I'm not saying that those who were defered weren't qualified enough, but my acceptance letter from Georgetown says that "offers were only extended to those candidates whose extraordinary academic and personal accomplishments ensured that they would be admitted regardless of the strength of the applicant pool."

Essays: Fabulous. I was really down to earth and casual, since I figured I wouldn't get into G-town. One essay literally said I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life but thought going to college would be a good start. I think they liked that I wasn't super pretentious.
Teacher Rec: Very good, made me look awesome.
Counselor Rec: never saw but she LOVES me so I'm sure it was good
Interview: Very good, I just had fun with it. I think they liked me okay.

Other:
State: Kentucky
School: Private Catholic
ethnicity: white
gender: female
no legacy, connections, etc

Reflection:

Strenths: well-rounded-ness. Also the picture we had to send in.
Weaknesses: SAT IIs, grades are good but not mind-boggling.

I'm echoing what everyone else is saying and agreeing that they seemed to really want well-rounded people. I'm not stellar at any one thing but I have a lot of interests. I think I also came across like a normal kid- I'm sure too many people were like, "I cured cancer and I have a 6.9 GPA and also I spend 45 hours a week doing service." My interviewers seemed happy that I didn't take myself too seriously-Like I said, I never thought I would get in so I was really chill about the whole thing.

Comments:

I was so surprised I got in!!!!! I spent a long time convincing myself that I would not, so I was very happy to get an acceptance letter. My mom didn't believe me when I called her. She thought I misread the letter...

Congrats to everyone else! Hope to see you in August :)

Congrats on getting accepted at Georgetown! If you are a national AP Scholar, I assume you inadvertently omitted a bunch of "5's" on AP exam results in your post?

ginab591
I'm curious about Georgetown taking your "neighbors" and dissing kids at your school. Why? Moreover, why do you and other kids keep applying? I wish you good luck because I was am impressed with your story!
