Hello, I guess I am a "lurker" or w/e, but I've been looking at this thread and has anyone else been accepted to the huntsman program? I checked the facebook group and it only has like 3 people who have just been accepted this year...

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Awesome
[] Optional Essay?(Y/N): Yes
[] Teacher Recs: I wrote one of them, and it was great. The other was really good
[] Counselor Rec: I wrote it, and my counselor said it was one of the best shes ever read.
[] Supplemental Rec(s)?: None
[] Hook (if any): FBLA National officer, two-year state officer, run four businesses, attended school in Germany complete standout in my school
[li] Interview?: None
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Southern New Jersey
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Caucasian
[] Gender: Male
[] Financial Aid?(Y/N): No
[] Legacy Yes/No: No
[] Recruited Yes/No: No
[] Important ECs: FBLA (national officer, two-year state officer), started a chapter of an anti-genocide organization at my school, four-year mock trial lead attorney, guest speaker for NJ Commission on Holocaust Education, etc.

[/ul]Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.):
I sent in a six page activity sheet (very nicely formatted) and I have around seventeen college credits. My school usually has a few IVYs every year, but this year weve had five rejections/deferrals so far. Skipped a level of German, had top averages for most classes in 9th and 10th grades, admitted to NJ Gov School (but didnt attend due to conflict w/ FBLA). Why Penn was kind of risky, but a professor at Penn who I sent it to loved it.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc:
Congrats to everybody who got in! Im 99% sure I was deferred because of my SAT scores. Everyone thought I was a sure candidate, but its Penn, so go figure.

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] School applied to: Huntsman (single-degree Wharton)
[] SAT Verbal: 680
[] SAT Math: 780
[] SAT Writing: 790 (12 essay)
[] SAT Total: 2250
[] SAT II: 800 MathII, 800 Korean w/ L, 750 Physics, 690 Literature
[] ACT: 34 (35 R, 35 E, 35 M, 32 S)
[] AP/IB taken/scores: Calc BC - 5, English Lang - 5, Phys B - 5, Spanish Lang - 3
[] GPA weighted: 4.0
[] GPA unweighted: 3.7
[li] Rank or % estimate: School doesn't calculate
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Common - interesting and very relevant but may have lacked a little depth; Why Penn - grabbing intro and conclusion with what pulls me into penn and my dreams in the middle (did justice to aspects of Huntsman and just Wharton); Huntsman Essay - very informative essay (probably my best work on app) with a connection to what I want to pursue in terms of research and studies at the program in respect to target language
[] Optional Essay?(Y/N): Y - about how I changed a company's television marketing strategy at my internship (strong emphasis on international business as it is an international company)
[] Teacher Recs: did not read any, but one of my teachers told me she had a good feeling about me getting in (so I assume it was very good); other teacher liked me a lot, but she is so lazy so I really cannot tell you.
[] Counselor Rec: should be good, we talked a lot and my school is famous for banging out insane counselor recommendations.
[] Supplemental Rec(s)?: Supervisor at internship; described my accomplishments and personality, my abilities in the international market, and how my work was referred to by NY Times, TechCrunch, and Engadget.
[] Hook (if any): None.
[li] Interview?: Went very well; I'm in touch with her and she said she finds my result surprising. But then again, she only has a subjective grasp about me.
[/li]

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: California
[] School Type: Private; ridiculously competitive
[] Ethnicity: Asian
[] Gender: M
[] Financial Aid?(Y/N): Nope
[] Legacy Yes/No: No
[] Recruited Yes/No: No
[] Important ECs: community service thing also dealing with international communities (very unique and long-term); student-run business executive; cultural club treasurer, volleyball, associate concertmaster of orchestra, out of school basketball (captain)

[/ul]Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.): I think my grades did me in, especially with a slight downward trend. Or perhaps lack of leadership? Then again, I was new as a sophomore from an international background, so it was a little difficult at first to really create a voice among kids who new each other since middle school.

A lot of my attention centered toward the business and international field, but now that I'm out of the running for the only business school I'm applying to... err... haha, but everything is okay.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Congratulations to everyone who got in. Deferrals - Just as good a chance as the other regular kids; you guys will pull through. Rejects - Penn is really only one school out of MANY.

Just a quick question though: is there anyone else out there who got rejected from both the dual-degree and single-degree choices in the same round? I'm only talking about the kids who asked to be considered for the single-degree choice in the early round, not the regular round.

this thread should be marked as important

^I'm sure a moderator will get around to it eventually. Gratz again to the accepted and sympathies for the deferred/rejected. Although, I think CC did pretty well with Penn overall!

This is just an update to my former post.

