Here's the thread from last year for those interested:

I'm not sure if the article has been posted...

But you guys all know that ED apps were up like 10% this year? Sry.. I know it sucks.

I hate that '12 ED decision thread-so depressing. But we should do our own anyhow. Check out the other ED thread once your letters come.

I applied ED. looking at the old ED thread is depressing

alright, whose idea was it to look at the '12 thread? x[ points fingers at people

I've submitted ED as well, and I'm very anxious to find out. The entire coaching staff at the school has told me that they've already run me by admissions and that I have nothing to worry about, but I still don't have a likely letter or anything else in writing. As a result, I'm still tweaking out. I don't want to be, but even the tiny bit of uncertainty is killing me.

Haha, jlaw, I don't think you have much to worry about.

This thread is dead! But either way it's two weeks or less until we find out...ahh!

I guess I'll write here... woo hoo

ED '13

Bananafish9:
Only a week if I heard correctly: the 8th!

ED '13 or bust.

I applied ED as well. One of my friends found out he got accepted into college (not Dartmouth) today. Only 14 more days at the most.. might be as few as 7? That would be amazing, but I heard that the 8th is just for wink letters for strongly hooked candidates.

What is a strongly hooked candidate? Just someone that is either in sports or a legacy? Or does it mean if they really, REALLY like you they'll tell you then? And what is the point of a wink letter? I believe that is a waste of paper, sending more than one letter to some people. (Not that I wouldn't want to know early)

What I hate is that my parents, friends, and teachers all think I'm going to get in and are already addressing me like I go to D-it's really weird and it'll suck when I get rejected...

I think if your teachers all think you're getting in, you probably have a really good shot. Parents and friends... maybe the latter, but the former may be delusional. :-)

My son applied ED. He goes to one of the best private HS in the country, is captain of both football and lacrosse, plays basketball as well. Sports and camps all year round, some volunteering, but not huge... no time. Has great grades in the toughest curriculum offered, 6 AP's and got a 33 on the ACT. His SAT II's are all 690's. His recommendations should be stellar. Before I started reading all these threads I would have thought he had a decent shot, but now... I am definitely going to start talking up the Plan B schools. :(

Question: How do you know about the earlier than the 15th date? I wonder if they email it AND mail it. Double rejection or double joy. Also... How many of you had Alumni interviews?

colinization: I am totally in the same place as you right now. My parents both act like I have nothing to worry about, which is quite frustrating (my mom already wants to make plans to go up the weekend after decisions to buy sweatshirts!!!). My friends all tell me they don't think there is any chance I won't get in. It is almost like when (if) I get deferred or rejected they will be more disheartened than me... which is totally not fair.

Modadunn: I had an alumni interview about two weeks ago.

Modadunn... don't count your son out just yet! Being really committed (and successful) in athletics is just as important/impressive as most other ECs. Clearly, your son is still up to par in academics too.

Modadunn- my understanding is that D emails you to tell your decision is online, and then you have to go to that webpage to find it. Then they mail you a letter. No one knows when this will be, but it'll be the 15th or before.

So it's like I said.. it could be Joy Joy or salt in a wound. :(

All I know is that my son forwent being recruited at a number of other schools simply to apply ed to D. Although both coaches said they'd love to see him walk on if he gets in on his own, they could easily be offering platitudes because no skin off their backs. Teacher recs: 1 is a D graduate (and a dean) and the other rarely writes them and actually offered to write his... so, I am thinking those ought to be great. Still.. he didn't do so well on the SAT I's comparatively and since you have to send all scores even when you maybe just want to send SAT II's is kind of bad. Took those suckers 3 times and went up every time across the board, but still. ACT's took once and pretty much aced them well enough to not take them again. I guess you just don't know what they consider "most imp" but they def can't just take high test scores and recruited athletes ED cause overall that might make for a relatively dysfunctional class (no offense to either side). Then again, it's Dartmouth.. .they can do whatever they want!!

I just know it will be hugely disappointing for him and frankly, that he hasn't put his heart into other applications yet is concerning. Given he might be semi-depressed come the 15th, this makes me VERY nervous.

the wink letters arent only for the sports or legacy applicants; i knew a receipiant of one of those based purely on a quality application.

Praying~~Praying~~~
I hope it's an acceptance!
