Decision: Accepted
Planned major: Biology, pre-med

Objective:
• SAT I (breakdown): 2070
• ACT: 32
• SAT II: n/a
• Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): 4.0
• Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): My school doesn’t rank, but I think that I am definitely in the top 10%
• AP (place score in parenthesis): English Language (4), Statistics (5), U.S. History (4)
• IB (place score in parenthesis): n/a
• Senior Year Course Load: AP U.S. Government and Politics, AP English Literature, AP Spanish Language, Robotics/AP Psychology, 2 religion courses (one semester each), AP Biology, and AP Calculus AB
• Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): Nothing really – just Honor Roll all four years

Subjective :
• Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Cross Country all 4 years, NHS, National Spanish Honors Society, Ohio Math League 2/4 years, minor involvement in Spanish Club all 4 years
• Job/Work Experience: none
• Volunteer/Community service: 12 hours each semester through NHS and NSHS, 10 hours in the summer for cross country
• Summer Activities: Cross country conditioning/community service (we helped run several triathlons this past summer to raise money for the special Olympics)
• Essays: On the extracurricular activity that you had to elaborate on, I wrote about my involvement in cross country-mainly about how I feel that it taught me patience and endurance. My main essay addressed prompt #1 about a significant experience and its impact on me – I talked about a field trip that I took this semester to an Islamic mosque and how it changed my views on the religion.
• Teacher Recommendation: Didn’t get one since you can get by with just the counselor one
• Counselor Rec: Nothing special, but it should be good. It’s also personalized since we have to fill out this long sheet about ourselves before they do this.
• Additional Rec: none
• Interview: none

Other
• State (if domestic applicant): Ohio
• Country (if international applicant):
• School Type: Relatively small private Catholic high school, around 750 students total, pretty competitive academically however
• Ethnicity: white
• Gender: male
• Income Bracket: around 150,000
• Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None

Reflection
• Strengths: Academically, I excel at memorization-focused classes like history and biology
• Weaknesses: I struggle a bit more with critical thinking-based classes like math, but I still like to think that I am good at these classes – they’re just not my strong suit.
• Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: An unweighted 4.0 GPA and a 32 ACT are pretty good
• Where else were you accepted/waitlisted/rejected: I’ve been accepted to OU, Miami, and Wright State. I still have yet to hear from UD.

General Comments: Scholarships – I received the Maximus ($5000 a year). Great value but I’ve received full tuition to Miami and OU. I’m holding out to see what kind of offer UD gives me. I’m thinking that I might do undergrad at one of the other schools I’ve applied to and then aim for medical school at OSU.

can you guys please post when you applied and when you were accepted?

I am the same account as “sammiejo” listed three above this (long story), but I applied December 3rd and was accepted December 27th.

thanks for your input.

I’d be lying to you if I told you that my ethnicity had no part to play in this but hey I’m not complaining. OSU has been my top choice since 10th grade and I really hope I come here. GO BUCKEYES!!!

Hey everyone…I looked online and I was accepted to the engineering school, however, I won’t be able to go unless I receive the National Buckeye Scholarship. I have yet to receive my letter in the mail, so I am wondering how do you find out/when do you find out if you are awarded?