Decision: Accepted

[] GPA weighted: ~3.75
[] GPA unweighted: ~4.43
[li] Rank or % estimate: Top 5%
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: My Common App essay was fantastic; my English teacher kept a copy to show her future students and urged me to become an English major. My Why Penn and Professor essays showed that I had thoroughly researched the school and faculty.
[] Optional Essay?(Y/N): Yes. The 217th page of my autobiography quoted itself in a cycle (a bit hard to explain), but it displayed my willingness to take a risk.
[] Teacher Recs: I'm assuming very good.
[] Counselor Rec: Decent at least, but I'm not sure.
[] Supplemental Rec(s)?: N/A
[] Hook (if any): First generation college student
[li] Interview?: N/A
[/li]

[] Legacy Yes/No: No
[] Recruited Yes/No: No
[] Important ECs: President/founder (2 years) of NHS, Beta Club, Computer Club; Model United Nations (4 years); varsity tennis (2 years). I admittedly am not very strong here, at least in my opinion.

[/ul]Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.): I'm so fresh I make Febreeze look bad.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I can't wait to attend to Penn and hope to see you there!

We've had a few more acceptances since my last summary. I'll make another one later if anyone thinks its a helpful post for future Penn applicants.

[] GPA weighted: 3.96
[] GPA unweighted:4.51
[li] Rank or % estimate: this was probably what hurt me 94.7% out of +500
[/li]

[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Common app one was about breaking high school clique barriers but a bit storylike and not enough analysis i guess...Why penn- i thought it was my best- genuine and i related myself to penn...
[] Optional Essay?(Y/N):no
[] Teacher Recs: math teacher for 4 yrs-great but not the best. english- showed my personality.
[] Counselor Rec: prob the best- we got along very well
[] Supplemental Rec(s)?: 4 yr entreprenership program teach- decent

[] Financial Aid?(Y/N): Y
[] Legacy Yes/No: N
[] Recruited Yes/No: N
[] Important ECs: I really dont feel like listing everything but big ones were

VP of Key Club- i was really passionate bout it
4 yr acad. of entrep. program- screwd over my weighted GPA+ rank
DECA- awards in local state and nationals (ICDC)
Chief Marketing officer of school store

1 Mu Alpha Theta school- i guess its a south thing

unpaid marketing internship-summer/fall not too long
...etc

[/ul]*Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.): I thought I had a good combo of pretty decent SAT scores and leadership/personality but i guess not for Wharton. maybe i got screwd over cus i listed my trophies...my dads idea- i thought it was really obnoxious and i bet so did the adcom but w/e *

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Congrats to all of those who got into Penn. I felt I had a pretty decent shot..expected to be deferred or something and wasnt too surprised when I got rejected. but then after looking at who got in from CC, I felt that I got royally screwed over. Please understand I really am trying not to sound bitter but its hard (all those who were rejected would understand). Congrats again to the penn bound...

Subjective:
Essays: Definitely strengths. I am majoring in nursing and healthcare management, and I interviewed people who are in the field to do my joint program essay. My biography was creative and my personal essay about my mother had a raw intensity.
Optional Essay?(Y/N): Yeah. It was crazy and unconventional. I talked about my [future] divorce.
Teacher Recs: I read one. It was patterned after the one that got my friend into Princeton last year. The other teacher thought I was a genius [I'm not, ha].
Counselor Rec: I have a close relationship with my counselor, so she really helped me out.
Supplemental Rec(s)?: None
Hook (if any): Not really any
Interview?: It was a friendly conversation between the nursing director and me. We have been communicating for a while so it was not awkward.
Location/Person:
State or Country: Alabama! Yes, we can read and wear shoes!
School Type: Public

Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.): My application was risky, which turned out to be a strength in the end. I talked about political identification, my antagonistic relationship with my mother, etc.

Looking at all the strong resumes on this site, I could have done much more during my high school years. I remember reading about this unreal candidate on CC that made me look like an imbecile. I agonized for days afterwards.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: I am still in shock right now. Sometimes I would login to the website again to make sure I read right. My condolences to those deferred/rejected. I read your stats and you had every reason to be there as I do. In this case the inherent injustice of life was in my favor... I'm sorry. But hey, this means you get to apply to the other Ivies out there. Maybe you'll land something even more compatible than Penn!

And to my future classmates, see you at Penn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[/ul]Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.):

[/ul]Other Factors (weaknesses, strengths, etc.): What I really think got me in, was that everything on my application connected. There was no real "brag list" of things... It was just a list of my accomplishments that all just make perfect sense when you look at what I applied for. I made a really good case for myself, and apparently they listened. :)
