Other Comments: Probably won't go here. I've been to Montreal a lot, just don't like the city that much. And the fact that French is prevalent through out the city discourages me to attend even more. Instead I am going to U of T.

McGill is SO EASY to get into, u just need a high GPA and good SAT scores. I don't how some people get rejected, their grades must be really bad....

Wow... get over yourself, dodger88. In fact, YOUR grade in LIFE must be really bad if you can't understand the simple concept that people have varying level of abilities. Comments like yours should be left unposted because it's just really insulting to know that someone who got rejected might be reading your post right now and they actually tried really hard to get the grades they have. How dare you put those people down and belittle their efforts!
I'm deeply disgusted with your comment. And you should think before you say anything like that ever again.

i dont know if ur technically right in what ur saying

people have different philosophies on things in life, and urs obviously differs from his.
I wouldnt directly be saying what he said, but i tend to believe him for the most part.

In this case, ur philosophy, or outlook,
appears to be that you belive that people are given what they are given (brains, braun, etc), and rightly so.
If someone isnt super smart, you belive that they may try very hard to get into McGill and fail to do so.

As for what dodger and i seem to believe (though i dont know him) is that if you really want to get in, you will do it. You will do whatever you can to get high marks, so that you can be accepted.

You accept biological, and physical predispositions as causing not being great at something.

we refute them and believe that the power of the mind to overcome weakness will (not in all cases, but in many) succeed

not that im saying there is anything wrong with what you do, but i view your oppinion on people not being accepted as not legitimate, because of my philosophy on life

wow
i feel like im going in circles. Im done

The first part of dodger's comment was glib and the second part was just a gratuitous knock or poor attempt at humor. The fact is McGill doesn't consider extracurriculars and it admits on the basis of a combination of GPA and SAT (Act) scores. There are minimums that cannot be trumped via other aspects of the application. Thus, if you're scores exceed the minimums and fit McGill's grid you have an excellent chance of admission. If you're scores don't satisfy the minimums, you're application for admission will be rejected.

Im so psyched!! i just got admitted 3 days ago !!!
and i also received $5000 major entrance scholarship >_< !!!
ive narrowed down my choices to either McGIll or Trinity college-University of Toronto... it's going to be tough ....

I completely stand by what I said, I was not trying to be humorous and didn't intend to offend anyone, but IT'S TRUE!!!!! In terms of selectivity McGill's not even close to top schools in the states, that's why I consider it ludacris to compare it with Harvard in that aspect. As for those who try hard and get rejected by McGill, they would never stand a chance of getting accepted to a top school in the states, it's the TRUTH! Unfortunately, some people like Izabelle56 have trouble facing it...I feel so sorry for them

Alright dodger, chill the hell out. Did someone hit you recently, and you forgot about McGill's conservatory of music? Grades aren't everything when attempting to enter the conservatory; now couple that potentially new piece of information with the fact that some musicians are better on their instrument than they are in their other academic areas. I don't expect you to have sympathy for the piano virtuoso with the 25 ACT, but I feel bad that he can't continue with his gift because he was screwed over by potentially a myriad of things (poor school district, thus education, lack of finances for an ACT tutor, etc.).

A high GPA means nothing if there's a cut off with board scores, hence my previous reasoning, not to mention some schools are inherently harder than others. I don't doubt that you think your a big fish in your what-ever-sized pond, and I'm happy you feel that way. You managed to eat your way to the near top of the food chain in where ever it is you inhabit academically.

Be sure to look out for other fish, though, when you move on to post-secondary education; never forget the philosophy that there's always someone better than you. Just because you haven't found him doesn't me he doesn't exist.

The summation of my post is as follows: practice your humility. Post like #149, and 142 reveal a few things that should be best kept to yourself. Your failures could easily be someone else's triumphs, but I wonder how much you'd like them gloating in your face about it.

"Dude, you didn't get into XXXX-med school? That's funny, they gave me a full ride", and life continues.

/end-rant

I'm sorry for anyone who wasn't Dodger or to a degree Bigtwix, that read through this (both of you will eventually learn that not all of the hands dealt to you can be over-come).
