[] ACT: Composite 34 Reading 34 English 35 (Essay 9) Math 34 Science 33

[] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
[] Weighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.4
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable):1st decile (I’d say 15th in a class of 603)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): Stats (4) World (4) APES (5) SpanLang (5) Lang/Comp (5) USH (5)
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP US Gov, AP Pysch, AP Calc AB, AP Lit, IB Physics SL, Student Government, MUN.
[li] Major Awards: AP Scholar with Distinction, some character awards
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars: MUN (Secretary General), Student Gov (ASB Treasurer), NHS (Vice President), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (Vice President), Breakfast Club (President - community service club that feeds the homeless in my area), Colors of the Middle East (Vice President - culture club that promotes racial tolerance), Newspaper (Freelance writer), various other clubs. No sports :stuck_out_tongue:
[] Job/Work Experience: Used to work for a charity auction company. I now am an unpaid intern for my local Assemblywoman.
[] Volunteer/Community service: Tons and tons and tons of hours at my school and in my community.
[] Summer Activities: Pre-College programs at Notre Dame and Duke, Orange County Leadership Camp at UCSB, summer internship, travel, and lots of volunteering.
[] Essays: Wrote my general essay on becoming self-aware while on vacation, chose Why ND (wrote about the day I discovered the school on Collegeboard), How will you impact the world? (wrote about wanting to join the Peace Corp and added in some details about ND’s Summer Service program), and Do something different prompts (wrote about Summer Scholars… but I wrote the whole essay in Spanish).
[] Teacher Recommendation: My teacher wrote two pages and went into specifics, I had a chance to read it and he wrote very passionately.
[] Counselor Rec: Know my counselor pretty well, my school requires us to write a lot of supplemental stuff so she probably wrote a good rec.
[] Additional Rec: Letter from my Assemblywoman

[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yeuuup
[] Intended Major: Political Science
[] State (if domestic applicant): CA
[] School Type: Large public school
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: A lot
[] Hooks: I am taking advanced Spanish classes at the local community college because I have ran out of classes to take at my high school? I also participated in their Summer Scholars Program.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: I think my application really showed my passion for Notre Dame and how diverse of an individual I am. I was the only kid that applied early from my school so that probably helped.
[] Weaknesses: My Spanish SAT II score but my 5 on the AP test and enrollment at the local community college probably offset that.
[li] Why you think you were accepted: I showed a genuine interest in the school and made sure my application + recommendations painted a clear picture of me as a student and future politician. [/li][/ul]General Comments:

Very excited about the possibility of going to Notre Dame. Love the school!

I GOT IN!!! Still hasn’t sunk in… I’ll post stats and info later! Can’t wait to meet

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:[/ul][*] What would you have done differently?:
[/li]

Other Factors:

General Comments & Advice: Don’t sell yourself short. If you’re interested in ND, go for it and do everything you can to build your application. So happy to have the opportunity to attend ND!

Pick one:
Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ list]
[li] SAT I superscore (breakdown M/CR/W/Essay): 2000
[/li]

[li] ACT superscore (breakdown): 33 (12 Writing) three times
[/li]

[li] SAT II (subject, score): didn’t send any: 600 Spanish, 700 Math 2, 730 Math 1, 520 Lit
[/li]

[li] Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0: with every AP/Honors Class possible, challenged myself to the max and worked incredibly hard for this success
[/li]

[li] Weighted GPA: 5.1
[/li]

[li] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 11/545
[/li]

[] Other Tests (AMC, AP, IB): AP: 5’s on every test (Gov, Econ, Lang, APEuro, Micro)
[] Number of other EA applicants in your school: 4-6 (fairly respected public school that usually sends 1 or 2 to ND a year)
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.): N/A
[] Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): AP Scholar, Scholar Athlete (4xs)
[ b]Subjective:**[ list]
[] Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): Key Club Pres, NHS Pres, Best Buddies, works with students with special needs weekly, Varsity Sports Captain
[] Job/Work Experience:

[li] Volunteer/Community Service: A TON, what separates me with everyone else who says a ton is that I truly believe that mine was genuine and that ND could see that. Even after I say that, I am still volunteering tomorrow and Tues, and next Sat, when I know that I could’ve taken it off. I know that probably sounds a bit pretentious of me, sorry, what I am just trying to say is just be humble and do what you love. Schools love passion. Whether your passion is helping dogs or building companies, it doesn’t matter. Do what makes you happy and things will come.
[/li]

