Official ubc class of 2014 thread :)

you don’t have any as in you don’t have the option to do them? i’m confused. maybe it’s different because you’re a transfer? either way yeah, it’s probably better to have something than nothing as a second choice but i’m curious as to why they changed it for my friend and why they couldn’t for you…could be a transfer thing, could be because the deadline is passed, who knows! but either way yeah, there’s always switching majors!

and the having to send your transcript twice thing must be a common problem, because i emailed the international recruitment lady and she told me to have my counselor send my grades again. then she said i’d know if i’m in or out in TWO WEEKS. (!!!)

yeah they said the deadline passed, and im a weird transfer cause i only did 2 months at ucla! i didnt even finish due to financial issues…im starting to wish i never even included ucla, my application would be complete right now…but
what are the supplemental applications like?? are they like essays?

Yeah, the supplements are like short essays. Most are less than 250 words. They’re pretty basic like, “what qualities do you posses to succeed in this faculty?” pretty much. They’re all optional though so it’s probably no big that you don’t have them.

And thanks for the links starbright! :)

i sorta wish i could do supplements, cause im really good at essays, there what helped me get into ucla…information session tmw though, they actually said if your status isnt complete that you can bring stuff and that theyd personally deliver it.

Yeah, they told me that too about bringing things to deliver, but my college counselor is on vacation right now. ): stoked on the info session though! Mines in like three hours. :)

and about the essays thing… To be honest I dunno how closely ubc even looks at them, the school is huge! You’re probably fine.

Annnnd I take that back. At the info session I went to, the guy said that if you don’t meet the grades cut off, (which for arts is an 86%, not sure about the other faculties) then they look at your supplements and decide from your qualitative characteristics whether or not you get in.

im calling them first thing tomorrow, i talked to the counselor about my situation, being more of a hs graduate than a college transfer, that i should call and get them to put supplemental, its gonna suck cause there due march 15th…thatd give me like half a day…

well, if it makes you feel any better i did mine in about half a day! i mean, i was churning out college essays on a daily basis so i was on a roll but the questions really aren’t too difficult. :)

ooh i checked the website and for faculty of science its due in june…only commerce and a couple few are march 15, woot! k how was your information session, mine was a little long but informative because a socal student described her experience, now ill die if i dont get in.

oh yay! haha mine went well! it was about half as full as the one i went to for asu, but definitely more informative. i really liked how they split us up by #1 choice of faculty and let us ask questions to the admissions people in those faculties. it was also great to hear about the student experiences, i was especially happy that the girl repping ubc-v at mine talked about the arts one program, which is something that i would really want to do if i get in. basically it was really informative, though a little boring when they were talking about things that i already knew, but overall, it was a really great presentation and i was happy i went and it made me even MORE stoked to go! i didn’t even realize that i could love this school any more than i have for the past year but i do!

it’s just such an amazing place with so many opportunities that aren’t available at other schools of this caliber!

deniedd from waterloo…this is a shock, its one of the schools i forgot i applied to, one of my safety’s…now i feel screwed. cannot wait to call ubc and get them to make a few changes to my app, like removing ucla that i hardly attended and marking me as simply a hs graduate, gosh im only 17. thing is i decided to check up on all the other schools i applied and saw the rejection on the website thats been up apparently for over a week, they didnt even email update me or send a letter.

anyone other rejections from canada/us schools…man my first rejection well this time around…not that i cared for it, but still.
stats: 4.1

ehhh i could always appeal? idk…just hoping on ubc, praying, all hell will break loose if i dont get into ubc,…all hell:[

& nvm…talked to ubc people, and its march 15 for everyone, i better stay on my grind today, they said theyll call me back so its added on my app. fingers crossed that they do that quickly so i have time today…

Sorry about Waterloo dude! Hopefully UBC will work out though! My application status just changed today, to something like “your application is ready for evaluation and you will be notified in writing when a descision has been made”. I’m so nervous! Ahhh for everyone on this board who’s got in, did your status ever say that???

ooohh lucky, holden, you literally will now find out within 2-3 weeks now that its ready. i just realized a HUGE mistake on my app…i applied to the bachelor of science in applied biology, not biology. i figured they were the same. WRONG, applied bio is in the faculty of land and food…so like vet-like stuff…which explains the no supplement thing, , this is a direction i dont want to go, does anyone know how difficult it is to get out of your major/program asap after admittance that is if i do?

Well, first of all I’ve heard that land and food systems is a little easier to get into, so that’s good, but because it’s all just the bachaelor of science faculty wouldn’t it just be as simple as switching majors than faculties? It’s not like commerce to engineering or anything, so that’s good at least! Also when I visited and said I was interested in psychology, the admissions counsellor that I talked to said it wouldn’t be hard to switch between the psych ba and psych bsc… I’m going to assume that the situation is similar for bio?

good luck you two! if only ubc knew how passionate yall are about their school

holden! you should hear back really soon… after my status changed, i found out 5 days later. good luck! and just keep checking the ssc nonstop!

five days?! as in, possibly FRIDAY?! ahhh i’m gonna die! if i don’t get in…i’m going to do a formal appeal. and in addition to my plea letter you know what i’ll do? link them to this thread and be like, “i love this school more than i love my cats! and i reeeally love my cats!”. and if all else fails…i’ll just have to go to arizona state, get straight a’s, and transfer out. but i’d really rather just get in from the jump! i’m gonna be checking my status like five times a day now haha!

wow, i think what really takes long is them just getting stuff, i think what happened is when i ordered ucla to send a transcript, i forgot to include UBC on the top of the address, thats what the registrar said…well thats a fail. i think i should know by end of April, right around my birthday…should be interesting  but ya the documents takes up like 95% of time, and decision like 5%
