i got a 28 and i’m devastated

@beavercreekSKI , same thing happened with me on English! I got a 35 with two 18’s…maybe it was a bad curve? I’ll call the ACT’s tongiht

Nonexistant, can you tell me what kind of prep you did to go up 3 points.
DD just took it as a sophomore and scored:
E 34
M 27
R 34
S 30

Should she take it in June or wait until sometime next year when she is taking Algebra 2?

Happy with daughter’s scores

Feb. Eng-29 Math-28 Read-29 Sci.-26 Comp-28

April Eng-32 Math-33 Read-32 Sci.-32 Comp- 32

She has a 4.0 unranked GPA so we are hoping this is enough to get into
Univ. Of Georgia

Congrats Kimdawg- and daughter too! Sometimes I think I worry about this more than my kids-or at least they don’t show that they are worried.

Can you tell us how much she prepared from Feb to April? Do you think it is a good idea to retake right away? We are trying to decide if dd should take in June or wait until next spring.

most schools we’ve visited superscore SAT’s but not ACT’s

^^but it doesn’t hurt to ask…there is another thread on CC of schools that DO surperscore the ACT…

Mominwestlake… I think it was a good idea to go ahead and retest for my daughter. It gave her 2 months to prepare. I got the Princeton cracking the ACT. I read it first and highlighted the important stuff. She spent about 2 weeks reading the highlighted stuff and doing all of the mini reviews in the book. She spent the most time looking at any wrong answers and understanding why she missed them. Then she took those practice tests and the one online to work on timing issues. I dont think she will ever score a 36 like some of the people on here, but a 32 should get her in UGA… so I think we are done with the testing. Good Luck in your quest for the “perfect score” for your child and don’t worry what others get. I think it is great that some can get a 36 but for us the perfect score is a 32 and I would have been ok with a 30. My daughter is a junior and your daughter is just 10th grade, so you may want to wait and let her get another math class. She has the potential to raise her score several points by her junior year. She may get a 36 you never know.

This was my first time taking, as I’m a sophomore

Composite: 30
English: 32
Math: 25 (gross)
Reading: 34
Science: 28

Do you think it’s possible for me to get to a 33 if I study a lot?

Kimdawg, thanks for your insight. I am more than happy with my DD’s 31 but she’ll probably retake it since she is only a sophomore. We aren’t looking at Ivy League but do want to get as much merit aid for her as is possible. She takes the SAT on Saturday so we’ll see how she does on that.

My DS, who is a junior, scored a 28. He is actually taking a prep class that starts next week before taking the June 12th ACT. Yes, he probably could study on his own but I am not sure he would. He needs to score a 29 for some pharmacy programs.

It is interesting that DS, the junior, who is in honors precalc scored the same in math as DD who is only in honors geometry. They both scored a 27. Does anyone have any suggestions as to what they can do to improve their test scores- other than taking practice tests? DD scored much higher on the practice math tests than she did on the actual test.

Nikki, yes my daughter went from a 28 to a 32 in 2 months. See above post to look at what worked for us. I think you have potential to go even higher if you get another math class completed. Good Luck!

^^^^^
i hope my S can improve 4 points too. from 27 to 31

For what it’s worth, here’s what worked for my daughter.

When she took the PLAN test sophomore year, her ACT was predicted to be 26-30 (not feeling well that day, but still way lower than what she actually just achieved).

This winter/spring, she prepped 2 hours each Sat and Sun for 2 months before the test (about 30 hours total). Went through Princeton Review in its entirety.

She took two full practice exams during her preparation this winter/spring, and got 31 both times.

She took extra practice exams on her weaker subjects (math & science), and studied each wrong question/answer until she understood exactly why she got it wrong.

Just got her scores, and boy, did they jump!

English 36
Math 33
Reading 35
Science 32
Composite 34

momofsongbird…excellent!! Congrats to your daughter! (and you) :)

Composite: 34
English: 36
Math: 34 (both mistakes in elementary algebra… :()
Reading: 33
Science: 32

I think my brain started degenerating as the test progressed…
But I’m super excited.
Just gotta study for science next time.

And I feel dumb asking, but what exactly is a superscore? Your highest score for every section ever?

yeah, it is the highest score in each section. For example, if one time I get (all numbers are made up):

E: 29
R: 30
M: 31
S: 30
Composite: 30

and the next time I get

E: 31
R: 26
M: 33
S: 31
Composite: 30

My superscore would be:
E: 31
R: 30
M: 33
S: 31
SuperComposite: 31

E: 34
M: 34
R: 33
S: 33
Composite: 34

First time (and last time) taking. Very pleased.

Just so people know, the subscores (out of 18) do not add up to the real scores. A couple people here were asking if ACT made a mistake. No, they did not.

Anyway, my breakdown was…

English 35
Math 36
Reading 35
Science 36

but all of my subscores were 18, so I don’t believe they correlate directly.

Congrats to everyone with their scores :)

wow…how much did you study? I studied a lot and only got a composite of 31 this time (32 Superscore) :(

I felt like I was playing with house money b/c of my shocking SAT scores in March, so I took it and figured if I got a 32+, I’d send it. I got a 32 (34 M, 32 S, 31 R, 30 E).
