Heavy HC legacy

FYI – HC gives out almost no merit $$ and never has. They offer $$ for need. You are expected to pay your FAFSA EC and student loans.
FinAid works by need which they do meet (unlike some other private schools).
After you are incredibly thoroughly vetted and truly aren’t hiding assets the formula is simple…
Total cost -minus- FAFSA EC amount -minus- amount of available Federal loans/work =equals= scholarship (which is actually a financial-need grant).

HELP! Coworker’s DD accepted RD at Holy Cross yesterday. Great news! I am asking on her behalf if there might be a second letter coming offering merit money / scholarship (as opposed to loan money). As of now, price out of their reach.

Holy Cross offers financial aid, but very little merit. There are a couple scholarships offered to Classics majors and possibly music majors, but she would probably know already if she is being considered for those. There are also some endowed scholarships, but those are generally given out as part of the financial aid award, so would know about those already.

I was accepted to Holy Cross and didn’t apply for financial aid, but I received the Trustee Fellowship. This is the closest thing HC has to a merit scholarship for people who aren’t interested in the classics or music.

@maya1x I’ve never heard of that one. I can’t seem to find anything about it online either. I didn’t realize that HC offered merit other than the 3 they advertise on their site:

Tuition Scholarships: These are merit-based awards offered at the point of admission, with student eligibility determined by the Admissions Office:

◦The Ellis Scholarship is a full tuition scholarship that is awarded to a Worcester resident high school graduate.
◦The Brooks Scholarship is a full tuition scholarship awarded to a major in the music department.
◦The Bean Scholarship is a full tuition scholarship awarded to a major in the classics department.

Does anyone know what the requirements are for the Trustee Fellowship? Is it possible that this is an athletic scholarship? I know HC is D1 and does give out athletic merit awards.

Congratulations to all the students accepted to Holy Cross. Hope you have the chance to attend the accepted student Open House 4/9. Great opportunity to tour the gorgeous campus again, to hear professors give presentations and sample the very awesome cuisine at Kimball Dining Hall. Even the under construction Luth Athletic Complex was impressive to a purely academic, non athlete student. We left the Open House last year knowing that HC was the perfect place for our very bright student who was looking for an intellectual atmosphere without pretense or cut throat competitiveness.

At accepted students day yesterday there was a luncheon for students who received the Trustee Fellowship. It’s a new initiative for students who the Admissions Office identified as those who have potential to lead / ‘go-getters’. It can be used to fund an immersion trip, a summer of research or other opportunity. It seems like Holy Cross streamlined some of their programs and decided to offer this instead. They said that they are planning on offering this to only 30 students- it’s $5,000 but can’t be applied to tuition (unfortunately).

Is $50k for one year or four year scholarship?

@NEMomof4 thanks for clarifying that the 5K has nothing to do with an academic merit scholarship. Maya1x was mistaken. Marytango may have read your referenced 5k non scholarship as a 50k scholarship.

Academic merit scholarships of any size are extraordinarily rare at HC. @suzyQ7 essentially summed the (full tuition-only) merit scholarships available for incoming students.

On the other hand, Holy Cross does give out 60 full athletic scholarships (tuition, room and board, etc) in football, 13 full athletic scholarships (tuition, room and board, etc.) in men’s basketball and a similar amount of athletic scholarships money in in women’s sports. So if you are looking for merit money at HC, hit the weight room.
