***Official AP English Literature Discussion***

I currently have down pat:
Hamlet
The Merchant of Venice
As You Like It
Twelfth Night

What other books should I review?? If the question is applicable to any of those four plays, I am completely set, but I figure I should have some novels too? I’m thinking of reviewing:

The Lord of the Flies
The Great Gatsby
The Bluest Eye
A Room with a View

But I don’t want to review all of them since I still have to study for APUSH. Any suggestinos?

How much has the lit test changed over the years? Are the practice tests that Collegeboard gives us still good?

I assume so. My teacher said the best way to study was to look over the past exams, because this test will be the same thing

(btw adding to the list of books I could review: Lives of Girls and Women**)

I’m reviewing Invisible Man and Richard III, and maybe Huck Finn if I have time tonight. we read so many books in my class, so we have a pretty wide choice. Might even do Grapes of Wrath.
How many books a year do you read in your classes? we read about 14 this year, which is a lot.

I doubt the exam will have changed much. It wouldn’t be good for the Collegeboard if they posted old and incorrect material.
@Serenen, you should do which ever novels you feel most comfortable with.
If you feel comfortable with multiple novels, then you should do the least common ones. According to my teacher, the graders like reading different things.

I don’t care what the prompt is, but I’m writing about East of Eden. It’s pretty much my favorite book, and it can work for so many things. Tons of different characters, a myriad of symbols, biblical allusions, an important setting, etc. So, pretty much, the prompt is insignificant to me :)

And I absolutely HATE Invisible Man and Heart of Darkness. So, I think that makes me a terrible English Lit student.

I loved East of Eden. I would say love, but I don’t remember much about it now. Refresh my memory? I remember Timshel was the major theme, especially for Cal. Charles & Adam were brothers. Cathy was evil and slept with both Charles & Adam on the day she married Adam. So Cal is probably Charles’ kid and Aron is probably Adam’s kid. Lee defied a stereotype. Anything else important?

@Bookworm429 I hated Heart of Darkness as well. My whole class hated it.
I’ve never read East of Eden, did you read it in class?
And my class read like 5 novels. That seems really low compared to others. On the hand, we did extensive poetry analysis.

My class as read about 7-10 different books that might appear on the ap exam; however, I have only read a fraction of those books . . . second semester senior . . . enough said

I’m usually really good about reading what’s assigned, and I pretty much read like 2 pages of Heart of Darkness and then quit. That’s how much I hated it. And yep, we read East of Eden in class. I also felt like my class read really little. We read Scarlet Letter, East of Eden, As I Lay Dying, Heart of Darkness, 4 or so plays, and Invisible Man was summer reading.

And as my name suggests, I’m a total nerd when it comes to books, so I’ve read quite a few books on my own that I think will be helpful.

I feel pretty good about the essays but I’m not too confident about the multiple choice. Does anyone have any tips to help study or do during the test?

I’m banking on either Huck Finn, Hamlet, or Kite Runner to use for the prompt.

I’m really worried that the essay question will be something completely unrelated to the books/plays I have down well. Anyone else worried about this?

sparknotes video is saving me as of right now. I am watching, Heart of Darkness, Scarlett Letter, Hamlet, and The Crucible

I am also going to brush-up on Don Quixote, something I would actually enjoy writing about.
In regards to MC, you guys have any strategies? Some of the practice test answers seem rather subjective to me

Hey guys, any of you have practice MC exams. I really need to practice to get at least a 2 to get my money back. Please PM me if you do. I will do anything, trade for other exams or anything

I haven’t even read Heart of Darkness fails test

^ Don’t waste your life.

Ugh. I have a jumble of books in my head but I feel like I should pick about five and spend the night Sparknotes-ing the motifs and important quotes and stuff. Woooo.

I feel like the count of monte cristo and Frankenstein fit every single prompt they’ve given…

I’m putting everything on Catch-22
