Official Music for Easing the Pain.....or Screaming for Joy

Let's compile a list of the music we will listen to when we get our Yale decision! I hope it will be good news for all of us (as unlikely as that is)...but let's try to get good ideas for "depression music" and "happy music" LOL.

These sound depressing....but perhaps:

Deferral/Rejection: Green Day: Boulevard of Broken Dreams
Simple Plan: Welcome to my Life

Muse: Hysteria

If I get in, I decided that my "I GOT INTO YALE" dance will be done to Billie Jean by Michael Jackson. I haven't planned out deferral/rejection music yet.

Deferral/Rejection : Requiem for my friend; Lacrimosa - omg its gorgeous. - Preisner.
Pain - Jimmy Eat World
I'm Not Okay - My Chemical Romance
Acceptance : I wanna be sedated - Ramones
I Believe in a thing called love - The Darkness
Fortune Faded - Red Hot Chili Peppers

haha I haven't thought about this!
Acceptance: "Antionette Birby" by The New Blue, a Yale A capella group... it's last line is "Young women who are witty can take on the city at Yale, Yale, Yale!"
Rejection/Deferal: a lot of MSI (Bring the Pain, probably) and Jack Off Jill. And the Basement Jaxx to ease my pain. I'll probably be too busy sobbing uncontrolably to care, though.

Hmm. I loved the Wicked soundtrack. So...

Accepted: "Defying Gravity"

"It's time to try
Defying gravity
I think I'll try
Defying gravity
And you can't pull me down!
...
I'm through accepting limits
'Cuz someone says they're so
Some things I cannot change
But till I try, I'll never know!"

Who was it that mentioned flying if they got accepted? Definitely gonna try that.

And a depressing song would be "I'm not that girl"

"Don't dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember that rush of joy
...
Ev'ry so often we long to steal
To the land of what-might-have-been
But that doesn't soften the ache we feel
When reality sets back in
...
Don't wish, don't start
Wishing only wounds the heart"

They're all love songs, but I'll be brokenhearted if Yale rejects me, so I guess it still works.

good question. I dunno, but a good rejection song would be Franz Ferdinand- "Burn This City"

Rejection: "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"--Bob Dylan ("You just kind of wasted my precious time..."--that's the spirit, right?)

But more likely I'll just end up mooning around to, like, "A Case of You": something irrelevant, and ideal for mooning, and more romantic than I'd like to admit feeling about the college process.

"A Case of You" is one of my favorite songs!

If rejected OR accepted: The Arcade Fire (then I'll decide on the song).

Ahh, Iplayoboe, I Believe in a Thing Called Love is a GREAT song. Excellent choice.

Accepted: oh gosh--- ANYTHING.. probably the sound of my own tears! :)

Deferred: some led zeppelin would be nice.

Rejected: toccata in d minor or some other depressing classical music.

Leading up to the decision, I'll be listening to Lovefool by the Cardigans. Because it's appropriately full of yearning. ;) Dunno about afterwards, though.

Gavin Degraw - "Follow through" ---> GOOD DEPRESSSING SONG

and llamapajamas - I LOVE WICKED!!!!!

oops. I meant "This City" by Franz Ferdinand. The chorus is like "This fire is out of control. I'm gonna burn this city, burn this city..." another good rejectance song would be Orgy-"Blue Monday"

After much consideration, I've decided my deferal song will be 'Perhaps, Perhaps, Perhaps' by Cake.

"If you can't make your mind up, we'll never get started. And I don't want wind up being parted, broken-hearted. So if you love me, say yes, and if you don't dear, confess. But please don't tell me perhaps, perhaps, perhaps."

those are some nices... not with respect to getting deferred though. I just like the words. Lindsey you're going to be Yale's 1st senior member! (thought I might make someone laugh since everything has slowly gotten a bit tense.....)

REJECTED: tragedy: samuel barber - adagio for strings, consolation: john mayer - 3x5
DEFERRED: coldplay - don't panic
ACCEPTED: astonishment: ben kweller - falling, an ego explosion: allister - scratch, tears: israel kamakawiwo'ole (spelt without looking!) - somewhere over the rainbow/what a wonderful world

i highly recommend all these songs...

edit: i forgot to say. i love wicked! <3 idina menzel!!!

ooh I like Ben Kweller's "Falling" too. you guys have nice choices

Ambrosia, for acceptance, I'm definitely stealing Somewhere Over The Rainbow from you. That version is sooooo nice. And maybe Falling too, I love that song. I'll also add the Yale Fight Song (for obvious reasons), and Twist and Shout (because I'll be needing to dance).

Deferral: I think I'll go with Elliot Smith's Bled White. "It may not seem quite right. But I'm not ****ed, not quite."

Rejection: I think it's bad luck to be planning for this, so...

oh man, i was going to say wicked too! :) which i basically listen to all the time, so i guess it won't be too much of a change, but still...haha, i love the songs, llamapyjamas, you are cool, lol.

I think "i'm not that girl" can also apply to now, because i'm trying not to get my hopes up, but my theme song for waiting is definitely "the wizard and i" because its all about hopes for the future and finding a place where you really fit in and...it just speaks to me :) especially since i know i will probably be disappointed. and "I couldn't be happier" will definitely fit if i get in, even the sad part of the song, because i'm going to be depressed about all the homework i have to do, regardless of whether i get into yale or not. perhaps "no good deed goes unpunished" if i get rejected, jk! and graduation? definitely "for good" (i love that song)

hmmm...guess i've thought about this a little too much...well, its better than obsessing about what the decision is going to be...okay, i'm done now
