Official Princeton Rd Decisions

Decision: Waitlisted

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 770v, 730m
[] SAT IIs: 800 U.S. History, 760 IC, 720IIC, 760 Writing
[] GPA: 4.0 UW, 5.0 W
[] Rank: 1/312
[] Other stats: National merit winner
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: My long one was the short of the one I wrote for Stanford, my shorts were on History Day and starting a student newspaper
[] Teacher Recs: two were serious and worship-ful, one was funny (so they say, plus my mother who accidentally read one)
[] Counselor Rec: vague
[] Hook (if any): southern small town; first-gen as much as I HATE people calling me that (i.e. snobby interviewer)
[/ul][ b]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: NC
[] School Type: public
[] Ethnicity: extremely pale
[] Gender: female
[] major strength/weakness: National History Day national winner (7th), NFL team founder and winner at district this year as a novice orator (Princeton didn't know that), yearbook (nationally recognized), took summer courses at Duke, interned at local paper; weaknesses - I just didn't do anything of stand-out quality. But more importantly, I had a TERRIBLE interview. I felt nervous and uncomfortable. After it, I decided not to go to Princeton no matter what.
[li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I wasn't surprised. It was exactly what I expected. I just didn't seem to be a good enough fit, but I wasn't bad.[/li][/ul]
Other Factors:** Accepted Stanford EA, Duke merit scholarship finalist - Princeton can live without me

Lindsey, you're batting 1000 now. Great job!

Zuma - I really don't know what to do now. Help!!

Now that you're in the driver's seat, life's a bit more complicated, isn't it? Do you have time to visit (re-visit) all three? You need to get the right vibes. They're all great schools. The money, with a bit of haggling, should be net-net equal at HYP. It boils down to the institutional climate and your interests.

Decision =

a.....

very

thin

envelope.

i*

Well, look at the bright side -- at least they spared me the effort of sending back a waitlist reply card. =)

and atleast u got into ur Safety school(Harvard :p)

Yes, lol. Harvard might even turn out to be a better match for me, even if Princeton was the longtime favorite.

My mom (who called me a few minutes ago to tell me) was surprised that I wasn't disappointed - my reponse was more like relief, since I knew I should probably go with Harvard (explained more fully on xanga) but would have found it nearly impossible to turn Princeton down.

OOPS!

Decision: Rejected
SAT: 1470
SAT IIs: 750, 710, 700
GPA: 3.84 UW
Unranked
Other Academics: NMF and some other minor achievements.

Essays: At least a couple were decent. One was kinda sketchy.
Recs: Two excellent ones, another one was kind of shaky
Counselor: Probably good.
Hook: I moved to US from Russia 6 years ago and have been very active in the Russian community of metro Detroit during those years. I'm certified in web design and have generated a very nice portfolio over the years, which I included in my resume. Hmm... I've also done martial arts my whole life.

State: Michigan
School: Public
Ethnicity: White
Strength: See "hook"
Why rejected/accepted/deferred: Just not good enough in general.

Other: Waitlisted at Amherst... THERE IS STILL HOPE!!! :-)

Kebree,I hope this doesnt sound rude or offensive, but I find myself extremely lucky to be waitlisted at a school which rejected super applicants like you

Rejected... looks like the two Kats continue to be way too much alike. You can find my stats on the ED thread, although there will be none of the whiny "me? deferred? whhhhy?" garbage this time around. ;) I am already planning where I'm going to take my sophomore off-term at Dartmouth and salivating at the prospect of skiing away my winters!

**We are all going to stay in touch/b.

Much love to everyone and good luck to those still waiting!
-Kat

Not offensive at all, and thanks. =)

Considering my experiences with a) my GC and b) my ASC, it was a miracle I even got deferred last December, lol.

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 790v 730m
[] SAT IIs: 780 US History/760 Math 2C/760 Chemistry/740 Writing
[] GPA: 3.97
[] Rank: 7/689
[] Other stats: National Merit Scholar, several leadership positions in clubs, etc.
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: I liked them a lot
[] Teacher Recs: Idk, I didnt read them
[] Counselor Rec: see above
[] Hook (if any): I was hoping for a bit of a bonus from being an EDer, being from AZ, and for applying to engineering
[/ul]Location/Person:[list]
[] State or Country: Arizona
[] School Type: Public
[] Ethnicity: Asian Indian
[] Gender: male
[] major strength/weakness: tough course load, only 1 B in high school (freshman bio), high test scores (if not perfect). I am heavily involved in several clubs. However, I wouldnt say that I have a ton of ECs- no varsity sports (only JV), no research, no major awards, etc.
[li] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Basically, I'm an average smart guy- nothing stands out.
[/li]

So I guess the 6 month rollercoaster ride is finally over...at least we had some good times. The difficult part is deciding between Northwestern and Penn now (I like Penn a lot more, but NW is better for pure engineering)...

Good luck at Harvard, kat! I'm sure you'll be happy there!

If I chose Philly over Chicago, then I'll visit Princeton once in a while to visit you acceptees (phil, shrek, zante, hobbes, and everyone else who's going). Legend, maybe I'll see ya next year :)

Okay, so I really don't want to spend lots of time writing all this stuff like everyone else has, so I'll just write a little:

Waitlisted

I actually don't care because I had decided to stay in-state anyway (I'm from MN) and wouldn't have gone had I been accepted. I didn't really put too much time into the whole application process, so I'm sure that didn't help, and I'm sure higher scores would have helped too (690V, 780M; 750 Writing, 750 Math I, 650 Chemistry), as I only took the SAT I and SAT IIs once each.
And, of course, it would have helped to be a minority, but that is one thing that I couldn't have helped!!!

Thanks, silmon - and sorry about Princeton. Good luck with your decision, though!
