Official Class of 2020 Northeastern University Early Decion/Early Action Discussion

Hey everyone! So I contacted the admissions office because I submitted my CSS profile or whatever it is called a few days late, and was wondering if that would affect the possibility of receiving a merit scholarship (if I get accepted). I received an email back from the financial aid counselor… part of the email stated, “The only difference in handing in the CSS Profile after the December 1st priority deadline is that you may not receive your tentative financial aid award later this month with your acceptance letter and instead may have to wait until February when we start awarding possible incoming students again.” Did he basically reveal that I got accepted (even though the results are not officially out) or was he just generalizing the “with your acceptance letter”??? I’m dying to receive the notice as to whether I am accepted or not!

@CamB16 I had a similar situation happen when I called the financial aid office with a question. They referenced “my financial aid package” and said when I receive it, I can meet with them with any questions. Of course I read into it wondering if that meant I got in or not, but then thought they could have just been generalizing or replying with the standard answer. Best of luck!!!

@CamB16, He/she is supplying you with an answer that would apply to anyone who asked the same question even before applying.

I doubt the person on the phone would even have your application or acceptance information when you call. Don’t read too much into it.

When does EA come out this year?

Does anyone feel demonstrated interest is a factor? I never toured the school so I am a little worried. However, I did email my admissions rep once after I went to her presentation for Northeastern at my HS.
Do I have good chance for EA based on those already accepted/deferred’s stats for ED?

97.4 UW GPA
1430/1600 or 2200/2400 SAT
Strong common app essay, good balance of work/volunteer/leadership in my extracurriculars

@laughandlearn23 I talked to the rep from NU who came to my school, and she said that demonstrated interest is not important… and I think you are pretty strong applicant compared to the kids I know who go to NU.

I think we should start a results thread for pure stats (no discussion) so it’s easier for next years kids to look through. Anyone agree?

We think Tuesday based on what happened last year. Good luck!

@DonaEv For EA?

is anyone else tense as hell?

Looks like they are coming out on Tuesday! http://countdownmadness.com/2015/12/13/northeastern-university-ea-results-fall-class-of-2020/

@stamatious Source?

Countdown Madness is a site that’s apparently maintained by applicants, so I don’t believe they have any insider info. Has the uni announced a date?

Extremely anxious EA applicant here… From reading around college confidential I feel I have slim chances with a 30 act. I go to somewhat of a competetive high shool and my naviance that is based of admissions specifically from my school lists the avg. act as a 29. I though I had a pretty good chance up until now haha. Does where you go to highschool really make a difference? Or is the naviance info irrelevant because of how increasingly selective neu is becoming? Good luck to everyone I really hope these come out Tuesday!

I AM SO SCARED. Asian applicant from California here and NEU is my number one!!

@Collegeee2020 Every college is aware of how competitive/rigorous your high school is based on the Secondary School Report that your high school sends along with your transcript. For example, I go to a public exam school in the city of Boston and in our Secondary School Report it explains how the application process works for my school, how rigorous the school is, etc. It’s like a bio of how your school is. Colleges do not look at Naviance though that’s mainly just information for you. But yes, they will be aware of what your high school is like and if it’s competitive as you say then it should work in your favor :slight_smile: That might have also helped your GPA when they recalculated it!

Good luck!

Thanks for the advice. I think I’m just psyching myself out at this point. Holding on to hope bc a friend with almost identical stats to mine was accepted ED. I know ED gives you somewhat of an advantage but still. I also emailed my admissions conselor a lot to ask questions convey how interested I am in the school. I hope that made a difference because my school has a VERY low yield for students accepted. Can’t wait for the anxiousness to be over.

@kaatherinee same here!!! i’m going through pharmacy haha hopefully we both get in ):

do they look at 1600 scores or 2400 scores

2400
