Official nd early action decisions!

Congrats to everyone that got in  I was really worried I’d be rejected because I only got a 30 on my ACT. Test scores was probably one of my biggest weaknesses, but thankfully they were able to see past that and recognize all my other achievements ^__^

D got her acceptance letter yesterday:

SAT I (breakdown):CR - 760; M - 720; W - 660 = 2140
ACT:35
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.98
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 15/164 (1-14 are all th3 4.0’s)
AP (place score in parenthesis): 3 taken, one 5 & 2 3’s
Senior Year Course Load: 4 AP classes, dense math & science
Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): National Merit Commended; National Latin Award; National History Day awards; other nice local/state stuff
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Class prez x 3; NHS prez, minor sports, lots of art & history competitions.
Job/Work Experience: None
Volunteer/Community service: Volunteers at hospital; lots of service required by school
Essays: Don’t know what you’re looking for here
Teacher Recommendation: Strong, from toughest science teachers
Counselor Rec: Yes, strong
Interview: No
Applied for Financial Aid?: Probably will, but not yet
Intended Major: Engineering
Idaho, US
School Type: Catholic
Ethnicity: Cauc
Gender: F
Income Bracket: Upper Middle Income
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None that I know of
Strengths: High ACT, well-rounded, good essays, great recs, maybe the NMS Commended
Weaknesses: Not a 4.0
Why you think you were accepted: Because of strengths listed above
Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Colorado School of Mines; haven’t heard from the others but applied at USC, Stanford, Gonzaga, Whitman

General: Just good luck to future applicants, and hope this profile helps. Other D didn’t get in, had similar everything but a bit lower PSAT SAT & ACT. But she’s loving where she did & doing so well. So, it’s great that this D got in, but it’s a crap shoot because so many equally great students apply, and not all get the nod.

for Notre Dame, WHat do u guys think will be the financial package for an African, <$20,000 income, applied EA, Questbridge Finalist. will i get a full ride?

Just a little insight, now that you are an accepted student - you are treated a lot better than before (a little perk) - I would call the financial aid office and ask nicely about the options, though I though ND would meet all of your demonstrated need that the government said you needed.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 2270 (800CR; 770W; 700M)
[] SAT II: US History (710); Literature (720)
[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 3.79

[] AP (place score in parenthesis): US History (5); Psychology (5); currently taking Statistics and Chinese
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP Statistics; AP Chinese; IB English HL; IB Film HL; IB Theatre HL; IB Environmental Systems and Societies SL

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): I dedicated myself to a few instead of being wishy-washy about dozens
[] Job/Work Experience: none :frowning: can’t have a job where I live
[] Volunteer/Community service: two Habitat for Humanity trips; weekly visits to an orphanage; taught at a migrant school
[] Summer Activities: did things before sophomore and senior years
[] Essays: were okay for ND… sort of rushed
[] Teacher Recommendation: didn’t read, but I chose teachers who I have good relationships with, so I would assume good.
[] Counselor Rec: I would assume good
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: nope
[] Intended Major: Film, Television, and Theatre
[] State (if domestic applicant): don’t live in the country

[] School Type: private/international

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): lived abroad since I was 7. don’t know if that counts.
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I go to a fairly well known school in the college world; my CommonApp essay is good; I’m slightly different than the generic white girl
[] Weaknesses: GPA is not super high; ND essays were rushed
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I showed passion throughout high school for certain things and pursued them instead of having a laundry list of ECs. I was consistent in showing my interest in those things. I was very genuine in my application.
[li] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: accepted at University of Michigan, have also applied to NYU, USC, Boston College, UCLA, UCSD, and I will be applying to Brown[/li][/ul]General Comments: Congrats to everyone who has been accepted, good luck to everyone who was deferred/is applying RD. For those of you rejected, I feel for you and know you’ll end up where you belong. This is sort of becoming a rant, but my advice for everyone in ALL their applications is to be real. The people I know who have written bs essays have not been accepted - genuineness is recognizable and likable.

General Comments: :D

I am a freshman at Notre Dame and all of these posts make me so excited for you guys!!! I remember getting my acceptance this time last year ( Dec 15 2008) and honestly you have no idea how much that little letter can change your guys lives. Come to ND. Welcome home!

I have a goofy question. I’m filling out the form for the admitted students page to gain access to the message boards etc. and it is asking for a “screen name” that other users will see. Are most people using some variation of their real name or creating a true-to-form screen name?

I went with my real name rather than a screen name a feel a little of out of place, I guess it depends on how much you value anonymity.
