OFFICIAL Ohio State Class of 2017 Decisions Thread!

Since OSU has rolling admissions, as soon as they are done evaluating your application the results are online I applied in October and heard back in three weeks.

The number of applications have skyrocketed thus far, demand is so high, yield is up = Difficult if not impossible for those who are wait-listed to get a spot this year.

Sparkeye7

Thanks for all of your posts. As the mom of an OOS freshman, I love seeing the articles and links you post about TOSU from local and national sources  Regarding your post above on applications being up, wait list chances etc., is that insider info, or have there been stories posted about the number of apps this year, anticipated yield etc.? If so, can you post some links, or PM me? I have a few friends with kids applying this year or looking to next year, so interested to see anything you have to share. Thanks again!

My S admission status says “applicant”. If I am not mistaken, it was previously “evaluation”. What do you think this means?

@Swimmermama mine says the same thing. I changed my major I was applying to from Aviation to Exercise Science. I called and they said because of the common app switch they do not have the time to change all to evaluation. Therefore, your sons application is still in evaluation but it just says applicant and will change from applicant to his admission desicion when released. As his application was being reviewed someone must have accidentally clicked something. They said that is what happened with mine and the person who actually changed it was who I spoke with.

@Nova88, The pleasure is mine! :)

Yes, I called up the admission office last week on behalf of my little cousin who’s international and would love to follow my foot step of becoming a Buckeye. I was told that there has been an overwhelming application increase (roughly 25% thus far) this year due to the “Common App” implementation.

Besides school’s fast rising in terms of academic reputation, OOS students simply recognize Ohio State as being the best value given that “National Buckeye Scholarship” was increased from $10,000 to $12,000 a year before. Moreover, so far as “yield” is concerned, that my projection as tOSU is destined to be playing in the BCS Bowl game if not National Championship Game next season. Everyone wants to be part of the history and Urban Meyer rocks!! Also, USNWR once estimated that an additional 5% application increased when University of Florida had an undefeated season and another 5% if the school moves into the Top-50 ranking.

Furthermore, with the recent tuition hike at the nearby Illinois and Penn State, tOSU has become THE destination for student who’s looking for the best combination of Academics + Athletics + Affordability, complete with vibrant urban living style - Columbus. And since you are located in New Jersey, tOSU has traditionally enrolled many east coast students and ever more so now that Big Ten Conference has expanded its footprint east ward by adding Rutgers and Maryland to its fold. In short, worry not (unless you are in-state), President Gee has recently stated that he would like to further increase the OOS student body from the current 24% to roughly 30% citing diversity. Best of Luck & Go Bucks!! :)

Thanks Sparkeye! All great news for the value of S’s diploma, Class of 2016!! He absolutely picked the best place for him and couldn’t imagine being anything but a Buckeye!
Thanks again for all of your posts. Good luck to your cousin as well!
Happy Holidays!

Does anybody have an idea of the approximate number of out of state scholarships they give out? I know the main one is the national buckeye scholarship and it’s given out on a “competitive basis” but how many do you really think that is?

A lot… Everyone I know who got in got that scholarship, and I go to a huge out of state school

Still waiting to hear back… I turned my app in 11/20/12 and my ACT is a 29 and gpa 3.8…I applied mechanical engineering any idea on when i should hear back or if im in the right range to get accepted. My extracurriculars were swimming and water polo

However, please be aware that these were data from 2 years back, and this is the 1st year of Common App at Ohio State = 25% applications increase = way more competitive in terms of admission, especially so for the incoming engineering students!!

And in terms of availability for Scholarships:

Best of Luck & Go Bucks!! :)

So happy about the scholarships, especially the National Buckeye, since I’m out of state. Wouldn’t be looking at Ohio State otherwise! It makes it cheaper than my in-state university, Penn State.

How did you find out about the National Buckeye scholarship? Son was accepted (we’re OOS) and has 32 ACT and 2030 SAT, so I think he qualifies.

I haven’t found out yet, but I’m fairly confident I’ll get it, as all my friends who got in last year received it, some with lower scores than mine. I don’t believe it’s very competitive.

I also called the admissions counselor and presented my stats; he said he thinks I’ll be fine for it.

Your son will probably be fine too (I have similar stats, a 31 ACT and a 2150 SAT)!

OK thanks. I thought we were missing something. Oldest son automatically got the scholarship, but that was a few years ago.

I sent my application in around the beginning of November. At my school about 4 out of 6 people get in… Are my chances still good with a 3.45 UW and 27 ACT? I take about 3 or 4 honors classes a year and had (passed) AP psychology last year as a junior.

Just curious, I know it is getting harder this year. Thanks.

By the way, I applied as a business major. Not something super hardcore like Biology or Chemistry

Has anyone gotten their Acceptance Fee info yet?

Accepted
