Official Class of 2021 Northeastern University Early Decision/Early Action Discussion

IM DYING

@musiclover214 NSMF scholarships are no longer automatic $30k but are “up to $30k” . - see their website. And the website says that NSMF will replace other campus scholarships, in year’s past they do not stack. The University Honors Scholarship by title seems to be a new designation this year, but it likely would be replaced by NMSF scholarships, at least in part. https://www.northeastern.edu/admissions/cost/scholarships/ . Always best to talk to the FA office - they are always very helpful.

Can’t get in to see status of application - Minnesota resident.

AHHHHHHHHHHH I JUST WANT TO SEE

@Floridaball it depends on your situation- your comments are a little vague. My parents makes roughly ~150, and when I was admitted I had one sibling in private school. I received approx. $10k in grant aid on top of ~$24k in scholarships per year. (FAFSA EFC of roughly 22k at that point, which was essentially met).

What was your FAFSA/CSS profile EFC? Northeastern’s EFC is usually a bit higher than that, but in the ballpark. It may be that you don’t understand your family’s finances as well as you thought, or Northeastern may have messed up. I don’t think $36k/year is a bad deal knowing that’s almost half off sticker price, but I wouldn’t go into massive debt for undergrad if that’s what that means for you.

I understand wishing NU/private schools could give more, but remember they have a lot of students in need. It’s really not their goal to make it a sweet deal for everybody; they give just enough to make things within reach, expecting you are willing to help out in terms of working summer jobs to save money, taking out some loans, maybe living-off campus to save money, etc. They can enable a lot more students to attend this way instead of full rides to a few.

Thanks for the comment @novafan1225 . According to FAFSA, our EFC is about $17k. So what confuses me is on my Northeastern Financial Aid Disclosure statement, it says my “family contribution” is about $56k a year! That has to be a mistake! That is crazy. That is around 1/2 to 1/3 of my family income (I’m guessing).

@TomSrOfBoston @PengsPhils son in honors with 21k univ honors a year, thrilled but says our CSS missing so we don’t know what need aid he will get. We submitted CSS in October, looking at the Northeastern send on College Board right now. Will that jeopardize need aid? Thanks for any help.
