I just got my letter from Pitt today, and unfortunately it was a rejection :frowning: But i did get an offer to attend the University of Pittsburgh Greensburg campus ( does anyone have any information about this campus)

But my main question was, I just took the SAT on the 22nd of January, and my test scores were the worst part of my application ( they were horrible and im sure it was a major part of my rejection) If my scores are a big improvement can i send them to the school and appeal the decision?

any information would be appreciated thanks!

Pitt-Greensburg is the closest Pitt regional college to the main campus in Oakland. It is about 30 miles away and probably about 45 mins depending on traffic. The degree is exactly the same diploma as one you would get at the main campus.

UPG also offers relocation programs with some of Pitt’s schools (Schools of Engineering, Health & Rehab Science, Pharm, and Social Work) located at the main campus, where you do one or two years at Greensburg and then finish at the main campus. You can find out more information about that at their website: [University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg](http://www.greensburg.pitt.edu/)

It has a 200+ acre campus close to the town of Greensburg, but is located on a former estate next to a nature trail and creek. A defining feature could be its its academic villages, set up with the residential college model. It obviously is not urban like the main campus though. Wikipedia has some pictures of its campus too: [University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg - Wikipedia](University of Pittsburgh at Greensburg - Wikipedia)

I believe as a student at the regionals, you can also get tickets to sports events at the main campus. UPG does sponsor Div III sports teams of its own as well.

Decision: Accepted to CAS
but… i actually applied to swanson school of eng in bioengineering and was told i have to reapply directly to that program later since i haven’t taken physics yet. even though i had an A- in AP Calc AB/BC. weird.

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 740 CR 760 M 730 E (1500/2230)
[] SAT IIs: didn’t send
[] ACT: 35 E 35 M 34 R 30 S 11 W
[] GPA: 3.9UW/4.4W

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: everyone who read it liked it
[] Teacher Recs: don’t think i sent any
[] Counselor Rec: great
[] Hook (if any): none. other schools seemed to look favorably on the fact that i am graduating a year early with 9 AP courses and good stats, but apparently not pitt.

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] School Type: competitive public; ranked third in state
[] Ethnicity: didn’t answer
[li] Gender: female
[/li]

[/ul]General Comments: didn’t get invited to the honors college. received the $12k scholarship and a chancellor’s invite, but that seems completely pointless since they didn’t like me enough to award the full tuition. really, really like pitt so i am pretty bummed right now. D:

ciaobella713, there is no way with those stats you wouldn’t be in the honors college as a first semester freshman, particularly since you got an invite to apply to the Chancellor’s Scholarship, which is a full-ride tuition + expenses. They may have messed up the honors college invite, but likely you’d be in it, and if that is a concern, I’d just call the honors college and ask. The tuition scholarship is often based on more than just pure stats, and things may differ for engineering as well. If you are in-state in Pennsylvania, they don’t award as much because they consider your tuition already discounted by the state, so part of it depends on your geographical residence. In any case, it seems like you still a shot at the chancellor’s full ride.

SAT: 1700 (CR: 540 M: 610 W: 550)
SATII: German - 750
ACT: 26
GPA: Weighted SCUGP: 3.999 (about a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale)

Senior Courses: Adv. Comp., AP Calc, Physics H, German IV H, Gov’t/Econ H

Subjective:

Essay: Okay; kind of BS. Talked about exchange year abroad in Germany.
Teacher Recs: 2 excellent; Waved rights, but they both just gave me copies to read and have.
Counselor Recs: Also excellent; waived right, but she gave me a copy too.
EC’s: Job after school, weekly volunteer with mentally handicapped, Serteen club, German club, German National Honors Society, County-wide Stammtisch (founder), Rec Baseball, Swiss Society of SC

Location/Personal:

State or Country: SC, US
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Caucasian
Gender: Male

Other Comments: Really glad I got in!!! Now I must choose between Pitt or my instate school (Univ of S. Carolina) :/

Decision: Accepted to College of Arts & Sciences

Stats:

SAT: 1980
SAT II: Lit 730
ACT: 29
GPA: 3.6 UW
Rank: 80/542

Subjective:

Essay: Received an e-mail from Pitt saying my essay resonated with them, I’m not really sure if that means anything, though. Could just be something they send to everyone.

