Official AP Physics C Thread 2012

Which part? Mechanics or electricity ?

I did Mechanics. Everything was doable, just not in that short time period. We can’t discuss each question, but I can say that the second one took up way more than 15 minutes to list out everything and draw/label

Let’s wait for 2 days and then we can discuss the questions. I am eager to know the answers for the free response questions. As for now, all I can say is that question number 2 takes too much time. It should be quite easy though, but I don’t have enough time to finish the 3rd one…

Idk I thought the 2nd question was the point saver, it was quick and to the point. The first and last however, were hell. I think this is the first time they’ve involved a DE this much in a problem, having it become the first part of the problem and a vital step to the other parts. I could set it up, but solving and using it, yea…

^ I’m with Arcane on this. I took the mechanics exam only. The last question especially was exactly the type of question I hoped NOT to see on this exam. On top of that I self studied because I couldn’t fit physics in my schedule this year. However, I think I totally owned the multiple choice. (not remarking on its difficulty, only on my own ability on it because if I said it was easy or hard I might be revealing too much :P).

I thought the third FRQ was the hardest. The second one’s descriptions were not difficult. It’s straight forward, no fluff needed. If you spend more than 15 minutes, you’re writing a paper, not an answer to a physics ap question.

Holy. S**t. AP Physics B exam sucked. I think I got 20 questions right in Multiple Choice out of 70, and 20 FR points. Anyone else?

I thought the FRQs were to the point of being unfair. I thought there was almost no way to answer all three in the 45 minute time period. I think there should be a big curve because of the difficulty of the FRQs (especially #3). I just don’t think you can display your physics knowledge on those type of questions in that amount of time.

FRQ #3 mech = death of my nerdiness…I completely blanked out…thankfully, E&M was pretty good

I was talking to some of my friends after the mechanics FRQs, and it turns out that a few of them had a different form than me. Did anyone else experience this with their friends? Do you think someone screwed up on a local level for our exam or did college board change things around this year?

I breezed through FRQs 1 & 2, got to FRQ 3 and shut down. I had absolutely no idea. With the time constraints, there was no way I could have figured it out. It was absolutely horrible. It was, in my opinion, almost cruel.

Honestly, Mech #2 is a given. If you don’t get that right, you didn’t take physics. The first one isn’t hard, they give you the equation on the test in the reference table…

it seems like everybody had a hard time doing mechanics FRQ…
if the average scores are low, will they set a lower boundary for a 5?
I heard that last year, 50%< was roughly a 5…will it be possibly lower this year…?

What do you guys predict the curve will be this year? 50=5? or could it possibly go even lower?

Multiple choice was a bit difficult for me since I was expecting something like the released MC (a bit more calculation intensive, less conceptual). Still, the MC went fairly well. FRQs on the other hand, were completely outrageous. Went into the test hoping we wouldn’t have a certain three topics (my least confident ones)… and then we proceeded to get all three. FR 1 was difficult but ultimately, I think doable (in 15 minutes, questionable). FR 2 was easy but time consuming. FR 3 was death.

maybe i’m weird, but I found number three the easiest by far(expecting at least a 13, if not a 14 or 15), number 1 was the second easiest(expecting an 8-10), and number 2 was by far the hardest(expecting a 2-3, depending on how many points the why energy decreased part was worth). MC was okay I got around 27/35

ilovediannaagron: I feel the same way. I didn’t find any of the three difficult, but didn’t like number 2 because the answers were a bit too open-ended for a physics test.

I agree that the mechanics questions weren’t that hard. And yeah, I didnt like the second because I felt like there were too many options and I didn’t know which one they were looking for.

Personally I had more trouble on the E&M but I’m not sure if that’s because I’m really sick and my ibuprofen wore off during it.

Wow. For FRQ1 I was able to complete everything but I’ll probably get some wrong. For FRQ2 I just did the first two parts. The openendness of the question made me feel intimidated. For the last question it didn’t seem possible to me.

I knew that I would be expecting a 3 before I walked in, that will be fine for me.
