***Official March SAT I Results***

i don't think it's necessary. SAT reasoning math has nothing to do with calculus so if you want to show your strong in math then get an 800 on the Math II subject test. i guess it couldn't hurt though if you retake. your call.

PSAT: 240

SAT:
CR: 800
Math: 800
Writing: 790 (79 multiple choice, 10 essay)

I'm not thrilled with my essay score, but I'm still really, really happy! It would have been nice to get a 2400 just to say I did (because I know I'm capable of it). I was really worried that I had bombed the critical reading, though, so I am super relieved. Yay!

PSAT: 196

SAT:
CR: 660
Math: 690
WR: 760 (70 mc, 12 essay)

2110.. decent?

Hey sorry for double posting guys but can someone give me some advice please? :)

20 away from the magic 2100...
620 cr (+50 from last time)
720 math (-10 from last time)
740 writing 10 essay 72 mc (+70 from last time)

Honestly, I was really surprised with my writing being so high...but at the same time I thought I got 770(only missing 1) on math and I thought I did a bit better on cr...

I got a few questions...

Is there any chance that if I had them regrade math manually i could get higher?

Should I retake? (This was my 2nd try.) Are these really good enough for schools like for example UCLA/Berkeley?

Should I try to get a good score on the ACT instead...maybe aim for a 32, or no?

Yes, but I don't see how any of us could possibly know if it was graded incorrectly or not.

Yes, because quite frankly, your CR score is less than impressive.

Yes, you should try to do this regardless of your SAT score.

max tell me what you ultimately decide, because i have almost the same exact problem as you (just 780 CR instead of 800 CR)

Lol, tnb19 care to share your uber elite skills in CR with me?

oh man, i thought you'd never ask!

...i took 8000 practice tests. Didn't do the vocab lists though...I couldn't stand them, so I did a lot of guessing for the hard vocab words.

And I took the Lit subject test at the beginning of the year, so I think that helped alot.

sweet thanks for the advice Soulside

Max - First collect the facts. Call the colleges you are most interested in. Ask if they take your superscore. If so then there is no harm in taking the SAT again. If not then I would recommend that you "stand down" on the SAT I and concentrate on making an 800 on the SAT II. Another approach is to take the SAT II in May. If you score an 800 then call the college admissions office and see what they say. Good luck and congratulations on your great March SAT scores!

2400!

I'd love to share tips with people looking to boost their scores--I saw a full 200-point improvement from my last SAT.

Here are some of my basic tips (feel free to message me or reply if you want more specifics):
1) Buy a book like Kaplan's SAT 2400 or Barron's SAT 2400 that primarily focus on the traps those losers at ETS stick in the test. You probably already know 85% of the content covered in your typical SAT book, and if you focus on the really tricky stuff the material on test day will look like cake.
2) If you're considering taking a class, DO NOT DO IT. Classes tend to be a waste of time since you're sticking 15 kids with totally different abilities and strengths, and it's impossible for one instructor (no matter how talented) to cater to all of the kids.
3) Don't memorize thousands of vocab words. Study word roots, and check out lists like the Princeton Review's Hit Parade that only focus on the most commonly appearing words.
4) Stop studying two days before test day. If you try to cram, you'll really psych yourself out. Watch a stupid movie the night before. I recommend Knocked Up!!
5) Don't freak out during the test. This is the best test day mantra: "I can take this again. I can take this again."

I decided to retake (because I'm a perfectionist and the colleges on my list all superscore). Thanks so much for your help, guys!

when is everyone retaking? i don't know if may is too early to re-take again

I am retaking in June.

i think classes helped, i had a 500 point leap after taking classes

I see people keep asking if they will improve their score next time around.

If you have to ask then maybe you shouldn't take it again.

I'm retaking in May.

2 wrong for a 740 math makes me want to punch small children.

Why should they have to suffer for your stupid mistakes?

LOL!

Well I am not happy with the math curve either. And I am probably going to retake my 2250 because of my horrible writing score (essay = 7)
