I GOT INTO SMED!!! yay!

Congrats to all of you guys....TorCan I got similar links on my admissions decision toolbar. I suggest you call them on Monday to find out.

hey YPDCC, ya i called them today and surprisingly they were open (i called the support link) and ya they posted my acceptance letter to the SMED and CAS at Boston...so everything is fine now

I Got In Tooo Yay

I got in too..

I'll join the crowd...I got in also!

Congratulations to all in SMED program. Do SMED students tend to stay in any one particular dorm ? Are there are suggestions on dorms ?

i am interested in finding more about the program..
1) do we get AP credits?
2) the gpa requirement is 3.2; what about the MCAT requirement?
3) how hard is it to maintain the 3.2 gpa?
4) how many students are in the program and do they weed out anybody?
5) the dorm, as in the above post..

When I went to lunch with one of the students in the program she brought me back to her dorm and it seemed like all the SMED kids were right near her. I think she lived in a special "science" dorm or floor...but they all seemed soo happy and said it was the best choice

yea all the med kids lived near each other...basically all of them were spread out over 3 floors of the same dorm room

they seemed like a really tight knit group

are all the acceptees going to the open house april 20th?
i hope i see all of you there :D

1) I Think you can get AP credits for certain stuff like history/english (maybe calc.) Not sure how beneficial it is...because I think it might just fill up as extra credits in college.
2) The guy I went to lunch with said it's the nat'l avg...28.
3) Not sure how difficult it is. My guy said it's really nice having to know that you only need a B+ versus all your premed students need a little bit more.
4) Around 25 each year. It varies. They do review each student's progress after each semester. But almost everyone stays. They don't really weed out kids, the people who leave usually just decide medicine is not for them.
5) You have a choice to stay in that dorm area with a bunch of SMEDS or somewhere else!

Thank you! GujuGeek!

For the acceptees, do you guys have to take the MCAT to qualify for Boston Medical school, or is it automatic admission if a certain number of credits are fulfilled?

For those of u who got in ..how are u managing your finances..its approximately 47 K...did u guys get scholarships from BU , if so how much...I am asking all this cuz I am a Canadian citizen living in Toronto and I really have to make the right steps now...i am happy and i am also worried that i got into SMED...so please do respond to the question " How are you managing ur finances to BU "
TorCan
ps. also does the tuition increase once u get into med school?

i'm in too!

I thought there would be some sort of scholarship, but I guess my parents will just try to pay for it. It makes the decision harder though between this and your other top school considering they will still be about the same price... but one less year of tuition at bu!

hey guys!! i got in tooo:)

hey torcan
im not sure if they offer scholarships for this program; so far all of the acceptees i've spoken to haven't been granted any.
my parents will pay for it
you have to remember you're saving a year of tuition!!
good luck, i hope everything works out for you

I've gotten a few outside scholarships which should help. I thought I would've got a merit scholarship, but it looks like a lot of their "merit" scholarships consider need heavily. I wonder if we can still change our NMF first-choice to BU to get half-tuition?
