[] Job/Work Experience: Worked during the summer and sometimes during the year
[] Volunteer/Community service: A lot through my ECs
[] Summer Activities: I read more during the summer than a lot of people probably do in their lifetime. Work. Learned Calculus because I planned to take multivariable through EPGY, but it was too much money for what it is, so I’m studying that independently now. [/ul]

Writing (Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best):[ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects): JHU essay was probably a 6. It was mostly an explanation of why I want to double in Physics and BME, not really an essay. [list]

[] Other(s):[/ul]

[] Interview: Didn’t realize we had to request one. I applied to 15 schools, so it was slightly difficult to keep track of.

[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: 100,000
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I did CTY? Not much of a hook I guess.[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Unique ECs/interests. I care more about learning than grades(not that I get bad grades), which is a good thing in real life but apparently not in the college admission process.
[] Weaknesses: I’m terrible at standardized testing. No research.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I suck at standardized testing. I have had no opportunity to carry out any type of scientific research.
[] What would you have done differently?: Absolutely nothing. Maybe minor things here and there, but overall I have no regrets about my high school career. If I would have had to change myself to get into an elite school, I wouldn’t do it.[/ul]

General Comments: What can I say. This is now my 5th non-safety rejection. I was rejected at JHU, Chicago, MIT, Stanford, and Tufts. Waitlisted at Carnegie Mellon. I was desperate for this one, and of course, it didn’t happen. I applied for BME, but I didn’t get in anyway so I guess that doesn’t really matter. I’ve taken my fair share of AP math/science classes, but I guess everyone else has too. My school does not encourage any type of research at all, and I was not aware people even did research in high school until I started consistently reading this website. I’ve worked so hard and put so much into the last 4 years, and I go so far beyond the things we learn in the classroom. I have true passion for what I want to do, but I guess that message didn’t come through in my application. I am trying as hard as I can to maintain the sliver of hope I have for the Ivies tomorrow, but it’s becoming really hard to remain hopeful after so much rejection. If tomorrow doesn’t go according to plan, it looks like I’ll be heading to Boston University next year. I’ll definitely be trying to transfer, so maybe I’ll see some of you in the future, or at a different school depending on tomorrow. To everyone who got in, congratulations. You are all amazing and you all truly deserve it, and if I am going to lose my spot, I’m glad it’s going to one of you. I hope you all enjoy JHU, and good luck to anyone who is anxiously awaiting tomorrow!
