Official Harvard EA Decisions - Class of 2010

thanks, I actually applied to a summer program called YSP, but their policy of only taking three kids from each school and filling half their program with girls screwed me over. But I'm not bitter.

I guess I should start calling people in my area, thanks for the idea.

soooo... i just spent 10 minutes reading some posts and ive got to say, harvard is being pretty gay...

*Decision: Deferred *

[/ul]Other Factors: 4 years varsity tennis (captain), founded a community service club, taught mentally challenged kids to play tennis, my interviewer was one of my reccomenders brother in law, did research in cyprus, russia, and at rsi
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: they are freaking insane!! i know so many people who have worse stats than me who got in! i feel extremely cheated, i hate geographical admission.

i dont think there is anything left to say, but harvard made a huge mistake, i cant see any weakness in my application, except for my less than perfect gpa, and im not dumb, i could tell if there was something wrong...

i mean bro and sis graduated + captain varsity tennis + really good essays + really good reccs + heartfelt community service + great interview + insane research + rsi = deferral?

and before you say im a horrible person and thats why i didnt get in, im really not, you guys dont know me, you cant make that judgement, my entire app displayed a passion for science and a thirst for knowledge in general, and there was more science stuff that corraborated that than i put down here.

well... i dont get it, do you?

due to my permanent ban and since this name will be banned in a few minutes, im just going to quit the forum, its been real kiddies

Well, before you go, I just want to let you know, you should not have been deferred, when compared to some of the other applicants, even regardless of your numbers. What they were thinking, with many decisions, I'll just never know. ~sigh~ Again, good like in the RD round.

damn straight.

Jeez... People here really love science and math. Also, are 50% of people on this board asian ? However, it doesn't seem like many are into engineering.

perhaps they're trying to teach you a life lesson- Aesop style.

thats not their job, their job is to admit me.

I like writing and music and math. :) But I'm best at the first two.

I don't see the point of continuously arguing this.

Frankly, if zogoto is rejected in the regular round, Harvard has just lost one of the most promising scientists in the future.

To also add to the deferred bonanza.

Up here in Toronto, our International Math Olympiad 2005 Gold/2004 Bronze Medalist Winner was also deferred.

In the end, if they reject these people, this is Harvard's loss. Regardless of what people may say in justifying Harvard's reasons.

i still want someone to tell me why i didnt get in

Frankly, if Harvard did not admit an arrogant, self-absorbed, self-righteous, and generally insular person, then they made a very good choice.

This person is obviously operating under the assumption that he/she hid his/her caustic and vehement personality well. But I would like to think that his/her deferral is partly due to the observational powers of the Harvard admission officers who peers through the layers of ornate decorations that belies this vitriolic soul.

My s went through this same ordeal last year. Harvard disappointed us, and then he was on Harvards waitlist. Lets get back to statistics. Forty percent alumni, URM's another 15 percent. You have lost 450 seats. you are now competing for 350 seats. Stanford the place to be!!!!!!!!!! Go West young man!!!!!

i think thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard

1) you only know me through this forum, so cant judge my character due to the limited scope

2) im actually a really nice person in real life

3) even if i was all those words your thesaurus spit out, it wouldnt be hard to seem amiable with regards to my application, but im not so im just amiable by default

4) i am obviously very bitter now, its not like i am like this all the time

5) i dont like you

obviously that is not the reason for the deferral, that was actually kind of a sad attempt...

edit: it really is looking like stanford now, or possibly mit

Spyder, first off, I think you should have gotten in, along with zygote. Your stats are pretty crazy.

Why didn't you get in? From my experience at science competitions and the like, you have to make a big impression on one of the admissions officers (he/she has to go to bat for you when they meet to vote on your decision). This means that you have to seem like a nice and interesting guy. Any pomposity in the essays will probably kill you right away.

You should go to stanford. Its warm with palm trees... Sounds nice to me...

sydertennis, I though there was no way harvard would defer you LOL. Guess you bit your tongue from your cockiness.

Tupac, I think you're a troll. Not sure though.

but i dont understand..so you mean its WORSE to do well in science competitions?

yeah tupac i got that, but there was NO pomposity in my essays!

they were very 3 dimensional and personable

I'm just relating science competitions to college admissions. The reason I won my category at the ISEF was due a large part to my communication skills and making the judges like me.

LOL, aren't all the great mathematicians and scientists like this?

these threads always end in arguments.
