thanks for ■■■■■■■■?

I think that paranoidsenior is a legitimate admit, but is just ragging on this stats listing idea. hey, if he’s into Bard, isn’t that what alot of the students do – challenge the status quo and think creatively?

On a more serious note

Decision: ACCEPTED

Stats:
• SAT I (by section): M: 800 CR: 770 W: 730
• SAT IIs: Bio M: 690 Math IIC: 800
• ACT: NA
• APs: none
• IBs: NA
• GPA: about 3.5 unweighted
• Rank: Not ranked
• Other stats: None…?
Subjective:
• ECs listed on app: music, cultural, creative
• Job/Work Experience: volunteer only
• Essays (subject and responses): common app was about what he had planned to study and why (passionate, but not demonstrating his creative side only explaining it) and the essay for the Bard supplement was a graded paper.
• Teacher Recs: Probably good
• Counselor Rec: Probably good
• Applied on: Sometime in November (Early Action) and was deferred
• Hook (if any): Showed interest early, EA, many EC’s pursued sincerely and faithfully over many years and recognition for abilities, Arts supplement? does Bard look at those?
Location/Person:
• State or Country: Massachusetts

General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: wanted to do IDP but had rehearsals/performances both weekends, no interview (Communication break-down? Over-worked regional rep MIA? As far as I can tell it was not DS’s fault but when he was deferred I wondered if DS had dropped the ball, offending regional rep and that Bard thought he wasn’t interested),as a deferred student DS had to write statement on why he wanted to attend Bard. This seemed strange to me because there wasn’t a single speck of virtual ink on his application that didn’t scream out BARD!

not many postings on this thread yet. Guess Bard applicants are not much into the quantifiable trappings of academic status? Still would like to hear of more [especially] acceptances to Bard!

mommybird, my guess (I’m a parent of an accepted student) as to why your S was deferred may have been that Bard is trying to increase its non-arts oriented student body – not because it is limiting its offerings in that area, but because it wants to develop a more rounded student body and create a broader reputation. When we went to visit, the student information form asked what languages the student knows and what sports played. it did not ask any questions about the arts.

They probably wanted to see the whole pool of the arts-oriented kids before making decisions. Again, this is all just a guess on my part, but I would imagine that it is most competitive for the arts-oriented students and less so, perhaps, for the students whose focus is in other areas.

I don’t post stats, but I will say that my S had 750 - 800s on SAT I and II. Mixed transcript gradewise, but his whole application screamed out “passionate learner.” He got in IDP.

Decision: Accepted by Exception! (not that that’s really something to flaunt)

I’m excited past the point of intelligibility

To October 21: are you saying you were EXCEPTED? i AM AC-CITED FOR YOU! Write again when you are telligible. Seriously, I liked your post. Don’t know what you mean by “by exception”. Do you know anything about ultimate at Bard?
tO SdONCC: Thanks for the kind words. Your comments put his application in a new light. His demonstrated ability in the areas he said he planned to pursue were just about nil and he was lucky Bard gave him the benefit of the doubt. Glad I didn’t think that way while he was waiting. Also glad to be reminded of how Bard is growing: my son found and selected Bard to serve his current plan, but I wouldn’t mind at all if he found his interests shifting in the direction that Bard is moving!

mommybird: I believe it means they decided to admit me against their best judgement. just kidding (sort of). Essentially it means that my grades are not at all up to their standards, but the rest of my application was enough to get me in. Yay bard for realizing that i’m not a number! Although those other numbers that i’m not couldn’t have hurt. I know little about the ultimate team at bard except that my tour guide was the captain.

Decision: Accepted!!

ECs listed on app: SGA, paper recycling team, NHS, Mu Alpha Theta, Model Student Senate, “We The People” Gov competition, VP of Harry Potter Alliance, head of plastic bottle recycling, tutoring at rec center every week
Essays (subject and responses): One was about attending an Obama rally last year- how it inspired me…, the other was a graded paper on the erosion of civil liberties (talked mainly about gay marriage)
Teacher Recs: My AP Government teacher and AP Language, I think they were both really good!
Counselor Rec: Good

[]Advice? Commiserations? Feel like bragging?:[/ul] I am really happy with the acceptances but I am so confused between Sarah Lawrence, Smith, Scripps and Bard. Any advice for me? And to the ones who is still waiting for the letter, good luck! To the ones who are in, congratulations!

The ultimate team looks pretty legit

[Bard Frisbee](Bard Blogs)

@October 21

I don’t know what you mean by “grades are not at all up to their standards.” You’re pretty much on par with the student profile: [Student Profile | Bard](http://www.bard.edu/admission/life/profile.shtml)

I’M surprised I was accepted, based on academics. I scored 1820/2400 for SAT, and my GPA is 3.49 unweighted. I didn’t even break top 15% of my class. I got a 3 on the only AP exam I’ve taken. I was hoping and praying that everything else would be enough, I was afraid of not standing out. I think getting deferred EA was the best thing for me, because I was able to submit a supplementary letter explaining why I want to go to Bard.

unweighted GPA of 2.9 is a little underwhelming. It’s on a four point scale, not a 3.3 point (whoops). Had my school not stopped reporting rank two years ago, i believe i would have been in the bottom fifty. Bard’s ultimate team look… pretty serious actually!

I’m a little bit intimidated by all the acceptances…as someone who got waitlisted, I’m counting on a small accepted pool. Drat.
