Official Smith College Class of 2021

ACCEPTEDDDDD!!!

rejected.

if you can only see the admissions decision and not the financial aid messages on Smith’s portal, try logging out of BannerWeb and then logging back in. Some additional tabs should then show up on the screen.

Waitlisted.

waitlisted  does anyone know stats of getting off the waitlist ?

stats from the last few years from their CDS. it is NOT LIKELY to be admitted off the WL, so pick another school that admitted you, and get excited about them. Later Smith might come around and you can decide if you want to show them the love at that point. WL is a mechanism schools use to manage yield and enrollment numbers, nothing else. Good for the school, not so much for the student.

Rejected but I got into USC

I received notice of Smith’s intent to admit me back in February. All the same, I’m so excited to have been admitted today. Question: where do I access my financial aid decision??

Are any of you going to open campus? I registered to go but now, looking at plane ticket prices, I’m doubting my ability to go. Transportation would go over $600 and I don’t have that much money to spend on such a short trip.

Open Campus is happening April 20th-21st. You can register to go on their admitted students website.

My D can’t go to the official accepted student event due to a conflict, so my husband is driving her there this week (her spring break) for an overnight and class visit to both Smith and Mount Holyoke. You are right about the expensive flights–they are going to drive 14 hrs each way from Chicago.

I generally purchase all the flights for a semester at roughly the same time, no later than early Oct for T day and winter break. That keeps the costs down. Southwest flies to BDL too and I factor in their 2 bags for free.

Only thing left is convincing my parents to let me go to Smith. They’re reluctant even with the stellar financial aid package. I’m a first generation college student and they don’t see much of a difference between community college, my local large public university, and Smith.

@Marin89 I will have to dig through the internet to find the link to the data to back up this: as a first generation student, Smith is actually your best bet for completing college. Generally first generation students that start at community college have a 16% rate of completion of a 4 year degree.

When my kid enrolled there was a special reorientation for a subset of students and I think first gen was included. Call the admission office and see if you are included on the list and if not how you can be. It is a good way to become familiar with the campus and bond with a cohort of similar students (another factor for college success.) Smith’s faculty is very approachable and seem to value time talking with students in their offices. I think you are less likely to fall through the cracks there rather than at a big university.

I work with a local group that counsels low income or first generation students who want to to go to college. Would you like me to send you via personal message the 2 sided handout that we developed for successful college engagement? It may be useful for you.

You’re correct that there’s a first-generation orientation group.
Many years ago, Smith made a conscious effort to recruit first-generation students and subsequently offer significant support and resources to ensure academic success.
