official AP Physics B 2011-2012 thread!

Does anyone have the cutoffs for scores in previous years? I need to know how many MC and FRQs I could have missed to get a 3.

^

Wooow that exam kicked my butt. Not so much the MC half, but the FRQ… WHOOOOO.

really? i thought FRQ was super easy…except for the last two. *** were those

wow that was a really easy exam. What a joke. Well, that’s 4 down, 2 to go.

Which exam form was the main one? The kid I talked to in my class had a different one than me. There is no way I’d be able to cope with not seeing the frqs in 2 days.

@honeywell:

sry >.< i’m not arion…but i think i can help you with that problem
(although by now its too late…T.T)

if there’s water at one end the column, its just like a pipe with one end closed…so, since its the same tuning fork being used, the frequency is constant and thus the wavelength for the two different lengths of the pipe must be the same…the next resonance occurs when 1/2 of a wavelength is added (cuz its a pipe with one end closed)…and thus the .5 m is equal to half a wavelength and so the wavelength is 1 m

since you have the speed…you get that the frequency is 340 hz XD

Chatroom to discuss test

does anyone have a compiled list of questions yet?

Frq was good but man I didn’t time mc very well tho, couldn’t even see the clock -_- But whateves, prob got that 5

Well, the FRQ wasn’t so bad, even though I did leave 2 to 3 parts blank.
50% on the MC is pretty much a given for me. Guessed on most of the questions, LOL.

Anyway, all I want is a 4.
I’m so glad it’s over.

hoping for a 5.
mc wasn’t as bad as it could’ve been, but the frqs were surprisingly easy.only things that gave me trouble was fluids and some atomic stuff.

The test was actually

20% Mechanics
60% Electricity & Magnetism
15% Fluids & Thermodynamics
2% Waves & Optics
3% Modern/Nuclear Physics

Hahaha. I wasn’t very accurate. But the amount of electricity and magnetism on that test was too dang high.

I think because they didn’t have an EM FRQ and there were 2 Mech FRQs that somehow balances out. Which is annoying because I always ace EM FRQs.

Wow, I’m so glad the multiple choice was easy except for around 3 questions I wasn’t completely familiar with( Yeah our class had to learn Modern Physics in 1 day on a 4 hour time span). Free Responses were not bad at all. I think I spent too much time working on showing all the details, even the obvious ones haha. It bothers me that we can get almost over half the points without even getting to the answer sometimes. I almost got myself confused on the momentum based FRQ though( friends thought it was super easy, but then I told them momentum was not conserved since gravity was an external force ). They had no idea what I was saying lol…

@fastneutrino

I did have an E + M frq, the one with the circuit, resistors, and power-- wasn’t bad at all though. And a lot of people are complaining about there being a lot more E + M than mechanics but honestly, I didn’t even really notice the difference… and for me the mechanics theoretical questions are harder and more thought requiring that any of the E + M problems 0.o

Noone in my class knew how to do the last FRQ on our test. It gave the momentum of a proton, said it approached a 235 uranium, then reversed its direction at some distance D. Solve for D.

U have it u = k

^yep what the person above said
energy conservation…they’re two positive charges so as the proton goes closer and closer, its potential energy increases as the nucleus is like hell no and tries to push it away
so all the kinetic energy becomes potential energy rite before it reverses and its v=0

): i’m upset at my dumb errors …and if i told you what they were you guys would probably laugh at me T.T that’s how dumb they were

There was one on the MC that I wasn’t sure about.
