SAT: Didn’t take

SAT IIs: Didn’t take

ACT: 25

GPA: 2.6

Rank: Bottom 50% (around 40th %ile) (HUGE upward grade trend. 3.7 junior year opposed to freshman year which was basically a huge sea of D’s)

Other stats: I went all out on AP’s; not one regular class in junior/senior year. Didn’t always get A’s in them though.

Subjective:

Essay: I think it was the best one I wrote. I ran it by two English teachers and my dad.

Hook (if any): Not really a hook, but dad went to MSU for grad school

Location/Person:

State or Country: MN

School Type: Large Public

Ethnicity: White

Gender: Male

Other Factors:

-3 sport athlete, student government, 2 jobs, involved in school music groups

-I had 3 recommendations, none of which I’ve gotten to read. Apparently they were good =)

General Comments: I really don’t know how this happened, but I’m keeping it in my prayers here and thanking god for giving me the opportunity to attend a school this well regarded, when I thought I’d be limited to many less-appealing options. Above all things, I think it was my essay and recommendation that got me in. After already facing rejection from almost every other school in the Big Ten (UIUC, UMN, UW, OSU, UIowa, Purdue), this was a huge relief.

SAT:490 reading, 590 math, 550 writing; 1630/2400; 1080/1600
GPA:3.39/4.0 (weighted
Rank: 37/123; ~30%
Other stats: 3 AP’s, okay but not excellent EC’s

Essays: wrote my essay about how my environment influenced me. I talked about my small, simple town and how I volunteered at a hospital last summer in the nearby city. My mom fully edited so I think it came out pretty good.
Teacher Recs: one from my AP caluculus teacher who seems to really like me, even though I’m awful at math
Counselor Rec: none

State or Country: Massachusetts
School Type: public
Ethnicity: white
Gender: Female

General Comments:I read an article about how major state school, particularly the big 10, are accepting more out-of-state applications. Out-of-staters pack significantly more for tuition than instate students. Also, it’s likely that the out-of-state students will live in the state where they graduated college and pay income taxes for that state. So, I’m sceptical that I got accepted simply b/c I’m an out-of-stater. I doubt I’ll end up going to MSU b/c of the price of tuition. Plus, my parents aren’t happy about paying for air-fare.

ACCEPTED!!!
i want to be a fashion design major
sat:1750
sat II: 650
ACT: n/a
GPA: 3.1
Other stats: i go to privite school know for its hard curriculum
Rank: my school is to small so do ranks

idk if im attending but im soooooo siked i got in :)

LRU- If you really want to attend MSU and can’t because of money reasons, PM me. I was in the same situation, except my parents definitely had the money to pay for OOS tuition, they just didn’t want me to leave but they used the money as an excuse. Heh. My parents told me that if I wanted to go to MSU, I would have to pay for college on my own. So, I looked into all of my options-scholarships, FA, and grants. Although I didn’t get any aid due to my parents income, I can definitely help you if you have any FA questions because I had to familiarize myself with the whole process before my parents gave in.

In your major, it’s pretty hard to get lost :).

General Comments: I tried to make my grades secondary. Im pretty sure I succeeded. Haha. Just did my auditions for NYU & Chapman U in Cali. Im torn between Prestige, Intimacy, & the College Life. aka The three schools I applied to.

Does anybody know how much the tuition is for fall 2010-2011?
Specifically, for international students.
I went to their website, and it only shows the tuition 2009-2010.
I even tried to call them several times, but everytime, they said
they don’t know exact amount tuition yet. They said the exact amount of
tuitiuon comes out near June.
I need to make decision between Penn State and Michigan State,
and Penn State tuition is way expensive.
If michigan is little cheaper, I’d definitely go there cuz it is same education level
as penn state.
It really doesn’t make sense when you think about it. If the exact tution bill comes out
near June, how can people make decisions according to their finances?
Help me guys!

My son has been at MSU for 3 years now and the estimates are really good so you can go by those. We are instate so I don’t know what international rates are but if they gave you a estimate for next year it would be really close to what you would need.
