There seem to be a small amount of us lurking on here and the number keeps growing so I thought we should band together. Last year the SCA applicants made a list of everyone applying so that they could keep up with status changes more easily.

In case anyone is confused about statuses, these are the ones that people have had:

"Your application is being reviewed by the admission committee. We will mail notification of their decision by April 1. If for some reason you don't receive our written notice, we will be happy to provide the results over the phone beginning April 11th." (first)

"Your application has been forwarded for committee review." (second)

I suppose I'll start off. If you repost, copy the entire list and add your username!

Hey, SCA hopefuls! Great idea for a thread. I bet we’ll all be pretty relieved if none of the SCA applicants have received a status update yet!

I plan to major in animation, but I was also planning on going undecided and building a better portfolio. I’ve never done animation before but I totally love it. Plus, graphic design is a hobby of mine. I just never had a professional standpoint for it.
Anyway, I intend on being an Animation major, but for the moment I only applied to CLAS as Undecided.

Hey guys, I’ve been wondering. Have you heard back from the school itself confirming they’ve received your portfolio etc.? I haven’t gotten so much as a “thank you for applying” email from the SCA itself (got them from USC). Should I phone in and make sure everything’s in order, or…?

I also got a letter from USC but nothing from SCA. I was actually really worried but my friend who currently goes to SCA said that if they saw that you applied for it and didn’t have any supplemental materials, they’d contact you to see what happened.

Ahh, it’s so nice to see this thread. I am SO anxious about SCA - I can’ t wait until April! As I check my application status incessantly, I can confidently say that I received my second status update today (Jan. 27).

I don’t have that status display on the website yet (I wish!), but I did receive an e-mail from DHL about a package being sent from USC. I do live out of the country (though I’m American), so I HOPE this means something! Ahh, nervous.

I scanned last year’s thread but couldn’t tell. Do sca applicants ever hear back early? I think the candidates for merit aid were notified yesterday. Also, can you be rejected by the SCA but accepted by USC? My son did select a separate major as a second choice.

waitinginca, ^^ Yes, the SCA candidates for Trustee and Presidential scholarships are notified about their admissions in these early waves, too. They are invited to attend Explore USC sessions and must interview with their department. In the past, there has been a second wave of letters to merit candidates about a week after the first mailing so everyone may still get great news.

Those who do not get admitted to SCA may still be accepted to USC in a second major. If it is a separate school–like Viterbi or Thornton, those department’s admissions officers will make independent decisions. If it’s CLAS, the general adcoms will decide. If an applicant doesn’t list a second major, they may still be admitted to CLAS as Undeclared. Those who matriculate are free toi minor in Film, or, if they are driven and do well in their classes, they may try to transfer into an SCA major once here–although there are very few openings, so the last option is not a certainty.

We met a Trustee interviewee who listed her double major as Theatre and SCA Critical Studies, and she was being interviewed only by the SCA committee for merit consideration. So I guess in each of the majors one applies to, an application may catch their eye and stand out.

Thank you so much madbean, that was really helpful! My s keeps reminding me that the primary goal here is to get in. After that, a scholarship is just icing on the cake!!

Bump. Has no one heard about scholarships? I’ve been accepted to USC, but no scholarship news. That’s rather odd, as I’ve looked at some of the stats of the SCA applicants and they’re pretty high… Perhaps SCA will release it’s scholarship nominees later?

Nope, I wish. I got accepted into USC, but currently as Undeclared as SCA hasn’t finished it’s review yet. I had just read that there are a number of Trustee/Presidential scholarships offered for the specific schools, so I was wondering if any people who had applied to SCA had heard about scholarships.
