Official Decision Thread: Penn '15 SCHOOL OF ARTS & SCIENCES

As was discussed in another thread, several of us think that it would be beneficial to future Penn applicants (and deferees) to isolate Wharton decisions from SAS decisions (and from Nursing and SEAS, which are less popular on CC). Thus, this is the thread on which only School of Arts & Sciences applicants should post their results. Please follow the same format as the overall decision thread; copy-and-pasting posts from that thread to this one should work well.

Applicants to coordinated dual-degree programs should post on the thread of the undergraduate school to which they chose to apply if not accepted to LSM, M&T, Huntsman, Nursing & Healthcare Management, or Computers & Cognitive Science. Thanks!

Thanks Travelbug!

sounds good =). ill be posting in a week! haha

you forgot the Bio-Dental program.

I don’t like this idea. It would be weird to have some dual-degree kids in one thread and others in another thread just because they chose different single-degree choices. It’s disorganized for future CC-ers who want to see the decision threads. And plus, some dual-degree kids did not elect to be considered for a single degree option. Where would they post? It is best to keep it the way it has been and just make a comprehensive UPenn thread.

i disagree with the above post. on the contrary, people who want to see the decision threads for their particular major or program they want to apply to will be able to see the stats and the decisions for those people. i know from my side, trying to search for people applying to CAS or my program was such a hassle because they were hidden behind all the Wharton and other applicants. it’ll make it much more organized, other than for the people who apply undeclared…

^ Okay. But…

1) Would it not be disorganized to have certain dual-degree students post in one thread and others in another thread solely due to the fact they had a different single-degree choice?

2) Where will dual-degree students with no single-degree options post?

Even if we created a separate thread for dual-degree options, this would disorganize those that get rejected from their dual-degree but accepted to their single.
We cannot screw over a group of students in the future just because they make up a minority.

Honestly though. screw over a group of kids? This really isn’t that deep. We didn’t get rid of the regular penn decision thread. This is just an extra place to post stats to make it easier for people who wanna know about a particular school. This isn’t going to screw anyone over. It’s just CC.

I think one thread makes more sense.

One thread does make more sense for practical purposes. While it would be nice to filter out admissions by each school, I think doing so would reduce the total amount of people who post into each of those threads. By keeping one thread, everyone posts there since there is only one place to post, with multiple threads, maybe someone posts in the overall thread, but not the school specific thread, or vice versa. Are we reading too deep into this, yes, but I don’t mind scrolling through the CAS acceptances to look at the Wharton or SEAS acceptances, it takes maybe an extra 2 seconds of my life.

^I concur (and will proceed to continue writing to fill up ten characters)

I’m with IAmABeast and hopeful201. We’re not trying to screw anyone over; on the contrary, this thread is meant to be helpful to the majority of future CC Penn applicants. It was a pain to look through last year’s overall thread to find stats from kids who applied to the undergrad school I’ve applied to. As for the kids who chose not to be considered for a single degree, doesn’t it kind of go without saying that they shouldn’t post in the school-specific threads at all…? If need be, I will copy and paste posts from the overall thread into this one. Don’t post here if the concept somehow offends you.

That said, I am bumping this thread up so that it’s more accessible tomorrow. I hate to be that person, but please try to refrain from posting unnecessarily on this thread so that it’s less cluttered for future CCers. Thanks! :)

rejected =/

[ *] SAT II: US History 700, Lit 740, Math 2 640 (I think?)
[ *] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): Not sure, 4.04 weighted (not a ton offered at my school)

[ *] Senior Year Course Load: Dual Enrollment/AP Calc and College Writing, Honors Physics, Business Mentorship Program at JMU, Advanced Choir, Jazz Band, Honors Government
[ *] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Lots of acting, best actor/honors actor for District, Regional and VTA (Virginia Theater Association) type stuff. Some academic stuff too, but nothing HUGE

[ /list]**Subjective:[ /b][list]
[ *] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Mostly theater, I also have lacrosse, football, and tennis (the last of which is still current for me). I’m the actor/singer of my school. My main ECs involve musical/play leads along with Drama Club President and some other club involvement
[ *] Job/Work Experience: None
[ *] Volunteer/Community service: Various stuff, Haunted Cave at national park, running chains for junior league football, environmental pick-ups, things like that. I don’t have any that have monster hours in them, but I do have a good variety that adds up.
[ *] Summer Activities: VA Summer Residential Governor’s School for the Visual and Performing Arts (That’s definitely my biggest, and I scored highest out of my county in the adjudication) Other than that, some theater, learning piano, my own ways of being productive for the most part
[ *] Essays: I’m in the upper crust of my school’s toughest English class as a writer, and I went through multiple drafts. My personal was VERY personal and dear to me; it spoke of a huge ongoing struggle in my life. My Why Penn was very heartfelt, with parallels to Ben Franklin and earnest interests/speculations pertaining to my potential time at Penn.
[ *] Teacher Recommendation: One Glowing (drama teacher) and one that was also pretty darn braggy (my college writing teacher)
[ *] Counselor Rec: The counselor this year was new, but I had some good chats with her. She pretty much hit my good ECs and explained one of the lighter aspects of my course load.
[ *] Additional Rec: None
[ *] Interview: None

[ /list]**Other[ /b][list]
[ *] State (if domestic applicant): VA
[ *] Country (if international applicant):
[ *] School Type: Public

[ *] Gender: Male
[ *] Income Bracket: Low
[ *] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None that I know of… Maybe low income?

[ /list]**Reflection[ /b][list]
[ *] Strengths: Theater EC, Summer Gov School, Essays
[ *] Weaknesses: SATs, Courseload/GPA
[ *] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I honestly think it was my essays, my area’s level of competition, and the amount of info I soaked in at my visit to Penn
[ *] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Haven’t applied anywhere else

[ /list]**General Comments:[ /b] For those who were not accepted, admissions are basically a crap shoot; the information I posted above can surely attest to that. Your work ethic and open mind will get you further than any degree, Ivy or otherwise, could.

To those who did get accepted, I look forward to romping with you in Philly!

Grats all Penn Acceptees :)
