Out of all the prompts that College Board could have picked for the third FRQ, why that one?
At least the MC wasn’t much of a problem. It didn’t feel very subjective and most of the answers could be determined by elimination.
If I made a mistake and didn’t number the third essay question, do you think they’ll still grade it? I did skip a page before each new question so there shouldn’t be a problem, correct?
I feel like my essays were weaker than normal even though I had to ask for extra paper from the proctor. I think after I heard that the better essays were usually at least 2.5-3 pages I took that too seriously lol
@baller55 The hypophora was the question about the poor. Hypophora is when the speaker/writer asks a question and follows it with an answer. Don’t worry, it’s not a common rhetorical device.
… Did everyone find the third prompt confusing? How odd, I found it fun and beyond easy… I mean, it was rather straightforward… They want you to talk about the value and function of ____ in a certain culture, so you could have talked about why they did it (I put down something like there was benefits and social image) and the value (why is it common in American culture, for example)… I’m getting worried… Did I misinterpret?
@dsi411 I wrote around 3-4 pages.
What did you guys put for the question about the “torrential” view. I put could not be put into words or something-- flat out guessed. Also for the question about what the passive voice did what did you put.
Et al means other people btw, that was in the answer I chose. I also put issues not volumes.
The 2nd essay was the worst…i had no idea what to write…mc was easy tho. I panicked on the last essay cuz my school was having severe thunderstorms and was under a tornado watch. I had no idea til the principal came over the intercom and announced it. Glad it wasn’t worse, other wise we would’ve had to take shelter and stop the test
PLEASE SOMEONE EASE MY MIND. If i forgot to label an essay, will it be graded
@Spurs2014 Do you mean “confident and resolute” and “celebratory”?
@dsi411 my essays were all 1 sheet of paper (front and back) so I guess relatively short as well. I am like you, short but sweet.
I put could not be put into words as well i remember it was choice A
i put something like “vast expanse” because it was comparing to the moon
@aplangq
crap… I didn’t really mention a culture or community specifically, but i did talk about how polite speech helps at school and at my work. I also used some political examples, but never mentioned a specific culture/community. Will I get severely deducted for this??
@aplangq I’m pretty sure that one was that it was overwhelming. At least that’s what me and my friends got.
Overall I thought the MC was the easiest part of the whole test. I was only unsure on about 5-6 questions which is pretty good.
FRQ was sorta rough.
Synthesis - I took a pretty unique approach to this. I said that cheating was inevitable and the honor code only makes students better at hiding their cheating. Simply punishing them doesn’t teach them to live “lives of integrity”. I said that the only way to actually prevent cheating is to create a ideological paradigm shift within the education system as a whole - programs that accentuate the value of learning rather than the value of doing well on a test.Thought it was interesting but it was kind of messy. Didn’t have a well developed counterargument, is it important?
Rhetorical Analysis - I thought mine was OK. I didn’t mention specific rhetorical devices and instead went chronologically throughout the excerpt mentioning the essence of Chavez’s argument and how it appeals to the reader. Supposedly this is the best way to get an 8+ according to my teacher ( who actually grades these ). I did some interesting things like how he utilized the spirit of MLK to embody the importance of the value of life and the values of the Chicano movement. MLK is physical proof of what happens when violence occurs ( his death ) and what happens when nonviolence is used ( his success with the Civil Rights Movement ).He utilized an appeal to traditional american values and the poor’s inherent fear of oppression. Thought it was interesting but it was kinda rushed and messy because of time restraints. Didn’t get to write a conclusion.
Argument - I only had 27 minutes to write this and the topic was weird AF lol. I just cooked up some BS about how the rhetoric of being “polite” ( went kinda off topic tbh ) is used as an ideological tool to create conformity within people. Accepted and conformist behaviors are thought of as “polite”, while nonconformist behaviors are thought of as “impolite”. Used flapper movement of the 20’s and how “politeness” was used as a patriarchal tool to suppress women to domestic lives. Honestly totally off-topic and generally stupid as hell but hopefully the grader will be nice because the topic as also vague as hell…
the psychology article was the hardest along with the science article and the snail one was easy the cowboy one too
Would rhetorical questioning have also worked for the question about the poor people? @pathospablo
i used the example about president obama and he has polite speech to persuade the nation and get his point across
@Spurs2014 I put something about it being barren because it was saying the thing was as desolate as the moon.
@RamenUniversity lmao i totally bs the expository essay it was worded really weird and kinda confusing
