official AP Physics B 2011-2012 thread!

Hey what equations and constants would you recommend to memorize for the MC? My teacher doesn’t teach us anything about actually taking the exam.

Barron’s is frustrating me right now. Do we have to know stuff about orbital/escape velocity and thermal conductivity? Because we weren’t taught it in class, but it’s in the Barron’s book.
Not to mention that it asked why a boat floats (due to Archimede’s Principle) and the answer explanation talked about fireplaces. I feel like I get so much more out of doing released free response questions.
@MatzeMatze: For constants, you don’t have to memorize any as you’ll have a constant sheet for the entire test. You’ll want to know as many equations as you can though, because you’ll need that for the multiple choice section (for the free responses you get an equation sheet as well).

thanks for providing the 2009 MC!

I just went spent the morning going through it … missed around 8-9 questions. A few I missed were just STUPID questions that I thought were poorly written :P

Shoot me any questions about the test and I’ll see if I can answer it.

@fast: yes on the thermal conductivity, just remember the formula. H = kAdT/L it’s mostly on MC.

yeah just remember things float b/c it’s less dense than water. period.

Just took a practice exam and I got a borderline 5. I still have a feeling I’m going to get a 1 on the real thing though. :(

Do you guys think that fluids is going to be on the FRQ?

@1eye651

Motion thru electric field for electron is parabolic, same with proton then?

Yes, just in the opposite direction (towards the negative plate).

it’s parabolic BECAUSE it’s like throwing a ball horizontally off a cliff and it accelerates downward/upward.

SO are people expecting this ap to be a bit easier than last year’s? cause last year’s was pretty hard if you look at their post-discussion thread…

I don’t know. The free response last year were very easy except for 2 and 5. I honestly hope its easier. The test difficulty usually balances out from the two parts. So who knows what to expect

holy crap thanks everyone for the thorough explanations! it makes much more sense now.

guys i have a question. i got 800 on sat physics… do i need physics b…?

It wont hurt, in fact i think it will boost your app. Im taking both

what if i get a 3 on ap physics and a 800?

That would be really strange considering there’s a huge overlap between the two tests.

i studied so much for sat… but i didnt have time for ap… the open ended are sooo hard…

Well, if you do extremely well on the multiple choice and not so hot on the free response, you will still get high 4 low 5. dont worry you will be fine. good luck all!

I took the 2009 MC and got -10. I then took the 2004 MC and got -25. The % of 5s on the 2009 was 14.9%, and on the 2004 was 11.4%. So was the 2004 test simply harder? Also, the % of 5s on the 2011 test was even higher than the 2009 test, which I thought was pretty easy.

2008 mc? that isnt released?

Ah sorry I meant 2009!

ah ok lol. but yeah, i think 2004 was harder.
