***OFFICIAL*** AP Music Theory 2014-2015 Thread

Keep practicing your listening/singing. Just keep doing it until you pull of decent scores. You want to also know key music terms. Barron’s is a very helpful guide for you to study with.

@SATManiac98‌: How’d you do?

@Azismith Got a 5 overall. Aural Subscore 5, Nonaural Subscore 5.

Nice…same as me! I thought the sight-singing was almost too easy…and I didn’t like the baritone opera thingy. :stuck_out_tongue:

The good news is that if you can ace one portion of the test, you can afford to do a bit worse on the other portions. The theory parts weren’t exactly my forte, so I ended up with a 2 on the nonaural…but I got a 5 on the aural and that rebounded me to a solid 3, so I passed.

That’s one benefit of the test being split in half, I guess.

Welp xd Exam’s coming up in 2 days! How do you guys think you’ll do? :slight_smile: I got a 75% on the aural part of the released 1998 exam on the College Board website, which I’m surprised about because I haven’t studied cadences yet. I’m really going to need to cram this weekend :S

10 hours before the test and i can’t really sight sing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0jgrCKhxE1s maybe this will help.

That one MC excerpt… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTSA_sWGM44

@Matt846 LEL that 18th century operetta.

@Matt846 I still can’t find where that piece is from…
I thought some of those multiple-choice questions for the aural portion were absolutely ridiculous. Unless you have perfect pitch, I have no idea how some of those could have been answered.

@1golfer1 I just looked, I can’t find anything either…guess they wanted something so obscure no one had heard it before

@Matt846 I literally cannot find anything, not even the chamber ensemble work. I was most interested in finding that dance thing with the piano riff, but I never really came close to finding it.
I thought the aural multiple-choice was difficult, but the aural FRQs (especially sight-singing) were basically free points.

Aural was EASY for MC…non-aural MC was a little tricky…probably 69/75. HOLY CRAP THAT MELODIC DICTATION WAS RIDICULOUS (the 2nd one) but I should’ve seen it coming with the easy 1st one.

@aao1997 It’s interesting how my opinions about the test are exactly opposite yours. I was done with the second melodic dictation after the second listening (Form O). The instrument that was used is one of my favorites. The non-aural MC was very easy for me.
I thought the second harmonic dictation question was somewhat difficult. The mid-phrase section was a bit tricky.

Neither of the melodic dictations were bad imo. I feel like I have a decent chance at getting 100 on both. Those harmonic dictations though…ugh I’m awful at bass lines

None of the MC was awful except for a few odd questions. I had no f-ing clue what to do for Q7, I just used root position and first inversions of I, IV, and V+cadences

Crazy how it varies…harmonic dictation is a cinch for me while melodic is sometimes harder. I think I got 100 on written aural but it was a challenge. fair test overall

I thought the melodic dictations were pretty chill but i bombed the harmonics
Also, did anyone else think that lute piece was straight fire?

@Nutmmeg Straight fire lute…? I still remember the “arco lute” though.

I’m taking my school’s AP Music Theory class and it’s AP exam this [school] year and I’m super nervous! I don’t have much musical experience, but maybe if I work hard enough, I can get a four, or even a five!
