Official Math IIC Discussion Post-Exam

the similar triangles problem...? ...tan(y)
the 0<theta<pi 2="" problem="" with="" the="" i,="" ii,="" iii="" asking="" which="" were="" true...sin(2theta)=""> sin(theta), cos(theta)>cos(2theta), tan(theta)>sin(theta)...?
problem asking for f(x) symmetric about the y-axis..what is true... f(x)=f(-x)</theta<pi>

I put the same for the similar triangles (guessed lol)

uhh it was II and III, if you graph the first one you see that around pi/2 sin(theta) becomes larger

Yup

would skipping 4 and missing maybe… let’s say… 5 be a 740? (going with the barron’s and collegeboard scoring, but this test seemed easier than the two so I’m kind of worried…)

It was just II. If you graphed the equation for III, the equations were the same until about .08, which contradicts the assertion.

left 5 blank… =P
couldn’t find the answer for the right circular cylinder with height 4… I calculated it 5 times and none of my answers would match those given… Just wanted to kill myself!
The similar triangles were kinda easy… The trig. one about which assertions were true was harsh… I think I put II and III, but I might be mistaken =P
@Mcken171: you’ve got the y-axis symmetry one right! =D
So do you guys think there are any chances for an 800 here? Left 5 blank and the rest was thoroughly done, without any guessing…

I did the right circular cylinder problems wrong the first time. I was plugging them into the cone equation. When I went back to them I corrected it and both answers were there. Maybe that’s what you did? The equation you needed did NOT have 1/3 in it.

how come i plugged those into my TI-89
and i got

@ = theta ok?

sin(2@) - sin(@) >0, so i assumed yes, sin(2@) is greater than sin(@)
cos(2@) - cos(@) <0, so i assumed yes, cos(2@) is less than cos(@)
and for tan
i got a lot of split intervals, so i put that as false. as in it switched around greater than and less than during the interval x<@<pi/2

so i got I, and II. how was this thought process wrong? :/

confirmed my answer with my friend and got II and III when plugging in pi/3 as theta in the domain. I orginally got I II and III when plugging in pi/4 because that was the middle of the domain and a bad number, changed it to pi/3 and got II and III

Anybody think math IIC was so hard? I took practice tests in the barrons usually getting 10-12 wrong and answering everything, but for this test i left 3 blank cause had no idea how to do it and ran out of time
