yes i agree with theonlyone. i hope the curve is like kaplan's or barron's. i completely messed up though. barely studied.

i'm sure the karyotype question was 24, 24, 25

cause we just learned that in class last week ;)

human somatic cells have 22 autosomes + 1 pair of sex chromosomes

what did you guys put for the penecillin question, was it protozoa?

is this thread dead already?
c'mon post some answers people
please

but dont gamates have half of the normal amount of chromoses? So how could they both have 24?

penicillin is isolated from fungus

malaria is caused by protozoa

(those 2 owned me, there goes my 800 GG)

"but dont gamates have half of the normal amount of chromoses? So how could they both have 24?"

what? the original karyotype is 24 chromosomes each (as in 48 chromatids), so gametes have 24 chromosomes aka 24 chromatids.

"penicillin is isolated from fungus"

OMG *** i swear fleming got it from mold... isn't mold a protazoan?

AHH **** i was thinking slime mold = protozoa....

gametes do have half the chromosome number because they are haploid. for that problem, the haploid number was 24. but i thought there was also a question asking about the amount in a normal cell (diploid) which would be 48.

Wow, this test totally massacred me along with Math 2C and World History. I guess I should have studied or at least taken the tests last year and the year prior while I was actually taking the classes. So who took Bio M and who took Bio E? I took Bio E because I was just slacking today, and I didn't think it was too painful (at least the last few weren't). Does anybody remember how they did on that snake chart (it may have been on the E part, I can't exactly recall right now).

i thought penecillin was from bacteria, no?

I also thought so...

This test was waaay better than the October exam...at least I knew what was going on =_= the only catch was that I missed quite a few questions because the examinor called time when I just finished the last question (couldn't go back to the previous questions that I skipped)

piaulxing: im pretty sure tht fr the hormone containing iodine, it was thyroid

penicillin is from mold which is kindgom fungi.

"Penicillin was originally isolated from the Penicillium chrysogenum (formerly Penicillium notatum) mold. The antibiotic effect was originally discovered by a young French medical student Ernest Duchesne studying Penicillium glaucum in 1896, but his discovery was ignored by the Institut Pasteur.

It was serendipitously rediscovered in 1928 by Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming, who noticed a halo of inhibition of bacterial growth around a contaminant blue-green mold on a Staphylococcus culture. Fleming concluded that the mold was releasing a substance that was inhibiting bacterial growth. He grew a pure culture and discovered that the fungus was Penicillium notatum he later named the bacterial inhibiting substance penicillin after the Penicillium notatum that released it."
