Official June SAT CRITICAL READING: Yellowstone Park

Who wouldn't nfeel young next to a billion-year-old-rock? :)

what were the choices with the question with the answer movements

hmm... dictionary.com defines "fable" as something that instructs or uplifts, and in the context of this passage it seemed that that was what it meant. though i could be wrong.

Still think that riddle and fable = enigmatic and edifying.
Edifying means instructive. The purpose of a fable is to be instructive.

Movements
progressions
instructions
stairs

and something totally unrelated.

"puzzlement and fabrication"

I don't know. He's comparing a lack of knowledge (puzzlement or enigma) to a complete picture of his father's life story. His father's life story is not a fabrication, it's a chronicling. Then again, edifying doesn't really make sense, which is what I put, figuring it meant "construction," as in the construction of an accurate history.

I also think "steps" were movements

iborrowedthisid - that's what I thought. Nothing about the father would be fake, instead it would "build up" her knowledge about. I could be wrong though.

the movement was instructions. the steps were referring to instructions of the movements like where to move.

Er, Blazingfire, if you're still here, could you elaborate on the dilapidated ballet school being paradoxical again? Or does anyone else have a comment on that one?

the paradox is that such beautiful ballet is being practiced in such terrible conditions

well it was saying how gracious and how beautiful of an art ballet was but the only place they could do it in was a crappy building. It was also off topic so digression>>>paradoxical

I think I put paradoxical. Because she's talking about the beauty of ballet, and then the dilipated old building. Was digression an option or was htat a different question?

It's paradoxical because the "beautiful art" was being taught in the dilapidated building

It's paradoxical because she was pointing out that such a beautiful art was being practiced in such dilapidated conditions.

i put edifying because i remember the writer wanted to learn more about his father so fabrication wouldn't fit...he didn't want false information about his father...this is just what i remember so it might not be THAT accurate

fabricated in that context did not mean a made up story. That was obviously a hook.

well he did say "if i was a fictional writer" .... fable

here is the SC compilation so far:

Parity
Remuneration
abstemious
Nuanced
Vitriolic
Malicious
Obstinate
Olfactory
Controversial
Complexity
Abstreperous
Ameliorate
Undaunted by…
Longevity

Anyone remember others?

Again about paradoxical, I hesitated because the choice was about "something" stated paradoxical and I remember that I didn't like the choice of that "something"...Does anyone remeber the choice?

@ OP: I think we had the same answer for EVERY question... (indcluding steps - instructions, fable - edifying)

You better be right! lol