Teacher Recs: One teacher’s was awesome, the other’s was probably pretty good.

Counselor Recs: Honestly, I have no clue. The counseling system in my school sucks; we basically have no contact with our counselors other than when we select our courses with them and need them to sign things.

Hook: No hook. I want to be a film major, though, and that’s been somewhat of a hook for me for some of the other schools I’ve applied to.

Location/Person:

State: PA
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: Female
Other Factors: Member of NHS and FHS

Other Comments: I was excited when I got accepted because it was my very first college acceptance out of the 11 schools I applied to, but to be perfectly honest I think out of those 11 schools, Pitt is my last choice. It’s not that I think the school isn’t good enough for me or anything like that, I just don’t see myself going to such a big state school. It’s not really my fit. Congrats to everyone else who got accepted, though!

Decision: Accepted to College of Arts and Sciences, Psychology

Stats:
SAT: CR 660 M 590
SAT IIs: didn’t send
GPA: 3.89 W
Rank: top 10%

Subjective:
Essays: Probably the strongest part of my application, wrote about overcoming illness and lessons learned from it.
Teacher Recs: didn’t see but both teachers knew me very well
Counselor Rec: i’d imagine very good

Location/Person:
State or Country: Massachusetts
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: White
Gender: F

Other Factors: Lots of ec’s and commitment to musical theater. 7 AP classes, all others were honors.
General Comments: Pitt was my top choice since I toured it in October and I’m pretty sure this is where I will be going. I was really nervous since my guidance didn’t send transcripts until the 11th and was surprised to hear back this quickly. Couldn’t be more excited!

Decision: (my son) Accepted to CAS, Film Studies, but would like to double major or major/minor with IST.
Stats:
SAT: 710 CR 610 M 620 E (1320/1940)
GPA: 3.98
Rank: 20/253
Subjective:
Teacher Recs: sent three that were pretty strong
Counselor Rec: Good though she used some really fancy words and got his middle name wrong!

Hook (if any): Eagle Scout, Dual enrolled with a local college for 2 classes each semester of his senior year, lots of community service.
Location/Person:
School Type: rural
Ethnicity: white

Congrats to your son! My s1 is going to be majoring in Film Studies, also.

My D2 accepted into CAS. Plans to double major in Math and French. Offered Full tuition Scholarship

Stats:
GPA UW 3.8
ACT: 34 (36 on the Science)
Rank: 12/437
EC: Track, cheerleader, intern for local Democratic office this past election cycle, NHS
Excellent recommendations although we received acceptance letter before teachers even sent the rec.

Hook: Cheerleader girl who is exceptionally good at math- took Calculus as a HS Freshman-

wow, congrats on the full-tuition scholarship, nocashfored. I was talking to one of the admissions people and she said that Pitt is very stingy on scholarships, so that is great that she did so well in high school that she got one. I think you have to be at least top 5% for them to even look at you. Good for her!

Thanks, Mdye718 and congrats to your s1 too. My son just recently accepted an offer to Temple over Pitt. He visited Temple twice and was impressed with their film production equipment and labs. He really liked Pitt’s campus, but he did not like how the film production facilities were off-campus at Pittsburgh Filmmakers.

Good luck to all!
Aprilj

Just thought I’d share that my D was waitlisted for Fall 2011, with a guarantee for admission for Spring 2012 if she is willing to put down a deposit now and doesn’t get in off the waitlist. She has several other acceptances and decided after visiting that Pittsburgh was too urban an environment for her so she had already decided she wouldn’t attend even if she was accepted, but I thought it was a nice way of handling the waitlist–kids for whom Pittsburgh is their first choice can still go if they are willing to wait a semester.

Extra Comments:
I waited forever to get my acceptance letter. Honestly, I didn’t think I would get in considering the many other students that got rejected at my school. I applied in October and had to send in mid-year grades and just got the letter today. So happy and relieved right now.

I was accepted last week into Arts and Sciences. I have not heard anything about scholarship money, and I read in a different thread that usually 2-3 weeks after. Does that sound right to people who have heard of scholarships? When did everyone find out?

Thanks!

I was told that the scholarship committee met until the end of February so the last ones should be in the mail by now. My S got his about three weeks ago.
