Official Barnard Early Decision 2014

i’m most likely applying ed toooo

i have an interview there tomorrow which will probably make up my mind about the school once and for all. i visited in the summer and took a tour/info session but i want to see the campus in full swing before i’m 100% sure.

have yet to complete like two of the supplement questions, but deadline for ed apps is nov 15 so i’ll probably have the app done this week…

my other colleges i’d be applying to rd are tufts, vassar, northwestern, skidmore, nyu, uchicago…

let’s hope ed works out though!!

girls,
less than seven weeks until we receive our decisions… ahh

I submitted my ED app two days ago, and I am SO nervous. It’s my top school by a mile.

Also applying to Columbia, UChicago, Princeton, JHU, CMU, U-MN-TC, UNC, and NYU.

i submitted my app on the 31st.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

I keep going over the math in my head. Interview was so-so (maybe I shouldn’t have made it my first ever), wish I could have tweaked my common app a little, am satisfied with my supplements - UGH.

college1o1 – nope, all of my writing was way over 1000… word limits are always a struggle for me because i tend to always over-write. i dont think its too big of a deal though… as long as we’re not submitting pages and pages of stuff haha.
kiwi_nights – same here! barnard was my first interview ever and now im wishing i could go back and re-do the whole thing. first question she asked, i went totally blank… felt like such an idiot haha. but at least the worst is over. all we have to do is wait!

Sheva, haha, I would almost say the waiting is worse. ;-)

I’m going to be a big bundle of nerves for the next month + week.

my application is finally complete on my tracker. now all I have to do is wait. this is going to be difficult. :)

Nothing that my counselor sent by mail has been received; same with ACT scores. This makes me uber nervous!

What questions did they ask you on the interview?

All pieces of my application received. big sigh of relief

Interview questions - meh, nothing unique: strengths, weaknesses, subjects you like/dislike, what interesting/other things the school should know, etc. Don’t sweat it.

Only 31 days :)

Oh, and in terms of the supplement…
I asked an admissions officer how long the responses should be as she said they should be brief and concise (around 5 to 6 sentences!). The idea here was they want to see how capable you are of expressing your ideas, etc. in little space.

She also told me that if you think those few extra sentences will make all the difference, go ahead and write them! Admissions will read everything you give them (even 15 rec letters, though she strongly advices against it).

That being said, all of mine are over 1,000 characters, and I’ve shortened them to the point where if I cut out anything else, they lose effect.

Mine were approximately 1400 characters–and, my goodness, I KNOW that is long, but I chose to sacrifice being under 1000 characters for being very specific with my answers. This is particularly true for the “Why Barnard?” question–I listed the faculty members, the majors and classes, and the groups/organizations that first led me to love the school.

The same with my favorite book . . . I explained that my love for it is a dichotomy, as the first time I read it, I read it as just a reader, but by the second time I had decided I wanted to be a novelist and it was an entirely new experience for me. Hard to do that in less than 1000 characters (at least for me).

And, yes, only 31 days. Eek!

I forgot my introduction. Obviously, I applied to Barnard ED.

I’m also applying to Bryn Mawr, Wellesley, Columbia, UMichigan, Fordham (safety) UMaryland College Park (safety), and Ursinus (safety).

I’m trying to put together a panic list of non-safety schools I’ll apply to in December if ED doesn’t work out. Right now that includes Vassar, Bard, William and Mary, JHU (which I’m pretty confident I can get into), and some other LACs.

I was feeling okay but today I’m suddenly freaking out about my Barnard chances.

That happens to me everyday. I’ll wake up and think of college, go to school, and everything will be cool. Then, when I least expect it, BOOM: Something triggers panic.

Gah.

so, for some reason the application tracker it says they haven’t received my scores yet… weird because that’s the one thing that i am sure have been sent via collegeboard… should I call to clear things up? or wait until after thanksgiving? hopefully they’ll be in by tomorrow…

college101, when did you send your scores? If you sent November scores, I’d wait a while. If you sent them in October, you might want to call after the Thanksgiving break. I sent my first set of scores in June and they didn’t process them until July 7th, and they didn’t process my September ACT scores until 11/11 (granted I ordered them in October). So it takes some time.

chocolat3, i sent all of my scores except for one subject test in mid october. I sent the last subject test recently though, i took it in november.

good luck to you ladies
any intl students?
