Clearly that’s URM…khigh

columbia is not need blind for international students: [International Admissions | Columbia University Office of Undergraduate Admissions](http://www.studentaffairs.columbia.edu/admissions/international/admissions.php)

this means that FA does matter for int’l students. it often only takes students early FA if they are truly impressive. because their int’l FA budget is limited, they will often defer even very very strong students to make sure that they aren’t admitting students who need int’l FA and then not having money to admit more impressive candidates later on.

for all students - need blind is real. i know it is real. it means that admissions officers aren’t even allowed to question what students put down. if you are international and say you don’t want FA you will be treated like any student. if you are domestic and put down you want FA, you will be admitted regardless of your need.

Is it me or has SAT score almost been inversely related to acceptance or rejection so far…a kid from my school with a 2390 got rejected and a kid with a 2200 got accepted…both whites.

@Silence - clearly… like don’t get me wrong, i’m happy for them, but also insanely jealous

Yeah, it’s really weird. I guess this shows that SAT scores really don’t matter that much, but most of the people with amazing SAT scores here also seem to have great EC’s. I want this to be a mistake so badly, but of course they wouldn’t make such a grave mistake. (I was rejected with a 2260)

Congratulations to everyone accepted though. :)

I am a URM, but I had amazing EC’s. I thought I’d be rejected with those scores.

heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp
Whats the url to the decisions website?

Rejected

SAT: 2110

800 Chem 790 Math… 720 US

EC’s decent

Hooks: did research

Essay: pretty good

GPA 4.1

Class Rank: 1/300

i’m so bummed :/

I’m a legacy and they apparently didn’t like me. I had the option of not signing up for financial aid, but I doubt that would have pushed me into accepted. I would have paid full price to attend Columbia.

@good4college… i had some damn good EC’s too, i’ve been working on community service projects in Romania for the past 5 summers. I’ve taken leadership roles in student clubs, i’ve participated in sports, captain of Cross Country team, i dont know what more i could have done in terms of EC

I was the 1st black captain of the tennis team in the history of my school. also, first freshman captain of any varsity sport in the history of my school. that helped a lot.

Dubfault you are compketely and utterly wrong. I’m an athlete, minority, and a legacy. I got rejected, will post stats later. I’m currently in something like a state of shock.

[ b]General Comments:[ /b] i was really bummed out about the rejection. ive been reading past results for the past few days and i have to say that i saw it coming. however, i worked so hard on my supplement. i visited/interviewed/did everything in my power to show interest. but, Columbia’s an ivy league school with a lot of highly qualified applicants. the adcom sees what they want in their future classes, and they clearly didnt see it in me. so many more apps to do!

To emerald:

Yeah a lot of people on here did deserve to get into Columbia. But then again it appears like no one really deserves to get into any colleges. Its up the college I guess but I still don’t know how the whole application review process goes so I guess thats what frustrates me the most

not taking the SAT didn’t hurt you collegegr. columbia is very understanding of folks in the midwest, and the person who read your application reads all the applications from chicagoland, she would’ve seen tons of kids only taking the ACT.

Okay, I’ve calmed down a bit. Sobbed for thirty minutes straight

Teacher Recs: Great?
Counselor Rec: I think she really likes me
Hook (if any): Single parent family, low income, female in engineering? Don’t think these are hooks, more like tipping factors.

Location/Person:
State or Country: NC
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
Other Factors: I really don’t know. It’s insane how this happened. My subject scores were awful, and I didn’t have that many math/science related activities, let alone awards or anything!

General Comments: The music started playing, and I couldn’t believe it. This is so SURREAL. Congrats to the others who’ve been accepted and good luck to deferred/RDers!

dubfault - if you want to know more incite into the process, feel free to ask me, i’ve stated it very clear here throughout.

it is a lot more nuanced than you think.

what did the accepted/deferred/rejected emails start with?
