***Official AP Environmental Science 2012-2013 Thread***

I’m not in APES this year, but I took it last year and I got a 5. I highly recommend the REA Crash Course. Teaches you exactly everything you need to know!

Yeah, I purchased Princeton Review, Smartypants, and REA Crash course.

I got a 97 on the Environmental essay test, but I didn’t do so well on the multiple choice…

Anyone else try one the stupid aventa course for this. I’m in it and for half the semester it wouldn’t even work. If anyone was thinking about taking it I would suggest not they grade super harsh and the assignments take forever. I’ll end up doing fine on the exam and struggle not to fail this course ):

@mdavidw-- I’m actually taking APES as a class, but I took an aventa class (Spanish 1) over the summer, and loathed it. The programs slowed down my computer and it just wasn’t a great experience.

Overall, my APES class is easy. I read the chapter we’re being tested on, and can get a b+/a- without doing anything else. However, I’ll be self studying for the actual exam, because we get nothing done in class–probably b/c the class is myself, three friends (sophomores), and about 20 seniors who have been accepted into college and have bad cases of senioritis.

I have 5 steps to a 5 for my main review book–as of now. I like how it outlines what to study, is concise, and has helpful diagrams. Do you suggest I supplement this with PR or Kaplan? Or another brand’s material? I’m not sure which cover the most, but I’d heard good things about 5, so I skimmed it and purchased it.

I’m trying to self-studie too, but I don’t know how we’ll it will complement my Ap chem self-study. ( our school doesn’t have ap chem they have college chem which Is a class where you get actual college credits from the local community college but a teacher at our school teaches it.) This and and Chem will be my first self studies so some tips would be appreciated.
Thx!

hey guys, I just received my PR fir this course, and I am planning on self studying, so ive got about a little less than 3 months. I am scared about the lab work and all the experiments mentioned. how do you self studiers prep for that, bec we are not taking the actual class to witness these! also, how well would I be qualified to take this. my background. any tips, and is the textbook absolutely necessary? what if I just use PR for these 3 months and then take the test.
: Bio honors : B/B
Chem CP : B/A

Physics CP: A+/…

The AP exams will be here before we know it and I am going to have to put in some major work to get a 5 on the exam. Our book is from 2001 and I really have not gotten anything out of the class. The last time our school offered APES was two years ago and everyone who took the exam got a 4. My grade in APES is considerably lower than my grade in AP Chem, so I’m wondering what I can do in hope of recieving a 5 on the AP exam.

Bump.
I’m going to the book store today, so I could get a review book.
Advice would be appriciated.

Is it too late to start self studying?

no, it’s not too late, but start now

I just took the 2008 released exam… I’m suddenly wondering if this exam is as easy as everyone says it is. I definitely need to brush up with PR (almost done with). I’m feeling at about a 4 right now, but a 5 is the goal.

Any FRQ predictions? Based on last year, IPM, nuclear power, and energy transfer in an ecosystem are definitely out.

If it’s wind/El Ni

My teacher said there isn’t going to be a question on hydraulic fracking, because they asked that last year. Also, when is the exam? My teacher said it’s on May 22, but the AP Exam booklet says May 6th.

@mashfeek
It’s may 6th. Yikes!

I’m basically self studying too. My teacher shows us documentaries literally every day. So I bought PR, crash course, and 5 steps to a 5 500 mc questions. I’m going to study the released exams and skim through the textbook. I honestly tried to keep up with the reading but it was all but impossible with other classes, clubs, and my sanity. I’m so nervous about this test. I need a good grade because I’m trying so hard to get into a fairly selective university. I only took this class to raise my total number of APs, which was so dumb now that I look back.

@tarheel97, is 5 steps to a 5 500 mc helpful? i have pr and the crash course already

@binatang
I haven’t read 5 Steps To a 5 500 MC Questions yet. I’ll tell you about it when I do though. I’m reading crash course right now and it’s really good. It’s concise and easy to understand and the author gives helpful tips about the AP exam. It’s helping me a lot because I know almost nothing about this class

@binatang–I haven’t read 5 steps: 500 MC, but I have been using the regular 5 steps and I love it. The text is to the point and has helpful examples and illustrations. The MC that are in my book are probably also in the 500 book, and for the record I haven’t found them to be hard or very comprehensive. My in-school tests have harder MC, and if you knew my teacher, you’d know that’s saying something. I’d work through that, but don’t rely on it to be too helpful. But hey, extra practice can’t hurt!

Probably a little late to be posting this, though I hope it is helpful.

How is everyone studying now that we’re days away? I’ll be copying over notes(still not done w/in-class) and making more detailed index cards than the basic ones for laws and such. For the index cards, do you think I should handwrite them(for memory retention) or make them on a program like StudyBlue/Quizlet(for ease of access and recovery)? Or both?

This is my first AP and I’m already feeling super stressed. Do any vets have advice on staying calm? :)

I’m self-studying for this class too and as I read the 500 MC book, I don’t find it really useful though. It does help you with stuff about the Earth as well as about resource utility. Otherwise, the other questions seem irrelevant, especially in the population section.
