oh and btw how is everybody feeling? still down from last friday? i think i’m gonna be feeling anxious until april =/

does anyone have the letter?? thanks

Upenngirl: You jinxed yourself with that name. Don’t get yourself too upset. If your stats were good enough to have a shot at Wharton, you will be accepted to other great schools.

Hey guys! I know it must tough to be deferred since I was in the same position last year. I had to do so many other applications and wait until March when I was accepted to Penn. You guys need to stay positive and make your rd applications really strong. It’ll also help to send the admission officers a letter saying that Penn is still your #1 in addition to any awards or high midterm grades. Good luck!

sighhh—but what other awards can i possibly get?
hm. in the past 3 months, ive become a cocacola scholarship semifinalist, an ohio junior miss state finalist, and member of a new diversity group at our school and vice president of a newly created cooking club!
hahaha nothing much
the first two are exciting but are for scholarships—so do they count as “awards” lmao
and the last two are for sure new groups at our school and i joined before i knew anything about Penn deferring me…do u think they’d count or would the adcoms see them as insignificant??

lol at the 50 page letter
i was thinking that too (: haha

and as for the aftershock of practically being rejected–it’s kind of faded, but i think its just because ive been really busy lately…
it’ll hit me again.
oof.
<3 sarah

Yeah…this sounds crazy but CC is the place where I feel I can actually talk about how hard it is haha because my friends are sick of hearing it and are like “who cares?” and “its only one college”

Haha but they don’t understand that Penn isn’t just any college lol

I think you might as well let them know, it won’t hurt. It can only help. It’s just crazy to me that the deferral acceptance rate is lower than the overall rate now because we all want to go there. I guess its because everyone in the deferral pool is completely qualified so it makes it more competitive?

Ahh I just think about it all the time hahahaha Penn has taken over my life.

How do you fall in love with a college you have never attended? You are rediculous. Penn, along with Cornell, is the backup for most Ivy applicants. It is a nice school but has its negatives like everywhere else. (Such as an ugly student body).

Clearly Penn is not a backup school for anyone, seeing as people with perfect stats and amazing extracurriculars get rejected every year. Same with Cornell. No Ivy can be called a safety school.

What exactly should and can you do after you’ve gotten deferred?
Should you take the SATs again or subject tests in hopes for better schools or do more activities or just leave it be?

omg openupsayrah! I’m finalist for Illinois Jr Miss! lol that’s exciting! I can’t wait until the competition but I’m nervous

rbj, Penn has taken over my life too. It’s sad.

ugh. now off to my other apps… =(

I don’t think I jinxed myself; I just made this my user name because it is my #1 school I applied to. I didn’t make it this because I KNEW I was going to get in. But to everyone: What other places did you apply to?

I’m applying to Northwestern, Duke, Cornell, Tufts, and Brown. Good thing I had finished all my apps before December 11th–I didn’t feel like doing anything for a couple of days. And I already got into UMich so I have somewhere great to go if all else fails haha.

My best friend got rejected from her early decision school and now she’s applying to Penn as her second choice. I mean I really want her to get in so she can go to a freaking awesome school, but I’ll also be jealous ahhaha (assuming she gets in RD and I get rejected). I guess I have a few more months to worry about that one…but it would be hard I think for a little bit. Is that terrible of me?

"Clearly Penn is not a backup school for anyone, seeing as people with perfect stats and amazing extracurriculars get rejected every year. Same with Cornell. No Ivy can be called a safety school. "

I never called Penn a safety school. Whether a school is a safety, match or reach depends on the applicant. What I am saying is that people shouldn’t get so fixated on a school. There are good and bad things about all schools. I will say that Penn is the second least selective of the Ivies and the second least preferred. The order of preference of Ivy admits is as follows:

Harvard

Yale

Princeton

Brown

Columbia

Dartmouth

PENN

Cornell

Of the students admitted to Penn and also admitted to other Ivies the numbers choosing Penn are like this:

94 percent choose Harvard over Penn
89 percent choose Yale over Penn
84 percent choose Princeton over Penn
65 percent choose Brown over Penn
54 percent choose Dartmouth over Penn
37 percent choose Cornell over Penn

hardworker- ahh! wouldnt it be crazy if both of us won our state pageants?? then we could meet up for real and stress over penn in person! haha if you go to the ajm website and look at the ohio finalists, im the very last one listed “westerville’s junior miss”
and in response to tom…
god, i hope a lot of people RD get into harvard yale etc etc…

even though waitlist is pretty much another easy way to let people down about penn, it would be way better than rejection and you really never know!!

im hopin for a waitlist–at least. haha then thered be a twinkle of hope.

I don’t think deferrals can be waitlisted. They all get final decisions.

ChoklitRain, congrats on your Hogwarts acceptance hahaha…I would pick there over Penn.
But then again Penn looks like Hogwarts so maybe not.

Excuse my ignorance of college slang, but where is Hogwarts? I’ve heard people tell me every university looks like it… SO CONFUSING!

And also, do people really prefer brown over penn and columbia? I find that confusing.

does penn really have an ugly student body? they were pretty attractive when i visited…

oh…well…crap.

and omg my friend got accepted to Hogwarts too! shes in gryffindor
i was accepted and sorted into ravenclaw cuz im asian, but i haven’t committed because I’m waiting for my April 1 decision from Penn…

and Cadillac–Hogwarts is a school of witchcraft and wizardry from the Harry Potter series of books. (: and…actually a lot of colleges DO look like it

and to me, i think that if its an ivy and its not harvard or yale then they’re pretty much equal ivies so its up to peoples preferences to turning others down.

gosh i just feel so bad about myself when people have to turn down ivies for other ivies…there are ppl at my school struggling and crying because they can’t even get into the state school main campus and people like us get in to schools like that in such a cinch…

we have to remember how blessed we are to begin with, no matter what the decision–for us, ivies are capable of being grasped and its all a matter of luck. there are hundreds of thousands of students who could only dream of going to these schools :

damnit i know i could make myself happy at OSU, but…ahh i hate saying this because then i sound like a conceited *****, but i know i can do better :(

^^dont cry. im in a similar position as yourself. except you have way better extracurriculars than me . im in at Case (20k scholarship) and OSU honors but id rather not go to either :-/
