Official Class of 2022 Applicants Discussion Thread

@purifiedwater510 can’t hurt. i would like to submit a LOCI as well.

USPS informed delivery says I’m getting financial aid info in thr mail, I was waitlisted and already had my fin aid estimate in both portal and snail mail several weeks back. Anyone else?

If you are contemplating financial aid in order to attend CMU:

Wow. How can anyone truly project the four year costs of attending CMU and whether financial aid will be indexed to tuition.

I was put on the priority waitlist for technical theater with a significant scholarship, does that mean I do not have a good chance of coming off the list?

@Ashley102399 No. everyone on the waitlist was offered priority status.

“We will also contact you again between now and May 4 to re-confirm your interest in remaining on the Priority Waiting List, so please watch for further email communication from us.”

Has anyone been contacted yet?

no, im guessing they wouldn’t until after national deposit day anyway.

Here’s an article from The Wall Street Journal with an interesting passage: https://www.wsj.com/articles/college-wait-lists-are-ballooning-as-schools-struggle-to-predict-enrollment-1524821401

Interesting. Thanks for the posting. Looking back at the past years’ common data sets, the yield rate is trending up nicely. Last year showed a sudden jump there which caused more students enrolled (1676) than the 1550 ideal class size. So that explains the 500 fewer admissions offered this year. If we use the trend-line yield rate, we might think there are dozens, if not 100+ spots to be filled. Good luck to those waiting to be called off the WL.

I called the admissions office and the lady said we would hear back on May 2nd

@davy901 Please clarify. Is it a decision or will they be asking us to send them something?

@davy901 @MrElonMusk That would be good to know. Sigh. Why did I go comp sci?

@MrElonMusk @IAmTheGreatest Idk, the person I spoke with was extremely vague, but IIRC she did say something about us finding out about decisions on May 2nd. When the admissions office replied to my LOCI, they said we’d get an email with “additional information for waitlisted applicants” on the 2nd as well.

We went to the information session last week. The Admissions staffer said they will determine if they are going to any of their waitlists on May 1 and then send an essay prompt to the applicants on the relevant waitlists. They will only send the request to write the essay to students applying to programs that have spots available. The essay will be short.

I hope this helps.

@davy901 In regards to getting decisions, I don’t think so. From CMU website: https://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/the-waiting-list-important-dates

I just received an email informing me that Tepper, Information Systems, and School of Drama Design have enough students.

i just got an email asking for a WL response.

If you’re on priority waitlist and had already sent a letter of interest do you still send the WL response?? It kind of seems impossible to me that they are going to read it in one day and then decide who gets in, I mean I assume there are at least hundreds who put themselves on priority WL…?

My son also received the email asking for the PWL essay. Never ending saga.