[li] Summer Experience: Work at local Restaurant, Sports, Volunteer Work[/li]
[ b]Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):**[ list]

[] Common App Essay I spent twice as much time on these essays, over 7-8 rough drafts. If you think your done, think again. Revise again, its worth it.
[] Writing Supplement:

[] Teacher Rec (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details):
[] Counselor Rec:
[li] Other Rec:[/li]
[ b]Other**[ list]

[li] Date Submitted App: EA
[/li]

[li] U.S. State/Territory or Country: IL
[/li]

[li] School Type: Public
[/li]

[li] Ethnicity: White
[/li]

[li] Gender: Male
[/li]

[li] Income Bracket Range (Very optional): Middle Class
[/li]

[li] Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athlete, development): NONE, proud to say that I did it, wasn’t a legacy, a minority, anything that anyone wants. I was the kid nobody wants (well at least at a school like ND): white, middle income, and very average.
[/li]
[ b]Reflection**[ list]
[li] Strengths: my passion for everything
[/li]

[li] Weaknesses: no hooks
[/li]

[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:
[ *] What would you have done differently?: I think all of my efforts payed off. I am usually a pretty humble person, and absolutely abhor those people who think that they are going to Stanford or ND because they feel that they are entitled. People, these days, it is insane what admissions is like, and I am only doing this form to let you guys know (future applicants) that it is possible to work your ass off and get into a school like Notre Dame. Something will happen for you in the end if you give it all you got. Trust me.
[/li]

Other Factors:

General Comments & Advice: Don’t give up hope. The ACT can be beat: try the ACT Official Red Book (the one with 4 Practice Tests- and do them all). Your GPA and Class Rank are excellent helpers, but nothing stands out like passion for something. Be unique, everyone is, give it your all, and see how your chips play out. More importantly, DO NOT fall in love with one school, rather fall in love with many schools and let them decide for you. This is my advice. Once you get in, them feel free to go crazy for all of them.

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I superscore (breakdown M/CR/W/Essay): Did not send

[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel, etc.): Nothing impressive
[] Common Awards (AP Scholar, honor roll, NM things, etc.): AP scholar with distinction, probably some other stuff
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): Stem cell research, Cross Country (Captain), Relay for Life Club (Co-founder/VP), Relay for Life (Captain), Notre Dame Summer Scholars, Science Club (President), French exchange trip, track and badminton coach, ski instructor, Track and Field, Mission Trip
[] Job/Work Experience: Ski instructor, intern at a cancer research center
[] Volunteer/Community Service: 200 hours or so doing various things. I was committed t all activities and really cared about them.
[] Summer Experience: Notre Dame Summer Scholars, Business Week
[/ul]Writing (Subject, 1-10 rating, details):[ul]
[] Common App Essay: 9.5/10. It was about skiing with my dad and i demonstrated how I love to challenge myself with a narrative of skiing a hard run. I spent tons of time on it.
[] Writing Supplement:
Accomplishment one: 9/10. It was about me singing in front of a crowd of 500 people after being randomly chosen by a presenter. I also hate singing. It thought it was pretty good.
Falling in love with an academic concept: 9/10. I wrote about falling in love with biology and cancer research after an experience in class. I tied it to some other personal experiences that I don’t really want to get into but it was solid.
Why ND: 8.5/10. Wrote about my experience at Summer Scholars and some awesome things about ND that I experienced while there.
[] Teacher Rec (teacher’s subject, 1-10 rating, details): I kinda had two because I initially sent them the wrong one. The wrong one was 7/10 from APUSH teacher. Other one was 9/10 from AP Bio teacher. These are guesses. I didn’t read any of them.
[] Counselor Rec: 8/10. She really likes me.
[] Other Rec: From someone I’m doing research with. She said it was a phenomenal letter.
[/ul]Other[ul]
[] Date Submitted App: 10/21
[] U.S. State/Territory or Country: Washington
[] School Type: Top public school
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket Range (Very optional): lol
[] Hooks (URM, first generation, recruited athlete, development): None
[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Research, Summer scholars, ECs, maybe essays
[] Weaknesses: I thought they might not appreciate the stem cell research being a Catholic school, but I guess that was alright.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected:[/ul][*] What would you have done differently?: I spent a lot of time on my essays and am really passionate about a particular subject and my future. In addition to that my test scores and grades were good enough for ND.
[/li]

