Official Class of 2020 Northeastern University Early Decion/Early Action Discussion

Im not trying to prove anything omg… we clearly have different opinions (also I’m in an NEU forum so…)

I have a question about NU in, specifcally the selection process. Is it based on inability to accomodate students in dorms based on number of accepted students? Or is it because students accepted to NU in have stats below Northeastern’s typical requirements but Northeastern still wants to accept them just not at first? I’m a little confused, I’ve heard of kids getting accepted for the fall semester with 3.2 GPAs and kids with 4.3+ GPAs and high SATs getting NU in. Granted, admission to any university is holistic and made on a case by case basis but it seems a bit unusual to me. Anybody know?

Then NU in students generally have lower stats than those who are admitted in the fall similar to Emory’s oxford college. Some have accused NU of doing this to increase their ranking b/c the students accepted for the spring semester (NUin) don’t count for USNews ranking.

@Bostonian378 it’s sort of both. It’s a way for NEU to a.) guarantee a way to fill beds that will open from transfers out/whatever in the spring, often by students who are full-pay if they can afford NUin; b.) accept students with low test scores so as to not mess with rankings info; c.), continue to spin this “global experience” theme.

SAT scores (CR & M) for NUIn enrollees are 50 points lower than for fall admits: about 1360 as opposed to 1416. Their scores are “relatively” low.

Northeastern no longer has direct freshman application for January.

@actssmart If it is really a matter of opinion as you say, then why are you even on NEU’s forum arguing so vehemently for Boston College? The bottom line is that these are two COMPLETELY different schools that will appeal to different tastes. For instance, I applied Early Action to NEU but did not even consider applying to BC due to Northeastern’s city campus and Co-op program.

As far as prestige is concerned, if you believe 20 spots or so on the US News ranking is a significant difference then you obviously have no idea what you’re talking about. What is the point of “prestige” in your mind? Job placement? I encourage you to look at the job placement statistics for both schools, and you’ll find almost identical rates of employment 6 months after graduation.

Look, dude, if you plan on making unsubstantiated derogatory claims about NEU, I would suggest doing it on BC’s forum. They’ll love you there.

Any chance ED comes out tomorrow or are we thinking Tuesday?

Here is a video report from an NUIn student in Canada:

There are similar videos on YouTube for the other NUIn locations.

@timpi21 No one knows for sure. All we can do is point out when the decisions came out last year. If Northeastern follows that precedent ED decisions will come out Tuesday 12/8 and EA decisions on Tuesday 12/15. If you call admissions, they will only tell you “by December 31st”.

@timpi21 Based on last year, I think it was a Tues right? But you never know… that’s what makes it so fun, or crazy, or both. We are awaiting EA, which I think is a week after ED. At least in the past…

Hello everyone! I applied EA to NEU. Does anyone know when and how (email, mail, etc…) do we get our decision letters? I am International, so if the decisions come by mail, it might take quite a long time for me to see their decision.
I heard that last year’s applicants received an answer by Dec 15! I hope we do too. Good luck to all!

@confusedsenior28 I think Northeastern sends you an email that “Something on your application has changed” and then you log into your online account and the decision is there. Just what I’ve heard from other people. I assume they will also send something in the mail afterwards.

Last year, I believe students were notified via email to check their admission status on the portal. I’m pretty sure it was all electronic. Good luck.

Last year ED decisions came out around 7 PM EST. There are relatively few ED applicants and all decisions were received within the hour. EA decisions came out starting at 3 PM EST in MA and radiating out across the country until about 9 PM EST. No decisions are released before 3 PM local time.

You will get an email saying directing you to the portal. The email itself does not contain the decision.

**Financial Aid! In past years if you are checking your decision on your smartphone you will need to scroll to see the link to your award. **

Again, this is all subject to change.

ED applicant from NY here, beyond nervous. Hoping for good news! Best of luck to everyone

Here’s the statistics for 2015 EA and ED statistics. There were 890 ED applications and a whopping 22,258 EA applications. Good luck to all of you. My son was in your place last year.

Just curious, where did you find those numbers

What percent of those ED applicants do you think will be admitted? I know it’s only their second year of ED, but if anyone has those stats or has a guess as to how many people will be accepted from that pool, I’d love to hear it.

My son is a Husky Ambassador and they were given those statistics about a week ago in an email.

@Amrfootball I don’t remember making derogatory comments of any kind… Also, I don’t use website rankings for prestige, I use literally everyone I’ve ever met and my own thoughts on the schools. I live in MA, and always have, and know for a fact that NEU is a great school, but when it comes to prestige, not the same as BC.

Is anyone else starting to freak out? Cus I am. This week is gonna be an interesting week for me…
