I'm not surprised I got rejected. I didn't pursue really hard because part of me didn't want to go (want a more "common" college experience). If I had been accepted a more deserving person probably would've been rejected. Good luck to those who got in, I'm guessing it'll be a load of work!

^Can we make that 4 years?

Why were so many of these students rejected? There has to be a reason. I mean, I'm sure teacher recommendation was very great for all of you . . . SAT scores seem high enough, same goes for GPA and rank and test scores. What else?
I don't think awards are such a big deal as intel/researchers were rejected. Even USAMO qualfiers.
Race? Background? Personality? Essays? I mean how different can these factors be from one student to another?
[/quote]

^After going through it, I still don't understand college admissions. I have no clue what they do behind those closed doors. Sometimes you see someone and you'll think, "Yea he/she''s Ivy-material," but they end up getting rejected. You have no idea, especially when MIT is, as someone else said earlier, is trying to change their "purely academic rep."

Books aren't everything. Nothing is "everything."

When/Where did MIT say they wanted to change their "purely academic rep."? Just curious.

I'm not going to post my stats but, I'll say this much, they were not as high as some of these people. but i did show them one thing--my passions, my humanity--something that lives not only in an artist but also in a mathematician, a scientist, or an engineer. I showed them not the kind of passion that is insincere or desperate. not the kind that wants the benefits of end results, but one that revels in the pleasures of doing, one that tires only when resting.

I cannot really explain how surprised and furious I was when I found out I was rejected, especially considering some of the people I know that got in. Every single person I have talked to about the decision has been shocked; I would get in to a rant about AA here, but I figure that it will not gain me any sympathy.
