I applied as a transfer student to VSB for the Fall of 2014. Although the odds are against me, I am really hoping for an acceptance since Nova was my first choice from the beginning. Does anyone know when decisions will be sent out to us transfer students? Feel free to comment with your academic stats, insight, etc. Best of luck to everyone applying!

I got accepted to VSB last week. Transferring from Bates College with a 3.75 gpa. Member of Bates Investment Club. Applied last year and was denied, had a pretty average HS gpa.

I just sent my final grades a few days ago since my current college (University of Delaware) finished on May 31st. Congrats Ktrain on your VSB acceptance. It is quite an accomplishment! How long did it take you to receive your decision after submitting the required documents?

Thank you! It took two weeks I think. I saw my decision on the myNova portal almost a full week before I got a letter in the mail, so keep checking your myNova. Also, the acceptance letter came in a small envelope in the mail, so if you get a small envelope don’t assume you were denied. I was expecting a big one so I was worried at first lol

Thanks for the heads up there. Nova really threw me a curve ball because when I called admissions, the lady said they would review all the VSB applications at once. I guess they decided to switch to a rolling basis for whatever reason. I am guessing you plan on attending in the fall?

Thank you, it is much appreciated! Congrats on Notre Dame though. It is a definitely a tremendous school. What college will you be entering there?

College of Arts and Letters as an Economics major. Unfortunately they don’t allow external or internal transfers into the business school, but Econ works too. It was very hard to pass up VSB though

Yeah, Mendoza is an excellent business school and it doesn’t surprise me that they do not take transfer students. Best of luck to you there! Just out of curiosity, why did you pass admission to a business school and instead choose to pursue Econ? I’ve been thinking about doing the same and didn’t know if there was much difference between the two choices.

I was an econ major at the school I transferred from, so I know first hand that Econ is a very versatile major and its also more challenging than most business majors (from what I’ve heard). I got an internship at a bank this summer, and during my interview, the CEO of the bank said: “Studying economics? I have to ask… What made you pick that? I know it’s very difficult, and to get a 3.75 in it is very impressive” … don’t want to sound like I’m bragging, but it is recognized as a difficult major with many possible to career paths. At Nova I was going to double major in Econ and Finance, but at Notre Dame I’m going to do Econ and Math. If you ask me, Econ is no downgrade from other business majors. I think the worst part is earning a bachelor of arts rather than a bachelor of science, but overall Econ is a very good degree to have. Nova is cool because it offers both BA and BS for Econ.

PS - From what I’ve read online, another possible downside of Econ is that, most likely, you’ll have to go to grad school and earn a masters degree to make lot of money. Idk if it’s like that for accounting, finance, etc.

Also, econ uses much more difficult math for econometrics and data analysis, and I love math. So that’s a more personal reason for me choosing Econ

Yeah, I always knew that Econ was a versatile and respected major. Definitely not at a disadvantage then. Congrats on your internship though, definitely impressive.

I found out a few days ago that I was accepted at VSB for this upcoming fall. I will most likely attend but I haven’t sent my deposit yet. I will probably have to live off campus because housing is slim for transfer students, so I’ll be looking for a roommate as well. @Caliboy1234, best of luck with your application. Hope you’ll be joining me next year!

@bkott03 Thank you. I actually visited campus the other day and spoke with the “father,” aka the director of transfer admission. He said it is extremely hard to transfer in considering there are so many spots already given to internal transfers. I guess if it worked for you, I shall see soon. Next week is the expected notification. I hope so. But whatever happens, happens. At least I got into Emory

@Caliboy1234 I think visiting and talking with someone definitely helped you. I made a personal visit myself and talked with the transfer admissions counselor about how much I wanted to go there. I think my interest played a huge part in my admission. So I hope making a personal visit helps you the same way it helped me. Regardless, Emory is an excellent school, so if Nova doesn’t work out, you’ll still land on your feet.