Other Factors:

General Comments & Advice: Spend a TON of time on essays because those can be a huge factor in how the committee perceives you as an applicant. Do what you enjoy, not what looks good for colleges. Honestly just be yourself and you will end up at the right place. Congrats to everyone else who was accepted! If you were rejected it wasn’t meant to be and I am sure you will end up at somewhere you love. If you were deferred I totally understand how you feel- I was deferred from my first choice school. But have confidence you will get in RD and update Notre Dame on anything you are doing. Even if you end up not getting in it will all work out. Don’t lose hope. I was deferred somewhere else but still got in here! Good luck everyone! I am beyond excited to have been accepted!

Other Factors:

**General Comments & Advice:**Put your best effort into your application. If you’re still young in highschool, focus on testing, school, and finding an Extra curricular you love. And this isn’t something I did, but asking around, a lot of people talk about the spiritual-ness of ND and how they enjoy it, so if that’s something you can do, make that an option!

[] Counselor Rec: Maybe a 7. I know her pretty well but she isn’t the best councilor
[] Other Rec: I got another math teacher who was an ACE teacher. I’m sure his was very good maybe even a 10

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (name, grade levels, leadership, description): Speech team, gymnastics, track, church choir, peer tutoring, orchestra. A few leadership things thrown in there, but nothing crazy.

[/ul]Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Test scores and grades, but I also think my essays were strong as well. Also, I’m a girl who wants to go into math, so that can’t have hurt.
[] Weaknesses: There was nothing crazy impressive on my resume, and I’m not a legacy, which I know is really important with ND. Basically, I didn’t go build houses in Somalia or cure cancer or anything. I’m exactly what colleges don’t want–an average, white, middle class girl from a public school.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: To be honest, I think it was my essays–they weren’t philosophical or deep or anything like that, but they were definitely “me.”
[/ul][li] What would you have done differently?: Not wait till the last minute to start my supplements, because that was stressful! A word to everyone: DON’T DO THAT!
[/li]

Other Factors: Good luck to everyone applying, and just know that you can be completely “ordinary” in almost every way and still be okay with college admissions, as long as you show them who you really are, even if it isn’t the perfect applicant we’re always hearing about.

Worked as a lifeguard full-time this summer and last
Attended Rotary Youth Leadership Conference summer after sophomore year and then returned summer after junior year (summer I was a rising senior) to help organize and be a group leader
Attended Adventures in Biotechnology the summer junior year. This was a program held by Biogen Idec, a biotechnology company in Boston. I learned a lot, but mostly that I do not want to major in biotechnology
[] Essays:
I put a TON of time into these.
Why ND? I wrote about travel abroad (I’ve done a Chinese exchange trip and like to try new things), and religion.
Try something new: Wrote about being a leader in my family with 6, lots of siblings to take care of etc
Can’t remember the specific question but I wrote about an experience that happened while lifeguarding
My Common app essay I also put a lot of time into, I wrote about making a decision to speak against a proposed bill in my town at a town meeting that most people expected me to support and why I did it, and what I learned from it. I had my GC, a college counselor, and my parents all look it over
[] Teacher Recommendation: Latin teacher of 3 years - she knew I loved Latin and was a very dedicated student although I could not fit it into my senior schedule, but I didn’t know her well personally. The other was my honors chemistry teacher from junior year - she knew me well and I worked and went in for help to get good grades in the class. Also I cried in front of her once and she helped me bounce back from a bad concussion last Spring so I think that helped because she could explain what happened in more detail
[] Counselor Rec: pretty generic, didn’t read
[] Additional Rec: My futsal coach/boss of 8 years I’d assume it was pretty good
[] Interview: N/A

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Legacy (dad). My great uncle used to teach there and like 50% of my dad’s family went there
[ b]Reflection** [] Strengths: Lots of leadership, essays, the fact that first quarter senior year I got all A’s in the hardest classes I’ve ever personally taken, probably important to bounce back after the dip junior year
[] Weaknesses: GPA, especially because of the dip.
[] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Nooo idea
[] Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: Accepted by University of Virginia, UMass Amherst Commonwealth Honors College with full ride, Waitlisted at Northwestern and WashU (didn’t interview at either so I wasn’t too hopeful)
General Comments: So excited! I already visited for admitted students weekend which was amazing  Have to decide between here and UVA, so I’ll visit UVA but as of now I’m leaning ND!
