[] Job/Work Experience: 9/10th grade, parents owned a restaurant, so I spent most of my time helping out

[] Summer Activities: 11th: Summer Academy of Math and Science at CMU
[] Essays: I think my main common app essay was great because I wrote about something unique to me. My Why Cornell essay was pretty good too because I actually enjoyed learning about it through the website, videos, and talking to alums.
[] Teacher Recommendation: Humanities one should be pretty good. Compsci one is probably AMAZING since he’s my academic advisor in addition to compsci teacher. I spend a lot of time talking to him outside of class and started the compsci club to get more people interested.
[] Counselor Rec: Probably really good too! I’m lucky to know my counselor well! I talk to her at least once a month.
[] Additional Rec: Nope
[li] Interview: Ahhh, I loved my interview! Though it was just a phone interview, it went REALLY well. I got to talk a lot about why I love Compsci so much, and my interviewer sort of hinted that Cornell was interested in me…so the likely wasn’t too big of a surprise, but still very appreciated.
[/li]

Reflection
[ul][] Strengths: I felt like most of my application was pretty solid. Though I wasn’t that involved in 9/10th grade, I took extra online courses and had to help out with my parents’ business. In 11/12th grade, I did a lot more with my time and accomplished/learned SO much. I’m glad Cornell saw that, and I’m also glad Cornell didn’t hate me for attaching an extended resume where I included extra paragraphs to all of my extracurricular activities. (I felt like they are a really big part of me, so out of impulse, I decided to do that.)
[] Weaknesses: Numbers. My SAT score isn’t that high, and it took me a while to get it there. I didn’t take that many AP tests either.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Because I have decent numbers, but much more to offer as a person. (And because I’m a girl who’s super passionate about Compsci.)
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: RIT (A), RPI (A), Georgia Tech (A), MIT (R)
[/ul]
General Comments: I mainly want to say that hard work pays off. Back in Sophomore year, my SAT score was a 1790. I went to a public score where that was considered great. In junior year, I realized that bringing it up to a 1940 wasn’t good enough for most top-tier colleges. I also went to the current public boarding school now where most Asians were really smart coming from Magnet schools already. I bombed the placement tests and found myself in Honors Precal, Honors Chem, and Honors Physics, whereas I could have taken AP’s back home. I found something else though. I found extracurricular’s and computer science, and I found something that I can be proud of and share that with colleges. So, if you still have time, take my advice and go find something that you can define yourself with and be proud of it. Screw SAT scores and self-doubt.
