[ b]General Comments:
I am the luckiest man ever, God has truly blessed me and it still hasn’t really hit me that I will be attending Cornell :D

@kiwiksomething I got an email 3 days ago inviting me to diversity weekend because I have been accepted. I didn’t believe the email, so I called the admissions office to confirm. But they said I will be getting the official acceptance letter when all applicants gets notified.

Congrats! I’m going to diversity hosting too. I’m from San Diego, California!

@lolToasty
Nope not a likely letter. A likely letter says you will likely be accepted. These said you WILL be accepted. Subtle but very, very different.

@LovelyVivian, cool! I’m from San Jose, CA! Maybe I’ll see you there  and @wannabe252, yeah it’s really hard to see the difference at first, but it’s very subtle.

[ *] Summer Activities: Volunteering, research assistant for a history professor
[ *] Essays:
EC essay – About my involvement with MUN and how NHSMUN was one of the best experiences of my life
Common App- Pretty much about how I love the competitive yet friendly atmosphere among the AP students at my high school, along with my decision to break from the pack and do history research over the summer before 12th grade instead of science research like almost every high-achieving student in my school has done for years (high school consistently has one of the highest number of Intel semifinalists in the country). Also, filled it with water puns to go with the “big fish in a large pond”/breaking from the academic current themes
Why ILR- Just discussed why I feel like ILR is perfect for my interests and goals
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: My APUSH/AP Gov teacher and MUN advisor who I have a great relationship with, and my AP Lang teacher who is one of the nicest people I know. Never got to read them, but they’re both probably really good.
[ *] Counselor Rec: Probably great, I see her a lot and we have a great relationship
[ *] Additional Rec: History professor I did research for, didn’t read it but probably good.
[ *] Interview: Great, the interviewer graduated last year, and we had a lot to talk about. He told me flat out at the end of the interview that I’m a great fit for ILR and Cornell in general, and that he hopes I get accepted.

[ *] Strengths: Stats, recs
[ *] Weaknesses: No hooks
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Good stats, ECs really lend themselves to ILR
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected:
Accepted: Cornell, WashU, University of Rochester, SUNY Binghamton
Rejected: None yet
Still waiting on Brown (deferred), UChicago (deferred), Yale, Penn, Harvard, Dartmouth, Duke, Nothwestern, Tufts, Georgetown

[ b]General Comments:**
So happy I was one of the lucky few to hear back early, it took an immense amount of pressure off. Cornell is one of my favorite schools and the lower tuition for NY residents in ILR is extremely helpful. For those accepted, can’t wait to meet you guys at Cornell Days! For those still waiting, good luck and take solace that the wait’s almost over.

Cornell’s Tanner Deans Scholarship: No, it is not a gimmick, it is a very positive award. My daughter received that also. She was in CAS and graduated in '08. The Dean Tanners is awarded to a small group of accepted students in the College of Arts and Sciences. Info from the Cornell Website:

The Pauline and Irving Tanner
Dean’s Scholars

"Each year the college’s undergraduate admissions committees name a small group of outstanding applicants as The Pauline and Irving Tanner Dean’s Scholars. These scholars are chosen from applicants with demonstrated commitment and enthusiasm for the life of the mind and with outstanding high school records. The program is designed to honor students for their attributes and accomplishments and to attract them to the college. It is also designed to support and guide some of our most promising students in their acculturation to the academic and intellectual life of the college.

The Honor Confers Several Benefits

During the first two years, or until admitted to the major, each Dean’s Scholar is advised by a college dean or a senior faculty member. Matriculating scholars receive a $300 book award each term during the freshman year. Later, scholars may apply for a grant (up to $2,500) for summer research or some other worthy project undertaken between the junior and senior years. These summer grants are increased for scholars on financial aid in order to compensate for their expected summer’s earnings toward their college expenses. The summer grants provide an opportunity to engage in a scholarly project of some depth. Scholars have found this rewarding intellectually and often also a strong beginning to a senior honors project."

[ b]General Comments:**
DO NOT underestimate yourself. I never thought I would get accepted to CORNELL of all places. The fact that I had to send ALL my test scores made me get the notion that I would be rejected, as I had some pretty low ACT scores. But the holistic admissions process is true. Don’t lose confidence, and good luck to you all! :)
