We were notified of being finalists around 5pm…so we’ll probably be notified of college match results around then.

Oh, wait, guys, there’s a more active conversation on the actual College Match thread just below ours in the forum. They think 3pm EST for notifications… A little over two hours… I can’t wait!

I just posted this to the other thread. I’m really looking for some information to help my student, so I hope you don’t mind me posting here, too…

Has anyone received emails from schools encouraging them to apply ED? I am a college advisor at a public high school. One of my students (who was not matched), has received two emails from schools she ranked encouraging her to apply ED. Are these just standard emails they send to all the QB students that ranked their school? Or is this email more than that? I’m hoping the schools are trying to tell her she will be accepted, but my gut is telling me that they are just standard “form” responses.

Hi ktwofish,

I got an email from a college saying to apply early decision, but this was about a week before the actual release of the match decision. maybe it is a good thing, or it could be a standard response like you said. I was talking with another member, and she said depending on how it is worded, it could be a good sign. I would say tell your student to apply, but have a plan B!

Thank you, moxi367, for your response! The student received 3 emails right away. One looks very “personal” and could be a good sign! The other two appear to be standard emails sent to everyone. The student received a few more emails today from non ranked schools, and they are obviously emails sent to everyone.

I answered on the other thread, but I’ll answer here as well. The best thing is to go to the Facebook group and ask the group. For example, it appears that everyone has received an e-mail from Northwestern. Quite a few have received something from Amherst. This seems to be the only way to figure out if it is indeed a “likely” offer. (And every year there are actual likely offers, those people are accepted ED)

Thank you! I have two students who are finalists. Neither one matched, but they both received a few of the same emails. When the email is coming from a non-ranked school, it is obvious it is a “mass” email to QB finalists. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing.

Are they any nonmatched people who ranked Columbia? I received an email that seemed kind of personal that asked me to apply ED. Is this just another generic email or could it be a good sign?

Neither one of the students I am working with ranked Columbia, and they did not get emails from them. I hope someone will respond to your question!

Anyone heard anything about Stanford?!!!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!? what the match stats were and what they are sending out?!

I noticed on the list some colleges aren’t mentioned, why is that?

My student who was not matched but received an email encouraging them to apply ED to Williams, was just accepted! Woo Hoo! I hope others were just as lucky!

My son also wasn’t matched - but recieved three ED emails from Williams, Vassar and Haverford (he had ranked all three) and a generic from Amherst- chose to apply ED to Haverford - reasoning if not accepted he still had time to go ED2@ Vassar and felt his chances were better @ Haverford over Williams b/c of fencing team --turns out he was right! The wait is over! So happy for him!

Congratulations, Fencersmom! I’m a public high school college advisor, and it is so exciting to hear about your son’s acceptance. Congrats to him, too ;-)

Sorry to disrupt a year-old thread, but were any of you notified of your Finalist status before the deadline?
And do you know anyone with a decent amount of assets who got into the program?

For many QB partner colleges there is a cap on assets as a percentage of income. So like Amherst doesn’t consider assets more than 2.5 times income or something like that (the number isn’t exact but probably close). You can check this with individual colleges. Top LACs will be better than Universities for this with possible exception of HYP. No nobody is notified early, why would they be? You can check the income levels of matched students on the QB website. 95% of students who were matched had family incomes 60K or less, but that doesn’t mean you won’t be accepted during RD if your finances are above the averages. The vast majority of applicants are accepted ED II and RD.

@nynightowl. Thanks for answering my question. I was just hoping that they would send out notifications right when they make decisions.
