Official Harvard EA Decisions - Class of 2010

Can you just put in your PIN # into the "Admitted Students" thing at the Harvard site to check if you got in or not? Or do they give you another number for that?

congrats to all those who were accepted. it's an amazing feeling, I remember very well. enjoy it now, because a year from now, you're not going to be feeling so elated. you're going to feel STRESSED OUT! but in a good way, kind of. like in a character-building way. okay, crap, off to write my paper(s).

ps the thing they say about the hard part is getting into harvard is only partly true. it's pretty hard once you get here too. ; -)

DHA_3000 --- I can't believe you didn't at least get deffered.... That's terrible.

yea I asked an admissons officer who came to my school if anyone gets rejected EA. He says that VERY few do, and they are people who had NO chance. He said the adcom takes it extremely seriously to reject an EA candidate.

Decision: Deferred

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: 2340 (740 on verbal)

[] GPA: 5.3-5.4
[] Rank: 2/721

[] Gender: male
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Won several national championships in MAO competition including 1 composite individual championship (by 30 points, heh), many more state championships including state champion two times. Eagle Scout, numerous service projects done. Volunteered in a leprosy rehab center in India over the summer. I have a bucket o' academic awards. National merit semi, national ap scholar, etc. Other math awards (last count was... 70ish?), but never made USAMO.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: I have no research experience, I dont play a sport, the kiss of death from being an upper middle class Indian
[/ul]
Other Factors:**
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Good job to all those who did get in, i'm sure you will have a wonderful time. I still cant believe GuitarMAN didnt get in, its like my entire perception of college admission has been flipped upside down. I really dont harbor any ill-will against harvard for their decision about me, but the deferral of kids that awesome makes me kind of angry (like Eric Price last year).

*Decision: Deferred *

[] Teacher Recs: 2 required, from a French teacher grades 11 and 12 and a Chemistry teacher grades 11 and 12. I would guess very positive to my personality and intellectual mind and acadmic and extracurricular dedication.
[] Counselor Rec: I'd guess boring, repetitive, ignorant
[] Interview (feel and general location): Boring, copied down info easily found on apps, lectured me on my college choices and possible majors. Seemed to not be interested in my personality at all.
[] Hook (if any): Low income, my very time-consuming and rather rare EC theatre, part of the Pagan community
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]

[] Gender: Female
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: ECs and Academics are strong, SAT scores are weak
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: SAT scores, typos in essay
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: My tarot cards told me I'd most definitely get accepted. I guess they were wrong!

I just wanted to say I really wanted to show you all that SAT scores don't matter. But tawny already proved that fact so it's ok. I was actually expecting rejection... but all those deferred or denied:

PLEASE REMEMBER Harvard is not really anything. Nor is it the best school, nor is it all that great. I think it's strange that their matriculation rate is something like 91%. There is so much wrong with that school. I applied there early as a mistake (I thought Stanford wasn't SCEA) and Harvard WAS NOT MY FIRST CHOICE. It doesn't have to be yours either. Please remember the weak academics, the high crime, the general lonliness on campus. Give yourself a chance to shine; just because Harvard doesn't like you it's not the end of the world. We are all going to be successful people if we want to be.

I was deferred as well. sigh I guess will post stats later.

Decision: DEFERRED

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT I: V: 720 M: 740 W: 760
[] SAT IIs: Math I: 740 US History: 710 Lit: 710
[] ACT
[] GPA: 4.0 Unweighted
[] Rank: 1/400ish
[] Other stats: Senate Youth Rep. for Oklahoma, started Repub. Club, Co-Started State Teenage Repub. Convention, started local Civic Organization, and bunch of other Republican-related activities.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Interesting but long (800 words)
[] Teacher Recs: Didn't read
[] Counselor Rec: Didn't read
[] Hook (if any): Active Libertarian-Republican from Oklahoma
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Oklahoma
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasion
[] Gender: Male
[] Perceived Strengths/Weaknesses: Super low SAT's, medium EC's
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/denied: SAT's were too low.
[/ul]Other Factors: My SAT score report said I ommitted questions, when I didn't ommit any to my knowledge. I have requested a hand rescore. I believe my EC's were not as good as I thought (Republican Activism).
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: Harvard is the ultimate, the exalted...the best college in the world. I have not met the standard of acceptance and thus was politely deferred.
