Official Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion Thread

Just want to say Good Luck everyone from a CMU parent.

Did anyones portal add ā€œparent irs tax return transcriptā€ recently? It says its missing but it wasnt there before when i checked my portal a couple weeks backā€¦ and its not there in my idoc so im really confused

Do you have to submit financial documents even if you arenā€™t applying for aid??

@taetae124 A tax return transcript is something your parents would have to get from the IRS. It is an offical record from the IRS that the return was filed and will show whether any changes were made to the tax rturn after it was originally filed (e.g due to a corrected return being filed later). As I understand it, schools are required to randomly select some number of financial aid applicants to confirm income beyond submission of a tax return copy, and requesting the IRS transcript is how they do it. If you were so selected for this type of review, you should have received notificationā€¦mail or emailā€¦from the school. If you did and you missed it, it probably wont affect anything as it should be soemthing you can take care of if you find out tomorrow that you got in.

In reference to my earlier post, my portal is working now and instead of ā€œfinancial aid notificationā€ it says ā€œadmission and financial aid notificationā€ (but obviously no actual admission notification comes up when I press on the link). I also had another program added to my list of applied schools (previously it was just the CFA and DC but now thereā€™s a BHA one)

@IAmTheGreatest they said they send stuff in the mail didnā€™t they?

@parkinglots Iā€™ve had CIT as a third school show up in my portal since I applied, but never applied to CIT. I donā€™t think it means anything

FAT letter arrived for my son today. We are in Pittsburgh region. He was admitted to Dietrich College for behavioral economics. Heā€™s super excited. Some of you may receive your letters today! Good luck.

@lalu2018 Can you share your sonā€™s stats please? And congrats on your acceptance!! applied for econ myself.

@psycholing Thank you for your nice words. You have already gone through the stress that we are going through right now. How was yuor feeling when your child got in?

@lalu2018 Congratulations to your son! is CMU your sonā€™s first choice?

I think it is probably his well-roundedness, selected college, and writing ability that helped him stand out.

This was the last decision he was waiting for - what a relief to be have all information so he can start weighing his options. Thanks to all who post here. It helped a lot to read your comments and information. Wishing you all the best with your/your childrenā€™s futures.

@lalu2018 Can you describe what was in the envelope?

i also got an accepted letter. itā€™s a fairly thick packet, spiral bounded, shaped more like a notebook with brochures and many inserts, rather than a single letter. however i live close enough to CMU that it probably would have gone through local mail and arrived earlier than expected soā€¦

stats: 36, 1600, 800 for bio/math2. lots of ecā€™s in writing and science, 15 apā€™s, school doesnā€™t rank, i think hopefully solid recs. was invited to the science and humanities scholar programs as well as the quantitative social science scholars program; presumably due to the interests i wrote about in my app essays.

i am so thankful. i have some decisions to make now; no mention of academic/merit scholarships in letter and FA has not yet been updated in portal.

this is pretty much my last decision (waiting on stanford but itā€™s obviously no haha) thanks to everyone who posted here and allowed me to keep up with things. wish everyone luck- we will all end up in an amazing college and do great things. this is only one small part of our careers henceforth and no matter what happens donā€™t forget your passion and what makes you, you, despite the results of this whirlwind of an application season

where are you from? @collage99

@lalu2018 Congrats to your son! I applied for a similar major - Econ and Stats - and have similar stats. Hoping for the best!

@glguys suburbs. about an hour away from campus

@Heisenberg1700
8/300 rank when I applied, dropped to 10/300 after mid year
1520 SAT, 800 math II, 740 US History
Solid ECs and leadership in basketball, business, and service but nothing super focused which is probably why I havenā€™t been getting in

I think admissions was trying to send the letters to coincide with tomorrowā€™s admissions decisions, but obviously people in Pittsburgh would find out earlier. Congrats to @collage99 , @lalu2018 !

I do recall from the email they sent from earlier this week that FA would be available starting April 2.

Can anyone see the letter on USPS Informed Delivery?
