i still dont know what linux is. but i always hear people talking about it.

what is it.

an operating system

i suggest getting a new windows o__o

It is an operating system.

^ A useless piece of #### operating system, mind you. They say Windows has problems but I never had mine crash on me for 95, 98 or XP…

yeah. im getting a new computer when i go to college, and this thing is going to the junkyard.

hopefully it will last that long.

so are you guys all staying up?

95 and 98 crashed all the time. It wasn’t till XP that I finally got some respect for windows.

man when r they gonna come out? is it even worth it staying up? maybe i should just get up extra early. andreaaaaaaa u should atleast get windows 98 or 2000, they are really cheap to buy nowdays. or betteryet, get a new pc for cheap or free on black friday

im a west coaster, so im stayin up until 12, and if they arent posted, im hittin the sack

west coaster here too (CA), im staying up till 1 or 2 max. Gotta study for an ap gov test so i might as well stay up lol

yeah but i am going to away to college in just a few months. so i guess i can wait.

i feel like its new years eve lol

Uh, wow gryffon, are you a bit of a Windows fanboy?

Geez, I’ll admit that I’m partial to windows, but Linux has made leaps and bounds over the past two years. If I had to, I could still do all of the stuff I do in Windows on it, with a bit of relearning. Two years ago? Linux was virtually unusable as a desktop OS for most users, virtually nothing wireless worked, and plug and play hardware was very iffy.

Linux is also fairly stable, and rock solid if properly setup.

For a machine running Win 95 (and you have the reinstall CD, just in case you want to go back), I’d try [Vector Linux](<a href=“Home - Vector Linux”>http://www.vectorlinux.com/). It ran fairly well on a 400MHZ Pentium 3 128MB IBM Thinkpad. (At one point, Windows XP was somehow installed on that  it must have been dog slow…it had 95 on it originally). It’s easy to use and very stable.

Yeah, buy a new computer. A Windows with a Q6600 Quad Core processor, 4G RAM, a GeForce 8800SLI Graphics card, 1.5 Terabyte Hard Disk space etc, etc. Your standard equpment.

Edit: Well, I can’t get a new one either. If I did, I’d get the above.

The fact is that I’ve never really used Linux. Too many years using Windows for the rest of your life really grows on you. (With the fact that I never had any trouble with it)

Vector Linux is pretty good, I’ve tried it before. It basically had all the apps you need to function on the computer. I’ve heard DSL (Damn Small Linux) is extremely small and is designed to work on older computers

Vector Linux Info: [DistroWatch.com: VectorLinux](<a href=“DistroWatch.com: VectorLinux”>DistroWatch.com: VectorLinux)

There is a reviews section there to so you might want to read some of them.

im in WA, i hope to be in cali next year though. It depends heavily on what i might find out within the next few hours, so nervous

Midnight here! Mountain Time. Still need to do my English essay on a nature observation…

Wow… the speed of the internet… It would have taken days by foot and horse to send messages across America back then.

Imagine Collegeboard getting our results back by Pony Express.

lol.

or pigeon carriers.

Or better through human messengers.

seriously, they could at least change the “scores available on Nov. 20” message on their homepage to something different. Last time I checked IT IS NOV. 20!!!
