OFFICIAL CORNELL REGULAR DECISION 2016 Results thread!

“People have started hearing? Sorry if I’m late to the conversation, but I had though cornell didn’t notify until April!”

-Worthy URM’s and female engineers are often admitted early to sway them to increase diversity.

Saving this spot for 3/29

So, does anyone know the answer to this: If someone is a female engineering candidate and they did NOT get this likely letter/invite, are they as good as rejected?

No. Many do not get the email and still get in, like a likely letter scenario

Sorry for the double post, but here are my stats, as promised.

[/ul]**General Comments: **
It was a fun (kidding) journey. Everyone here is excellent and should not let what school they didn’t get into get them down. We’re all amazing and will bloom where we are planted. I am honored to be among you all.

can everyone who was accepted do me a favor? look under you financial aid to-do list in the portal and tell me if anything is there. there’s been threads about this in the past, but i wanted to verify if there is any correlation between having forms there already and being accepted. also, let me know if you saw those forms there before you found out your acceptance. i unfortunately have no forms:/…probably a bad sign. congrats by the way!

I was accepted last week and my fin aid to-do list says the following: " No current to do item information found." It’s been like this for me since like two weeks ago because I hadn’t turned in my non-filing statement and then I did and checked. I don’t think there’s a correlation.

Decision: Accepted (Engineering - Computer Science)

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2110 (720 M, 700 CR, and 690 W)
[] ACT: 32
[] SAT II: Math II - 800, Chemistry - 740

[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A

[li] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): QuestBridge Finalist (if that counts?)[/li][/ul]

Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Asian Cultures Club (Officer), Computer Science Club (Founder & President), and Random Acts of Kindness Club (Officer)
[] Job/Work Experience: 9/10th grade, parents owned a restaurant, so I spent most of my time helping out
[] Volunteer/Community service: Student Ambassador (over 150 hours), Misc volunteering like tutoring, food drives, etc (over 150 hours too)
[] Summer Activities: 11th: Summer Academy of Math and Science at CMU
[] Essays: I think my main common app essay was great because I wrote about something unique to me. My Why Cornell essay was pretty good too because I actually enjoyed learning about it through the website, videos, and talking to alums.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Humanities one should be pretty good. Compsci one is probably AMAZING since he’s my academic advisor in addition to compsci teacher. I spend a lot of time talking to him outside of class and started the compsci club to get more people interested.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably really good too! I’m lucky to know my counselor well! I talk to her at least once a month.
[] Additional Rec: Nope
[li] Interview: Ahhh, I loved my interview! Though it was just a phone interview, it went REALLY well. I got to talk a lot about why I love Compsci so much, and my interviewer sort of hinted that Cornell was interested in me…so the likely wasn’t too big of a surprise, but still very appreciated.
[/li]

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] State (if domestic applicant): North Carolina
[] School Type: Public-boarding, selective (from congressional districts)
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: Female
[]Income Bracket: ~20,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I guess URM in Engineering & First Gen
[/ul]
Reflection

[ul][] Strengths: I felt like most of my application was pretty solid. Though I wasn’t that involved in 9/10th grade, I took extra online courses and had to help out with my parents’ business. In 11/12th grade, I did a lot more with my time and accomplished/learned SO much. I’m glad Cornell saw that, and I’m also glad Cornell didn’t hate me for attaching an extended resume where I included extra paragraphs to all of my extracurricular activities. (I felt like they are a really big part of me, so out of impulse, I decided to do that.)
[] Weaknesses: Numbers. My SAT score isn’t that high, and it took me a while to get it there. I didn’t take that many AP tests either.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Because I have decent numbers, but much more to offer as a person. (And because I’m a girl who’s super passionate about Compsci.)
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: RIT (A), RPI (A), Georgia Tech (A), MIT (R)
[/ul]
General Comments: I mainly want to say that hard work pays off. Back in Sophomore year, my SAT score was a 1790. I went to a public score where that was considered great. In junior year, I realized that bringing it up to a 1940 wasn’t good enough for most top-tier colleges. I also went to the current public boarding school now where most Asians were really smart coming from Magnet schools already. I bombed the placement tests and found myself in Honors Precal, Honors Chem, and Honors Physics, whereas I could have taken AP’s back home. I found something else though. I found extracurricular’s and computer science, and I found something that I can be proud of and share that with colleges. So, if you still have time, take my advice and go find something that you can define yourself with and be proud of it. Screw SAT scores and self-doubt.

[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: guaranteed acceptance to CAS. was sent an invitation to Diversity Weekend 3 days ago, and I didn’t believe it when it said " you will be admitted to Cornell University’s Class of 2016." Had to call the admissions office to confirm. LOL

Hi Foreverarianaa, I was just wondering when you got your notification about Reed acceptance. I’m kinda nervous because I thought decisions were going to be emailed around April 1. Do you know if Reed has started sending out decision letters for the class of 2016 already?

Teacher Recommendation: both strong and very good
Counselor Rec: good as well. he’s known my family and me for several years
Additional Rec: n/a
Interview: I didn’t really have an interview with Cornell. It was more of just him telling me about the school and answering some of my questions. He even said himself that it’s not really an interview and it was pretty quick. He was also an alumn from my HS…

Accepted- Cal Poly Pomona
Waitlisted-
Rejected- Cal Poly SLO, Caltech

General Comments: I’m honestly surprised. I found out I was rejected from SLO and caltech on the same night and was pretty down in the dumps… then a week later I get into Cornell through the URM email! So don’t lose hope people! I think essays play a major role in their decision and it’s not all about grades or test scores. Good luck to everyone else!

Wait… I thought they start posting results on March 29… How’d you guys got your decisions?

So if I haven’t gotten any notification now… does that mean I got rejected?

That’s what I’m wondering, too…

@eng7809 @kylearobb they just sent out acceptance notifications for URMs and female engineers. all decisions are released on march 29th at 5pm!

They were likely letters. Don’t worry, many people still get accepted but never get a LL.

Thelad,
I didn’t officially get accepted yet, but I got called for a diversity weekend similar to Cornell’s. Don’t worry, acceptances don’t come out for a while.

@Drummerdawg

Are you guys sure about this? I keep hearing that likely letters only get sent out to female engineers and URMs, but I received a likely and am Chinese, female but not an engineer (CAS - Biology). I got a Dean Tanner scholarship or something, and am kind of confused. Is this significant or just a gimmick or something to “impress” students? I heard on one board that everyone gets one of these and that it really means nothing.
