cathymee, I am also a NMSF and I was offered a special "regular decision that gives you results early". (So I could apply to a SCEA school). gatordan is correct in that there was a non-binding option for NMSF if they went to the summer visiting program.

I'm positive that it's not binding, if for no other reason then I didn't fill out any ED contract. Maybe it was just for us who went to the summer visiting program, but I know it was an option for me.

It wont make a big difference though, from what I've been told being a NMF essentailly guarantees you admission to UF unles there is some other SERIOUS problem with your app, it's not like there would be suspense over whether you get in or not, it's essentially guaranteed.

thanks for clarifying the ED /NMF process.S wasnt able to do a summer visit so I guess wasnt given that option. He'll just have to wait until they make the RD#1 decisions. The only reason we're questioning is being OOS..not so sure NMF is guaranteed admit from OOS...anybody know ?

yeah it is I'm sure. UF HIGHLY covets national merit, and they constantly use the line that they're #2 in the country second only to Harvard as far as NMF admits, they give an outstanding financial deal, the exact same one that I get in state, and the only way they can keep up the # of admits is to take out of state as well.

That said, unless your son has some sort of felony arrests, serious disciplinary problems, or low gpa/sat's, he's in.

cathy, your S will have no problems. My oos S got in last year because of nmsf (he had good grades but not stellar, and his class rank was only 30%ish). There was a person last year who recruited nmsf's and she handled the application and we heard back in about a week. I'm not sure if she is doing it still because when we went to orientation, she is now an honors' advisor.
