Official AP US History Thread 2012

Sorry didn’t edit before I posted but Thanks

Little factual mistakes dont matter much… unless you over do it… and say lincoln was the civil rights leader from the 60’s and washignton was the 38th president…

They look at it holistically. Did you answer the question and how well? How strong is your argument or support for your thesis?

hey im having a dbq in class like next week.
my teacher said we needed an intro, a background paragraph, three reasons, and a conclusion. so 6 paragraphs instead of 5 like for the frq
its on reconstruction. advice?

Since I hope people would be more willing to share AP exams,

Here is every released APUSH MC Exam (I believe) I took the time to put together.

Yeah, small incorrect facts like that won’t result in point reductions. Speaking of which, last year on one of the FRQ’s for APUSH I couldn’t remember the name of “W.E.B. DuBois” so I put “W.E.D. Boise” lol

AdrLan, OH MY GOD THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THE LINK!!! I really appreciate it! I was looking for some good apush practice tests like crazy! so glad I joined CC :)

Amsco is like another textbook, and the new DH is much shorter. Idk if I’ll have time for both…I kinda need like all my time to study for ap spanish and other aps. Is anyone using amsco?

I was just wondering… what do you at least have to get in order to get a 5 on the APUSH exam? I use AP Pass (AP Calculator) and it tells me that if I get 5s for all my 3 essays and a 69% on the mc, I’d still get a 5… I’m pretty sure I can get better than a 55/80 on the mc but I’d still like to know roughly what I need to get a 5 (for both mc and essays)… Also, does anybody know if the ‘approximate AP grade’ the AP Pass calculator tells you is with a curve or not? Thanks  This is my first time taking AP exams and I’m so scared! really freaking out right now…:S i just can’t wait till june when they’re all over :)

Hmm the expectations go up in my opinion each year. I’m expecting like 60/80 on mc and 5-6 on each essay for a 5

Wait…does 60/80 mean 60 right and 20 wrong?

So you can get like 35 MC wrong out of 80 and write (5/9) essays and still get a 4? That’s crazy.

@AdrLan Thank you SO much for that… That seriously helps so much… Thanks!!! If I had any exams, I’d offer them to you, but the only one I have is the 1996, which you have already… Thanks again. (=

@yankeesfanatic yep 60/80 means 60 right and 20 wrong… the figures don’t seem too realistic to me either… that’s why i was wondering if anyone knew if the AP Calculator uses a curve or not; haha let’s just hope the ‘approximate grade’ it gives us is without the curve! :)

Where is everyone right now? My teacher just finished lecturing about the Great Depression and I have to outline chapters 35 and 36 in the American Pageant as spring break homework.

My class is on chapter 40 and our hw for spring break is to read 41 & 42… I’m on spring break right now and have started review… there’s so much to remember!

The figures on AP Calculator are accurate. The figures are also corroborated by Larry Krieger, author of several excellent APUSH study guides. If anyone is right, he is.

The key to getting a 5 on APUSH is 6-6-6-6: get 60% of the M/C right and write a “6” DBQ and two “6” essays.

@IceQube: Thanks for letting me know! Hey, I was wondering, for apush, do they determine the curve after grading everyone’s papers or do they already have a curve they use? Also, is the AP calculator approximate grade including a curve? Or is it just a raw score without any curve…? Let’s say I put some numbers in and it gives me a score that’s a close-to-being-a-five 4. If that’s including the curve, that would be the final final grade right? But if not, there’s still a chance of getting a 5…right? I’m so sorry I’m being all annoying with all these questions! It’s my first time taking AP exams and I’m so scared!!! :S

The AP calculator uses previous test curves. There is a chance that a borderline 4 calculated by AP calculator could end up being a 5 this year, or just a 4.

@IceQube: Thanks! I’m no longer confused :)

Any predictions for the APUSH DBQ prompt this year? I’ve heard the Progressive Era, but not sure i can believe my sources… also, is it possible to predict the FRQ questions?

^ no idea
